How to get friendly destroyers to teamplay

You need a smoke so you can use your cruiser DPM to full potential without risking getting deleted by a battleship? You are bored with destroyers using smoke to only cover themselves, even though they don't have to, and in fact they lose their scouting ability and are sitting ducks for torpedoes? Here is how to do it:

i did this regularly

until i realised, that in most cases i get rekt, because instead shooting spotted DDs, the lovely cruisers shoot BBs instead......and dont support ME in fighting the other DDs.....

and the friendly BBs use the smoke to stealthfire also...well....other BBs......so approaching cruisers shoot me in addition to the other DDs unharmed.....

conclusion:

in most cases i do this in a division. but the normal random peasant? nope......

in 99% of the cases i get nothing in return for my smoke-wall

So you tricked him into laying out his smoke when there is no enemy in sight. Now considering where you all are on the map, it is absolutly possible that this DD will need his smoke in a short while. You just robbed him of of a tactical option.

Yeah... some kind of teamplayer you are. Not.

correct but only partially

if you are stupid enough to actually bait yourselves to clicking the "T" , you are most likely dumb enough to use the smoke in cap after you passed the first cap buoy and sit in the smoke till the world ends

so using the smoke like this might actually lead to saving you from being torped in said smoke :teethhappy:

The average DD player in a domination mode game:

Someone on the team ask politely for the DD player(s) to go to certain objectives and that they will support them the response; silence from DD player(s) which then proceeds to go hunting for enemy BB(s) while enemy DD(s) caps all objectives. When asked firmly but politely to try to cap the objectives the response; silence but now DD(s) either makes a suicide rush against multiple BBs, cruisers or tries to hunt the aircraft carrier and in all cases gets rekt' and the team loses.

Or the DD player never leave spawn or sails aimlessly around and when challenged to help the team even more silence is heard.

Had a 5,4k battles 41%  WR Shima player demonstrate why he was a 41%'er on Tears of the Desert map domination mode - for most of the game he simply sailed aimlessly around and when we needed him the most at the end of the game he parked broadside on about 1 km SE of the B objective launcing his torps against one of the enemies BB while he was within detection range from that BB, however the BB did not kill him - what killed him was the 2x5 torps the enemy Fletcher launched at his stationary ship. At no point in that game did that Shima player contribute with anything to the team and given his abyssmal performance I can't say whether he was a bot or really that bad as he never responded to the requests for him to help the team. Anyway the larger question at hand here is why such a player have not have his account deleted for botting?

This weather thingy doesn't work as I tried it. Only makes you pop your smoke

Are you sure? It cleans up the weather for me - no foggy vision.

Smoke covering a Cruiser doesnt work, they are still visible well at least the US CAs are. And yes Cruisers dont really bother to help their team at all, Need air cover? Um i think its been months since ive seen another cruiser provide AA cover, Need radar...only even get Radar used against me not with me as a DD..

I can tell you now playing DDs mostly atm we do more for our team then CA players do. We make BB players paranoid about pushing to flags, we punish idiots who sail in straight lines...we provide Anti DD cover for BBs, we scout out ships....

Yep - OP needs to l2p! He made his teammate waste his smokescreen and then probably died there because his big bum stuck out! Also he doesn't even use defensive fire on his Murmansk, what a scumbag

Also people don't seem to realise even if your invis in smoke they can still see the shells leaving your guns, so most CAs just stil side on and still, as a BB you aim for the tracers and bam kill a CA.... a CA does not sit still, it shadows a BB providing Support......CA = SUPPORT!

How about you use your tactical options and the DD use his. Had cruisers trying to use my smokescreen...... by pushing me out of it....  If you want coordinated cooldown use play team battles.

I guess that i because most of DDs players think that smoke screen is thier defensive help. Why smoke screen ships that has twice or trice their healtpool? They can take a few hits... WRONG! Smoke screens can be effectively used to help Your team CCs and BBs... Your "bottom" is behind the helm of a fast and manoevrable ship. You can easly evade; You don't hide in the smoke!

Unless, ofcourse, You have to go for a coffee and leave Your teammates hanging.:hiding:

Mikhail Kutuzov in need of buffs confirmed! Flint and brit CL got screwed by your insight as well.

BLYAAAT!

Oh wait, they are CL. Just like Murmansk...so it's all good, yes?

So you should use your smoke to save someone and run risking runing into an enemy with no way out? Most dont play the game to do things that give other people a better game at their cost.

When I play i will take opertumitys by friendlys nearby that prevent themself but i never demand help.

If I overextended and caught out of position thats my personal fault and not that of a DD not using his smoke on me.

last time I was deploying smoke to allow firendly yamato that was sitting bow in on some very cheesy point to stealthfire while spotting for him it ended up in the long term with him dead, me dead and match being lost......

welp ok on that second deployment I was rushing toward him and have started deployment little bit to early but those are details :P

Your "bottom" is behind the helm of a fast and manoevrable ship. You can easly evade; You don't hide in the smoke!

Which is also the most fragile of all ship classes.

Expecting to get engine "disability" from any hit being good starting point for planning...

At which point you're not running away and dodging so fast anymore and are unable to "cloak" if spotted by destroyer.

(+fire decreases stealth)

And assuming getting away losing more than around 1000hp becomes fast liability in later game lowering survivability against enemy destroyers.

Besides smoke being usefull for using guns to punish foolish enemies.

Because usually destroyer can't just nuke that side side showing enemy without giving time to realize what truck is running over him unlike BBs do routinely.

BBs aren't the only ones often just running through smoke.

Though in last match Myoko actually understood to stop behind smoke (even thanking in chat) to stay hidden from two BBs...

While own BB just run forward through smoke... though at least armor angled and bow towards enemies.

One of which (Fuso) was sailing quite broadside and got finished by two torps fair half minute later.

Basically using smoke effectively for protecting team mates would require voice communication because of writing being so slow and in front line in destroyer there just often isn't risk free time to write about giving smoke screen.

And even if whole team had voice com half probably wouldn't understand English if even having IQ above that of house plant.

I will tell you the same story from a DD point of view. At the beginning of the game you sail into the direction of the cap. Some smartass CA tells you to cap. To be polite you confirm that you are going to cap. If you are Lucky you get some CA support. But most of the time you can forget it. If you ask for support , only silence .  The smartass CA can't find the chat anymore and is sailing away from the cap.

When you get some support you slow down a bit so that the CA's stays  whitin support range. At the moment you are near the cap, you see the enemy is capping. At that moment you also see that your support immediately turns around.  That is the quality of most CA support.

People forget most of the time that teamplay is a two way street, you can't expect teamplay from others when you play only for your self.

A DD can use WASD and doesn't need smoke :-)

I remember once a team mate rammed me out of the cap, literally a second before the cap timer

At least I was able to get the cap anyway so it was a happy end.
