im 2000 XP and 3M money away from the amagi

 

should i trade the nagamon in for an amagi?

is it a straight up upgrade to the nagato?

how are the ballistics? similar?

theres obviously more firepower, alpha dmg etc, but is it more satisfying to play?

is it one of those good ships that gets violated by MM on a regular basis?

I don't really know about the "technical" questions, a long time ago I was so impatient and crazy to free xp and skip from Fuso to Yamato directly and die miserably like the noob I was at tier 10 and quickly return to the lower tiers I belonged to at that time, but if you have no port space issues I woudn't sell Nagato even if it's worth it for Amagi and just wait to have the credits by playing, but well, you should consider too if you really like to play Nagato that much to still play her if you were to keep it too.

The extra 4 guns and 5 knots of speed are nice, otherwise they're pretty similar. I do miss my Amagi, but Nagato's MM was just that little more favourable so I kept her instead.

 

Edit: Oh, forgot the ballistics! It's been a little while since I played her, but since they fire the exact same ammo from the exact same turret, they should be identical.

You should, but I wouldnt sell Nagato tho, i regretted selling mine back in the days so I rebought it. Farm credits in mid tiers. Its straight forward an upgrade. You'll love the ship!

It's different to the Nagato - the nagato is usually quite brawly, while the amagi is more ranged (has very good grouping).

The amagi is much more like the Kongo mixed with the fuso, in that it's fast, accurate but not particularly  (for a BB) armoured.

A lot of people don't agree with me but I do not like the Amagi at all, its guns are the same as the Nagato but with better accuracy BUT it lacks a lot of penetration when getting uptiered, your armour is just sh*t, its MM is just bad (a lot of tier X games since update 0.5.9. ) and its range is just subpar compared to everything on her tier.

Nagato is solid battleship but Amagi at least for me was a bit different . It is like super heavy Myoko

I don't own Amagi, but from my test server experience its kinda meh - guns were okay, but nothing spectacular, top speed was fine, turn radius compared to NC is 404 not found, turret layout is kinda awkward when going offensive, armor also was lacking. Torpedo belt is great though.

 

I guess question lies in "do you really want Yamato"

i would rather say that amagi is upgraded fuso, not nagato. and it is excellent.

Yup I would get it. Amagi is a solid ship!

It hits hard, its accurate, its fast (sometimes a negative if you're an aggressive player like me but hey ho).

 

Its armor is apparently not that great but I haven't found it an issue tbh. If I angle well I can shrug off shots without too much trouble and if I show broadside I get punished severely... like every other BB in the game really. Its maneuverability isnt great though, its long and takes a while to turn, expect to run into islands now and again.

I dn't think it's more satisfying to play as mistakes cost more, being T 8. She's quite unforgiving due to her weak armor, on the other hand she's got massive firepower and the ability to bring all guns to bear while decently angled (something NC can't do). It's just a different gaming, a high risk / high reward experience. Try it and see if it fits you, just be sure to skip the stock hull with free XP before to decide.

it has its moments tho, like just now I got in that icy islands map in a tier x game, and there was this major brawl going on, and it was just glorious since it actually has half decent secondaries.

Got the Amagi yesterday. All in all, it looks like love on the first sight! Shell arcs and grouping are excellent. Damage is also. Yes, it has worse armor but that speed makes up for it easily imho. It's secondaries have less range but don't be afraid to brawl with her(if you're decent at it).  It doesn't have the same range but honestly, who shoots at 20km regularily and expects to hit stuff properly? Despite those random instant deletions of cruisers.

I struggled a lot with Amagi at first. I like my aggressive USN BB play style, this doesn't work for Amagi at all. Amagi is a decent sniper that doesn't like to be hit. Time your push very carefully.

 

I didn't sell my Nagato, I keep the ships I like.

Oh, one more thing, you should accumulate free xp to skip the awful (but beautiful) stock hull. If you play with it, every shot landing in the area from under your chimney to the fourth turret will penetrate your citadel.

I wouldnt keep Nagato if you want to play it as a brawler ship. I really think that since the arrival of the Scharnhorst and Gneisenau at the same tier, that Nagato is completely outclassed as a brawler ship. The new germans have alot more speed, full HE secondaries and even torps. I havent played a single game in my Gneisenau yet without there being another Scharn or Gneis in that battle. I did keep my Nagato tho, but not as a brawler. 

 

 

I did recall the Amagi being an upgrade to the Nagato in a few obvious ways, except for handling in general. I didnt look up stats, but Nagato just feels more agile.

Amagi handles like a giant cruiser but with giant doomcannons that can hit anything. I've annihilated destroyers at over 12 km with her before. She's great, one of the only ship that outperforms the carriers tier by tier. Definitely get her.
