T6 French Premium: Battleship Dunkerque Disappoints

Question is if she's limited to this average or if good players can make it shine or not: Does it have potential, what's her skill ceiling? Is she fun to play?

But no, stat-wise she doesn't look particularly wrong at this very early point.

 

This way it makes more sense since it includes all the recent nerfs/buffs/changes and puts the "games played" to a comparable level.

 

 

Also people should expect a nerf of practical ALL German BB's in the incoming  patches. Practical in all tiers the free German BB's are on top by far. Just look at Bismarck/Tripitz for example. Just like they did with the Russian DD's.

 

In other words in time the Arizona and Dunkerkerque will be the top ships in Tier 6 (not incoming including).  That is my opinion so far without playing her of course . But we will see Sunday/Monday I think.

Maybe i'm reading the numbers wrong.

Maybe there aren't enough battles already

But when I look at the stats I would say that French ship is more than okay.

Take those with a shipload of salt..

Did they play at Gamescom on the North-American server? Not on the European server? Because  my numbers are from the NA server. You can't find the ship in the stats of the other servers.

 

Also on the NA forum  they are saying great things about the ship now. Maybe she got a buff between the test and the release.

Higher tier German bb's are played by experienced users. Most of them free-XP-ed them. They should play well with them using there 15+ captains from Tirpitz.

Ok, now I'm convinced they really do roll the dice to determine the price of premium ships... what else could possibly be the reason for the Dunkerque costing ~5€ less than the other tier 6 BBs? I mean, it's better than costing 5€ more, but still... some consistency would be nice.

But I got her and won the very first game I played with her, so, it's all good..

 

Edited to add:

 

First game: did just under 40 k dmg, despite basically rushing a Soviet cruiser and a Kongo, without room to maneuver, in order to draw fire off our CV, so it could get to safety.

Second game: did well over 60 k dmg, although we crushed the enemy badly.

 

So far, I love this ship..

Holy cow, im making 100k+ dmg pretty much every game in this monster. Its soft, but hell it packs a punch. Im super happy with it

I don't know why Flamu and other are complaining this baguette, but this ship...... is so beautiful and also great ship! Great guns and to cruisers, be aware of this ship. This baguette is hungry.

The problem with making BBs as Cruiser killers is that your team has effectively one BB less.

 

I do not own it, I just shot a couple that were on the enemy team with my Bayern. A bit "soft" I would say.

 

Nice to have 8 guns front. What happens when things get tight??? You turn or, you try to reverse??? I reverse in my IOWA but, I do not see this thing having enough armor to survive.

 

Don't get me wrong, it is a very beautiful historic ship and nicely priced. I want to have it. I am just concerned of this "Battleships to fight cruisers" hype.

The guns clearly do the job against BBs. HE are powerful with huge fire chance, and the AP may not overmatch the armor but they have really good penetration.

If anything, the only real downside against another BB is the lack of armor.

 

If things get tight, I guess there are only two option : the heroic charge to deal the maximum amount of damage, or turning when the other BBs reload, and going for slalom while using the great secondaries and the rear turret arc (which is far from being bad, it's not an Izumo)

My last four games last night completely had me shafted, mostly due to my teams abandoning me. Still, in one instance I took a hell of a lot of punishment before I went down. Killed my stats though because every T7-8 carrier tha saw me was going "mine mine mine". It was really sad

I don't have it so I can only speak from my experience when fighting them.

My experience fighting against Dunkerque? 

When in my Fuso, it is actually relatively hard to pen BUT it doesn't seem to do much damage in return either.

However, the problem I see? It eats HE like crazy - as in, it is wrecked by it crazy fast.

 

The fact it is forced to go bow on means that if something hits, it is far more likely to hit the soft superstructure. I did 7k damage in a single volley with my Myoko with her HE to one of those things. That is not something I would expect - even DDs don't seem to be that vulnerable to HE fire.

 

Still, I didn't notice these things go down particularly quickly. The are capable of holding more or less as long as other battleships.

Well you seem to get focussed by the CVs a lot of times because the ship turns pretty sluggish.

 

But the guns are insane.

 

My only real problem with this beauty is that she heavily promotes this stupid bow-on camping or even reversing. I even caught myself doing it for a bit until I noticed how stupid that looks :-(

 

However - nice ship!
