Orree Beta Tester 145 posts Report post #26 Posted August 3, 2016 I will drive whatever I'm grinding or whatever I need to drive for a particular mission or event if I'm bothering to take part. Sometimes, I will pick ships I don't really want to play simply because a a friend needs/wants to play a specific tier/ship and I have to match. I don't play CVs at all and don't really enjoy DDs, so rarely select them. The first set of ARP missions saw me playing the Cleveland waaaaaay more than I wanted to just to get fires and hits quicker. I hate that ship, tbh...so tired of it...lol. In WoT, it was different for me...I played everything (except SPGs) for the variety.
[LONR] thestaggy Beta Tester 403 posts 7,718 battles Report post #27 Posted August 4, 2016 (edited) I joined the game in order to play battleships while hoping that I get to see battlecruisers one day. These are ships I have an historical interest in. From a game point of view, in every MMO I have played I gravitate towards tanks/brawlers because they fit my playstyle. I like to slug it out.So, in WoWs its all about the New Mexico and Warspite for me at the moment. I'm really not enjoying the IJN BBs because they don't fit my playstyle (too soft and too reliant on long-range dueling), but I want to get to the Nagato as that is another brawler. The downside in this game is that brawlers still need support and support is rare, especially from friendly BBs. Too often I seem to be the only BB on my team that actually wants to fight while the rest are trying to migrate to the NA server. I've tried cruisers and destroyers but I'm far too aggressive and just get myself sunk or I play far too passively trying not to get sunk. Zero interest in CVs for the same reason I have zero interest in artillery in WoT. I'm here to play and fight ships/tanks and these two classes do not directly engage other ships/tanks. 2D whack-a-mole does not interest me in the slightest. I think I played 3 or 4 Co-op games in the Langley and said ''nope''. Edited August 4, 2016 by thestaggy
[BFT] basharran Beta Tester 260 posts 3,008 battles Report post #28 Posted August 4, 2016 Playing all lines (although CV is mostly at a "pause"). Play a lot with friends in divisions so that's the main motivator for tier and type. Like all ship types and not really grinding towards anything specific, the next ship will come in due time. Only exceptions are when I don't really like a particulair ship, I will make it a "daily grind" with XP boosters and get it over with. Current maximum tier is 8, with about 6 tier 7's propping up the ranks, on the lower tiers I try to keep at least 1 ship per tier for playing with friends. If possible it will be a premium ship, but I've also kept some fun non premiums as well.
[KUMA] Kittykami Beta Tester 289 posts 11,934 battles Report post #29 Posted August 4, 2016 Depends if I'm with friends or not. If I'm in a division I usually just let them pick and choose something to complement it. I suck at high tiers so I never really venture above tier VIII on my own, although I do sometimes take my Iowa on a solo jaunt for lols. I'll usually grind to reach historical ships that I like, hence why I have a Yamato in port that I never use and I'm rubbish at playing in. I do love looking at her though :3. If I'm on my own and want to have some 'fun', I'll usually take Warspite or Gremy out. Arizona is rapidly becoming a favourite of mine too and Zuiho is fun if you don't get matched against two fighter Bogues and a bunch of Clevelands ;_;
[FATAL] krazypenguin Beta Tester 573 posts 2,930 battles Report post #30 Posted August 4, 2016 I decided to only play Japanese ships and was aiming to have the entire tech tree in my port, plus a Japlanta for main battery hit missions. I am currently grinding the tier 7 DD, CA and BB and the tier 5 CV (though I don't like CVs so will probably stop that line once I finally elite the tier 5). As for progressing up to tier 8...I'm not sure. I don't want to put myself through the pain of grinding XP and credits for high tier ships, just to suffer the same frustrations as at lower tiers but with massively increased repair costs. So once the tier 7s are elited I think I'll stop there and just play my existing fleet for fun. How do I pick a ship to play? If I'm not grinding, then I'll almost always take either the Kami R or my Japlanta because they are my most fun ships.
