I found very little teamwork in general this season, most played DD to gain that easy XP for capping and if any ships were left it was mostly the DD floating about the outside and ninja capping.

To say ranked contains teamwork is mostly a lie, it was basically a smaller random game in which everyone did what they wanted hence why afk and bots were around a fair bit at least instead of being carried afk and bots would be punished and go nowhere where those which try get rewards for there efforts.

How many times did you do well in a losing battle just to lose a star when you had more xp than the bottom winning 3?

Apologies for asking, but were we playing the same game?

Maybe you played in the weekends during daytime, because the single time I did that, it made me feel like a masochist!

During weekends in daytime Ranked was toxic and full of awful selfish players never cooperating. Evenings on the other hand were my friend, since teamwork usually quite good and the players friendly.

Sure there was a bunch of Yolo sh*t going on in the lower ranks, but once above rank 10 I saw mostly teams agreeing on and executing the same plan.

I rarely saw an AFK (it was almost always some guy with a client crash who came back).

What set the 6-10 bracket apart from the 2-5 bracket were mostly ignorance and execution errors.

The team didnt focus fire on DDs. Smoke wasn't used to properly shield allies. BBs refused to push while at a points deficit, untill it was too late. When BBs pushed the rest of the team failed to follow it in and support it.

Those are all examples of teamwork or examples of using abilities to benefit the team.

I didn't get to play much ranked because I was new. It seemed more fun than randoms though. I think if anything simply awarding the stars to the winning team is the best and most fair way to do things. Maybe you could earn credit on losing for completing some nominal base level of xp or ribbons with 7 such defeats allowing you to keep a star, possibly less. That would keep the slight bias towards progression that the current system introduces. As it stands it encourages players to play DD's and often awards progression for selfish play which is bad.

It depends if people see ranked as a measure of ability or as a decent way to usually get a more competitive match than randoms.

You know, during Ranked season there was this mission. Earn 25.000 credits by being in top 5 (or was it 6?) or your team.

Since Ranked teams is composed of only 7 ships it was almost guaranteed money 9/10 games if you were any good. Earned several million credits this way before reaching rank 1 :playing:

For a game that was supposed to be about individual achievement, they sure took the joy out of playing by tying your results to the team win rate.

Is this really the case?! The sample size is rather low, but I reached rank 1 after ~200 battles with a 58% win rate - and sguess what, that's also my win rate in >5000 (solo) random battles.

Unfortunately the reached ranks for the last season seem to be no longer available at http://shipcomrade.com/leaderboard.asp?name=&G=1&S=4&B=5&R=4&C=0, just the win rate itself. Quickly checking the random stats for the top ten in that list shows that all but one of them are well above 50% in solo(!) random battles, most above 55%. Based on that, it would seem to me that usually individual performance is still the most important factor for success, also in the well above 100 battles that it takes to get to rank 1.

UK afternoon was primetime for good players, evenings and all day anytime weekends was filled to the brim with potatoes and that was through all ranks.

I think ranked should be split up between the tier of ships more,

Lower end tier 5 and 6 ships and 5 stars to move up the ranks

Mid ranks tier 7 and 8 ships and 6 stars to move up the ranks

High ranks tier 9 and 10 ships and 7 stars to move up the ranks

Champions rank 1 star with tier 10 ships so that way everyone has to play one battle to earn what ever reward.

so that way every one has to pass through the 3 zones to get to the number 1 slot.

With tiers 9 and 10 I would expect problems with getting sufficient population to keep game waiting times reasonable.

I started to play Ranked battles in the middle of the 4th season. I was afraid it would be like team battles in WoTs, where you see the same tanks filled with very skilled and unfriendly people : not the case.

Ranked for me is far more interesting than random.

Lack of team play : yes, also many unskilled people but the essence of games like WoWs is team-play so when I read here that WG should reward more individual achievements I'm puzzled to say the least...

Instead guys, WG may have to "hold by the hands" and reward more team playing. How, I dont know. Maybe some informative messages there and there with tips (yes, I often think it's needed lol).

RIght now as I'm bored with then "normal" game I'm waiting for the next ranked battles season, despite having some free premium time up. Maybe I'll join the public test to test the new german BBs ^^ though.

Peace out.
