Playing poorly is acceptable and I am not being sarcastic. 

 

If you are in a DD and you ignore your allies' position, push into the caps alone, run into the enemies, and eventually get yourself killed at the beginning of the match, I am OK with that. If you sails a BB and you miss 90% of your shells, do less than 10k dmg in every match, I don't blame you. If you are a CA and you show broadside to the enemies all the time and accidentally torp your allies, or you are in a CV and you don't know it is important to spot the enemy DDs for your team, I don't blame you neither.

 

I consider these behaviors to be acceptable, because no one is born to be a good player. People need time to learn and to practice, and eventually they will become better. I am OK with someone in the team playing poorly, even in high tier matches, as long as they are not intentionally doing so. I used to be very upset when people play poorly in the team, but then I realized that being upset and cursing your allies won't change anything. If you see someone plays poorly, don't blame him yet, just give him some tips/advice and see how it goes (I know this is very hard to do, but just give it a try. Currently I can control myself not to blame the teammate who plays poorly in 50% of the games. My next goal is 60%). Sometimes people will listen and learn form your experience, so next time you meet him, he might be a way better player. You can also learn from other people's experience. Win win situation. 

 

However, MISBEHAVE IN CHAT IS NOT ACCEPTABLE AT ALL.

 

I just can not bear it when people swear in the chat and blame other people when they are the one who did something extremely stupid and should be blamed. Someone did something stupid and got himself killed, being completely useless to the team, and after that he blamed and sweated at you, while you had to clean up his crapand carried the game. I am so pissed off when this happens. How can a person be that brainless and shameless? And why there is no punishment for for misbehaving in chat?! Sometimes I even want to TK these kind of people but I just care too much about my win rate so I have to let them go. This is the worst experience in this game. 

 

I still remember clearly that match, I was in my yamato and our gearing push into the caps and was killed at the beginning of the game. He was very upset in chat and I totally understood him. But then he started to blame me, which was a little bit surprising to me because normally DDs tend to blame their CV or CAs right? But I was still fine with it. He was frustrating because he got killed, I knew that. However, he just kept going and going, blaming and blaming and swearing. I was completely confused when he called me "camper", "coward", "hid behind island", "not covering me", because I was at the first line, heavily focused by the enemy and had 50% of my HP gone already. What did he expect me to do? Push into the caps and smoke for him? I just could not understand why people has to be that brainless and salty. In that match I used all my heals and did around 240k dmg. We won, but that was a very bad experience for me because he just kept swearing and swearing in the whole game. Well, his did show off his creativity in swearing. Creativity is a good thing.

 

To sum up, 

Don't know how to play the game? No problem at all. Just take some time to learn, and you will be a great player and have lot of fun. But just don't misbehave in chat, it won't help anything. 

 

And WG please, if there is no consequence then the reporting system is useless. Please make the reporting system work, thanks a lot. Poi!

The reporting system will hand out chat bans. If someone misbehaves regularly he will be banned from chat regularly.

 

For those cases where the chat misbehavior goes beyond the usual insults, I started to report them to support. In one case I got confirmation that the user in question has been punished with a ban (the username was obscene and offensive towards new players, as was the chat behavior). They did not tell me how long that ban would be, but that they did it at all shows to me that those extreme cases are not ignored by support. All other reports were copy and paste replies, but all containing the message that they'll do something.

Report system sadly gets massively abused and exploited by kids who just report everyone for chat missbehaviour. I basically get a report every time i snipe an enemy carrier, every time i sink a BB in one plane run, every time i torp a DD sitting still in his smoke, and so on ..  I get chat banned twice a week ..

Misbehavior is never acceptable, it's just that 'criticism' is not misbehavior in online team based multiplayer gaming. People should accept criticism is they do stupid things, but they never do they always claim: toxic chat omg wth WG ban plox QQ. 

 

Then again: criticism is not: you [censored] [censored] why the [censored] did you [censored] do something so [censored] [censored] you're such an [censored] [censored] [censored]. 

 

Criticism I feel people should accept at face value ( imho ) goes more like: Tirpitz, you got turtleback armor and this is a domination match, we got no caps, half the team is dead and you're at full HP sniping from A9. Maybe if you moved up closer to the caps you would have drawn some fire and that would have meant more people from our team would be alive. We might even have had a cap zone or two. 

 

Sadly, this criticism is usually met with: stfu noob l2p.

I have to disagree. At any point half the player base will be below average because no other result is mathematically possible. A small percentage of people are just awful but I'm sure they are doing their best & they are just as likely to be on the enemy team as mine so I've got no problem with that; they should be just as free to play the game as the best out there.

 

I'm with the OP here, the people who spend the entire game ranting & raving are incredibly disruptive and add nothing to the experience.

You are literally effecting your team negatively if you play badly, while if you write something bad in chat it's just words on the internet.

 

The exception are of course playing badly at low tiers, which is okay and personal attacks in chat going beyond the scope of the game, which isn't.

Criticism is good, without it no one would learn anything. 

 

Flaming is bad, no one learns anything from it ( except some curse words in foreign languages ). 

 

As I said before, it's this distinction which is not really working in this community. Many of the people complaining about 'toxic chat' are just not accepting their playstyle warrants criticism.

Exactly, playing badly imposes a negative externality on all those who want to win the game (it drags them down), and winning is the primary objective of this pastime.

Does that means ignoring someones plan? if i spawn near A in DD i at least take a look into A or trying to deny it for the enemy before makng a retreat. If  im the only DD in the Team and i spawn near A and someone sugests B+C its their fault not mone if they run  into enemy DDs at that caps without me. Tailor your aproch to what you Team does not what someone sugest in Chat.....ist random no teambattles and most of the time the one sugestiong just wants to make his game as easy for him as posible,

​Exactly if im in a BB i look at were the DDs are heading and stick behind them. Less chances to get unspoted Torps there and on the plus sides enemy CA will get away from there if they see a BB so my DDs have it easyer. Point is ist MY resoponcibility to react to such Things. If the Team has only 1 DD ist the Teams responcibility to suport him within Limit. ordering People around usally wont get you anything. making a sugestion is ok but dont go balistics if People ignore it. Most People dont reakt to well with others demanding something....

Well. I have been reported and insulted for saying things like:

"Don´t do that [name], it is suicide."

"What are you doing [name]?"

"[Explaining mechanism X]"

"Why are you going that way, the enemy is on the other side... Look at the minimap!"

 

usual reply is:
"stfu noob"

"who are you to tell me anything"

 

I often reply with:
"Well.... you can look up my stats?"

 

And then they just start bashing me for having an ego or hacking/cheating etc. Say welcome to reports.

 

So yeah, I am apparently a toxic player. I do NOT condone things like "get X desease" and the like. THAT is true toxic chat. And I do feel "bad" players are more common then toxic chat. And by that I mean those that refuse to learn anything about the game and just whine (look at the forums and you know exactly what I mean).
