Seriously "Wargaming" I think you should let the spotter planes die when the ship sinks as this ruins my destroyer gameplay. I sank a Kongo and I was flanked by Cruisers and suddenly I was spotted by that Kongo's spotter plane without even knowing he had a plane in that area and it appeared suddenly on my mini-map and as result of that I sank where I should've survived. It's already painful to be a DD when CVs are launching their planes around. Thank you.

Oh no, another "I got killed" thread !

Just play another game and forget about it, spotter planes will continue to fly until they run out of time (fuel?) and have no where to land again.  This is well known so pop smoke or move the 5km it takes to not get spotted by it !! lol :tea_cap:

Running away is a viable tactic if not surrounded by Cruisers and all they need is to spot you and that plane did just that. It was pure luck that made them sank me.

Pop smoke and then cruisers turn on their sonar = death ( Didn't solve the problem )

just learn from it so you can forsee this eventuality in the future and hopefully you will become a better player.  Llearn from mistakes, dont come to the forum and whine about them :child:

My mistakes? I didn't see that plane on the mini-map and for sure if I did I wouldn't have gone to that place.

Not necessary; smoke hides from planes. If someone else is spotting it you have a chance of shooting it down.

When a ship sinks does the planes engines automatically fall off?

No so you have to shoot it down because the plane will be up for x amount of time and will do its job.

Getting surrounded by multiple cruisers in destroyer is basically guaranteed fast sinking no matter if you're spotted immediately or half minute later.

(unless that time is enough to let you slip into some cover to run back to own team)

If you made mistake in planning ahead don't blame enemy, but look into mirror.

And try to remember next time to consider into what situation agressive pushing will put you.

I often let some enemy destroyer get away with low hp, not rush juicy looking BB, or don't go after carrier, because doing that would probably get me cornered and sinked soon at least by other enemies.

No doubt sometimes that further agressiveness would pay out, but equally there's chance for not even getting intended target.

He does have a slight point, though, if only in terms of realism/immersion. It always struck me as a bit odd that, upon seeing his "parent" ship sunk, the pilot of an aircraft would fly in endless circles around the wreck until he runs out of fuel and crashes to his death into the sea. Wouldn't it be more logical to try to return to a land-based airfield, a nearby friendly carrier or bail out and hope for pick-up from a friendly (or indeed enemy) ship. Could never understand why the game just shows the pilot doing an incredibly dumb, suicidal move like circling until his inevitable demise.

the plane should continue flying as long as it would have normally.

After that, fuel depleted, plane crashes.

This game is already arcadey enough without adding another unrealistic feature of planes crashing as soon as their mother ships sink.

These spotter planes are indeed annoying, they end up spotting my planes too... they should die/sink after a while... just like planes from a carrier ! ;)

I thought they did... but perhaps not anymore... or it just takes too long ?! ;)

There is a point though. The Spotter Plane stays in the air long after it's usual time is up, if the parent ship is sunk. Usually it is up only 1:30, but is the ship is sunk it is up for around 5 minutes. Spotter Planes also move in a very wide circle, effectively covering a large portion of the map.

Moments before i die i will launch my plane just to get op story ;0, glad it works still :)

I have been doing that since CBT. It really is very much worth it because of the long time the plane stays in the air. Even if it wasn't, it would still be worth doing. However I can certainly see the annoyance when it is up for much longer than it is otherwise capable of.

This is the real problem with them, a DD shouldn't get detected by it but it can heavily limit their movement.

as a primarily DD player I say OP need to learn a bit of things about how to play DD.....

also with that sonar thing - if those cruisers were far enought to not pot him by themselves, then considering that this was kongo that has been sunk narrowing quite much the tiers of battle I'd say that propability that these cruisers would have sonar good enought to pick him up is rather low to smoking up until the spotter plane gets far enought would be sufficient solution
