World of Battleships - what are Cruisers players currently doing?

THIS IS NOT A RANT THREAD

 

So, with the release of the long awaited German BB line it's understandable that the number of BB's in the game will rise. In the 11 Tier 5-6 Random games I've played over the last 2 days (+3 co-op) there has been only 1 game with less than 5 BB's per side with the rest having only 3 cruisers. By the end of the matches it was usually BB's and DD's left, all the cruisers died in the 1st 10 minutes, or hid at the back of the map trying to survive..
 

As a mainly Russian cruiser driver (Kirov/Molotov) it's obvious to me that it is now impossible for my ships to do "well" in the game, even with +50% damage over the average, due to the understandable nature of BB captains as they will prefer to shoot at a "no armour" Cruiser rather than shoot at another German Battleship (hmm tough choice). Cruisers lack the stealth of a DD, lack the armour of a BB but make up for it by hunting DD's, protecting BB's from planes and their speed allows them to scoot around the map at ease. Only, none of that is really possible at the moment because the BB's numbers are so huge they are literally all over the map and all shooting at cruisers first (it's a good tactic).

 

So where does that leave me, and the thousands of other cruiser players? Well I could go out in one of my BB's or DD's but that only increases the problem for those poor cruiser players who, like a masochist, keep hitting that battle button. While not an answer I think I'll just swap to Co-Op for a month or two until the RN cruiser line comes out and forum is of full of "World of Cruiser" threads

 

If you're an abused T5-6  cruiser player what are your plans while the current BB-Heavy meta exists? (T7+ it's coming to you too guys, sooooon!)

 

PS If the replies could leave out the "never show broadside, use HE" etc that'd be great. We know already this because we're here on the forum seeing it everyday.

The BB-heavy meta will end (IMHO) with the release of the Brit cruisers. *applauds*

 

So I will be parking up my current batch of cruisers, and focusing on those instead. Can't wait

 

Of course, so will everyone else. Just like today they have all suddenly become DD captains, with some frankly hilarious results. And many many suicides.

I've had at least decent results in Ashigara. Basically, you just need to be much more careful while playing a cruiser than normally. You need to make effective use of islands. Make sure as few battleships as possible can fire at you, while you have a clear shot at your preferable targets. I also would worry less about showing a broadside and more about constantly WASDing in irregular patterns (unless you know no one's firing at you). Most cruisers are accurate at max range, so use that range whenever you face battleships. At that range it's also easier to dodge shots.

Cant blame them, majority of the team is made out of BB's, and as soon as they see a delicious cruiser ''cruising'' around, they will not hesitate to swing their full firepower upon them, even when it means that they'll be showing their broadsides towards enemy BB's.

yeah u play rus ca , but what tier ?u know low tiers dotn have def at all Budy best def ca at mid tier , so its normaly u can get rekt, but with range its easy spam to hunt all these BBs

OP amended to say what tiers I'm playing (mainly T5-6 - my TX Moskva is staying in port til the repair costs are not retarded).

 

Again, just to clarify, no-one is asking for tips/tactics, we know already so you're wasting you're valuable time re-telling everyone for the 1000th time. When there is 6 BB's facing you no matter what you do, what island you meekly hide behind, you will be giving "someone" a shot at you.

Love this current BB meta. My HE spamming cruisers are getting more damage than ever and my gunboat DDs are having a blast as well. So no complaining here.

No this was a good game, but mostly, you have to deal with the danger that you might get one shotted any time... As (US) cruisers have the lowest damage potential (their only chance to do massive damage as big as torpedo salvo or BB citadel is detonation) you have to use cover, minimise the nuber of guns that are pointing at you and provide more juicy (closer) targets than you. Seems to work

They are waiting for the british cruiserline to appear, so everything will be flooded with Flint 2.0 and it will be a nightmare to play BB or DD.

Well I swapped sides to BB's for a few games - Did 140K+ damage in my Nagato, was utterly bored the whole match.

 

It felt like sex, 1 second of excitement as you fired the big guns then a long wait for a reload

I've played several games as the only cruiser in a game in my Myoko and I managed to get top of the scoreboard in all of them. Most German BB players don't know how to play so I don't give a damn.

It doesn't look like this tragic for me personally. For now my Myoko and Mogami (155) experience is really good, and sometimes it feels trivially easy to light something on fire and rack up dmg. But I may have this positive feeling because I am using CAs focused on maximum stealth (still no 5th skill captain tho). I generally don't mind being bottom tier if I can use stealth to disengage or engage at my will, preferably with the most convenient situation.

 

I recognize though that for other type of cruisers this might not be the most comfortable moment to sail around.

I have all the T10 cruisers, but my joy recently is with the Cruisers below:-

Mogami 155mm guns (Forgot how much fun this was and a nightmare to DD players)

Shchors (The Wannabe Hindenburg, great little ship)

Cleveland  (The money maker)

and they will have me prepared for RN cruisers due soon.

Mostly playing destroyers ( Benson, Fletcher) for the moment due to the target rich environment. Only cruiser I'm currently grinding is the MK to get my Kirov captain up to 15 points. Playing T5 with the current matchmaking is far from a joy so my the Kirov itself rusts in my port. Sometimes play my Cleveland, Kuma or Furutaka for fun. Haven't touched the Indianapolis, New Orleans and Baltimore in a while. There are to many battleboats and not enough (if any at all) carriers around nowadays. I don't mind the meta to much, I've just adjusted my playstyle accordingly. I do think the lack of diversity will get boring eventually. Can't wait for the new cruiser line to shake things up a bit.

Since the German BB release I've managed to get 3 Witherer medals, and considering I'm not that good in cruisers or play them very often, I guess you could say I'm just taking advantage of the big HP pools floating around. And with the DD mission on currently mid to high tier games are composed of a huge amount of DD's. So if you get into tier 7+ games I found it to be more World of DD's/DD hunting cruisers.

Well, setting them on fire I suppose ... not that I'm playing a lot of cruisers lately since I'm currently grinding the german BBs and my newly acquired premium ships myself, but my Blyskawica, Atago and Scharnhorst all have a jolly good time with their BBQs.

 

The couple games I had in my Shchors before I finally got enough XP to unlock the Chapayev (which is currently not bought) were likewise quite flammable and I had a maniacal grin of an arsonist on my face the entire time

within the last few weaks I managed to get witherer twice (one in the Budy and one in the Zao). An achievement that's quite seldom to me! And only with fire damage, so, can't complain about too much BBs
