aka the yorck

 

now that i got my first T10 ship, im looking to grind for my 2nd

the hindenburg looks like a strong contender for the silver medal behind the zao, but im stuck at T7............... the absolute bottom-of-the-barrel rust bucket yorck

 

i thought cleveland arcs and shell speed were bad............ this is only marginally better

i struggle to hit anything reliably even at 10km

granted when the shells do land, you can do 4-5k AP volleys, but they land at such weird angles its not consistent in the least

a 1/2 rudder shift either way from my enemies would make me miss entirely, same with speed changes

you cant fight up close either, the tissue paper armor is only there for show

you thought RNG was bad on BBs, this is no better, except the "RNG" is decided by your opponents

 

so what do i do then?  be a stationary turret behind an island?

how do i play this garbage tier vessel?

 

or should i abandon the nazi boats entirely and start grinding the hammer and sickle or the starry banner?

are there any beacons of hope other than the hindenburg after T7? like on the jpn like, after the cancerous futuraka and aoba (back when they furu was 1x6 turrets, now its aoba back to back), the myoko was decent....  and then 2 more garbage ships before you reach the zao

the only hits i have against the moskva and DM are the skyscraper-tall ride height and large citadels on the moskva and the arcs on the DM

oh and they lose out on 1 turret compared to their competition

^ What he said, use HE with Demo Expert skill. Unlike all GE cruisers, Yorck is a HE monster. Use AP only on broadsided targets below 8-9 km. Yorck is OK ehen played with HE.

Yeah, York has faster HE shells, stick to it and if you are finished with the grind forget everything you learned, because from the Hipper you get the Hindenburg guns and have to get used to them. And yes the Hindenburg is probably the 2nd best T10 Cruiser.

First of all, neither Mogami nor Ibuki are garbage ships.

 

Secondly, Yorck is just fine.

Treat the Yorck as an CL, helps a bit.. 

 

She is diffrent to all T7 CA.

I bough the Yorck yesterday,  had only good games with her. The gun arc doesn't feel that high to me, but maybe that is because i play BB alot also.

Said it before and will continue saying it. The ship is garbage because it does not follow the style of the its German sisters but it can work sometimes...

First of all, neither Mogami nor Ibuki are garbage ships.

 

Secondly, Yorck is just fine.

 

the mogami had potential to be top tier and it would do alright

but the ibuki almost guaranteed you a T10 match

 

both were pretty much the same ship

i'd always get citadeled from weird angles and mid turn

(and you'd have to show a good amount of broadside to use your guns)

i think the large area under the front 3 turrets made that possible

 

and i think more than anything, they just dont seem underwhelming compared to competition

roon has railguns + hydro

baltimore has great armor

donskoy has great guns + radar

 

mogami has.........................  nothing

arcs are still pretty lazy

AA is mediocre

torp angles are good

Use HE as your primary ammo and only switch to AP for short range engagements (10 km or less). 

 

Hipper is OK, Roon is very good. 

 

but isnt german HE Scheiße?

it used to be - but never on the Yorck. It's more or less your only semi-decent ammo type considering how crap its AP ballistics are at anything above knife-fighting ranges. And Hipper C hull and onwards have more than adequate HE - not going to equal IJN in that department, but combined with their superb fire rate for 8"ers, it's plenty good enough.

The Ibuki has stealth, speed and great HE. Know how to use these and it's a great ship.

 

Getting back to the Yorck, it's quite different from other German cruisers in that you need to use a lot of HE with it. AP is practically useless against anything more than 10km away.

Well the Konig and Nurn are ok.

 

Yorck is ok. You'll live longer than in Neinberg. I have trouble eliminating Yorcks. I've kept her as my tier 7 cruiser! I had good success with HE and hydro build. Way better than my noob performance in Pepsi.

 

Hipper I'm not gelling with yet. But I hear Roon and Hindy are great ships.

Well for a start if you look at stats it is quite low performing compared to SN and IJN lines, but also I think it relies too much on good AP and has advantages that are hard to use. The Konig is very nice as is the Nurn although the Nurn struggles when matched up vs t7/8. 

 

It has good Hydro but Hydro dosen't seem to scale with tier and becomes progressively less useful while preventing you from taking AA. The later tier ships become progressively slower which means you'll be beaten to the useful locations. 

 

You have good torpedo arcs but 6km range is 2 km too short really.

Yeah, German HE these days isnt nearly as bad as its reputation... Hindenburg can very much keep up with Moskva and DM as a mid to long range firestarter (DM needs to be kinda close to hit reliably assuming a competent, dodging opponent - and it doesn't actually shoot that many fewer shells anyway). Zao is still king of that particular hill obviously, but I feel like Hindenburg might actually be second these days. And when you do get a broadside, oh dear... I assume Woof has never seen what Hindenburg AP does to broadside Battleships? Nothing pretty, I assure you :izmena:

And the Torps are also definitely useful, as a massive deterrent if nothing else. People either know you have them and play accordingly (which often means turning away and presenting a broadside in the process), or sometimes they don't and they die.

I love the Yorck:

- at max range: Annoy enemys with HE and fires

- get into 10-9 km and sink cruisers with AP

- get into 6 km and sink ships with torps

Overall: Great ship at all ranges and i will definitely keep it.