Zed_Von_Toza Players 326 posts 1,155 battles Report post #31 Posted August 4, 2016 Here's a guide I follow Step one . don a outrageous historically accurate moustache to get into the mood for some warships. Step two. find a ship that's worthy of such a outrageous moustache Step three. Sail into battle in hms warspite while twiddling the tips of said moustache and have a jolly good time trashing lesser vessels Works for me Don't forget talking like Noel Coward, sipping Earl Grey from a bone china cup and saucer and eating toasted crumpets. Ferry_25 Players 4,392 posts 12,107 battles Report post #32 Posted August 4, 2016 Nice thread. I like to collect ships as well so it's sometimes hard to pick one. In the beginning of the session I usually start with a mid tier ship for 2 or 3 rounds to check how the "player environment" is. If I draw the conclusion there's a nice play to win athmosphere I'll take my grinding ships out. If it's a potatoes-R-us scene, I'll stick to some premiums and rather quickly call it a day. I grind all non-CV lines (CV is not my "thing"). All BB's are complete, stuck @ Baltiless, just got Ibuki (2 disaster games, but hey: I need to practise more!). Pretty much stuck @ Kageroo: play to lose credits is getting boring and lost interest in the Shima after the nerfs. Suffering through Hipster now and highly enjoying comrad Khabarovsk. Skyllon Players 2,588 posts Report post #33 Posted August 4, 2016 I'm not a grinder myself, progressing through tiers is just the side consequence of playing for me. Play ships I'm in mood of playing, or just pick one my friends want me to play. Sail mostly in cruisers (half of all games), BBs and DDs take more less equal part of the other half. Tried some CV gameplay, but I don't fell like those are made for me. Maybe I revisit them at some point in the future. Can't say I have a favourite ship - since I like almost all of them - but if I had to pick one, I'd say Myoko and Mogami (#bringbackmogami). I stick exclusively to Japanese and German lines though - back when I was lot younger and less ugly loved to dive deep into naval history of those nations. [WGB] iJoby Community Contributor 2,171 posts 30,920 battles Report post #34 Posted August 4, 2016 (edited) Great Topic. For serious game-play and contests, I use the ZAO, Start with Invisi fire and gradually try to cap if possible and no ships withing 9.7km. For fun and laughs, I use Kamikaze R, Cambletown, Tachibana, Smith and Derzki (what the game is all about really). For creating credits and contests, I use the Mexico, I love this ship and its 18 point captain. To be honest, any ship you have can be fun if used correctly with the right Captain and Skills. Siegwald Beta Tester 299 posts 3,637 battles Report post #36 Posted August 4, 2016 As I don't actively grind (anymore), I play whatever promises the most fun that moment. Right now that is US and RU DDs. Sometimes I'll have a look at my stats and start playing ships I have bad stats in to try and master them better. But usually not for long as fun is my prime motivator to play at all. Sometimes I'll even try CVs again but I obviously plain suck in them so these phases never last longer than a few days max... So to boil it down: I'm selfish and mostly play solo. That is why I'll do what is fun. It's a game after all. The moment it feels like work I'll rather work because then I can be productive in a more direct and real lifey way.
[UNICS] loppantorkel Players 4,506 posts 15,942 battles Report post #37 Posted August 4, 2016 (edited) I don't have a plan, but I guess Baltimore is next, then Des Moines, perhaps one premium in time, don't know which. Usually I go for one win in Gearing, Fletcher, Benson, Pensacola, NO and ARP Haguro, because they're all pretty fun ships. A Clemson game might sneak in here and there too. albinbino Players 662 posts 11,080 battles Report post #41 Posted August 4, 2016 My favorite BB is Izumo, this is where i stop, not buying Yamato. From tier 10 I have Zao, and it is enough for me to have one tier 10 because i am not premium user. Besides these two excellent high tier ships I am normally playing some lower tier ships in pursuit for credits, those are kamikaze and ARP ships. And yes occasional i take out Mogami for a ride, it is interesting ship since requires special approach due to huge citadel, it is very intense gameplay with it. anonym_hqO9wrVAEQYQ Players 381 posts Report post #42 Posted August 4, 2016 At the moment its just the Derpitz to earn credits and have fun and the Kirov ( even though i f***ing hate that piece of shite) just to get to the next ship. But due to seemingly only getting stuck in teams who camp and don't cap so I lose way more than i win then its a right pain to grind the Kirov. I have got up to the nagato and play that when I team up with a mate and also have a couple of Jap cruisers which i play with a mate. But other than that i am treading water waiting for the Brits and German BB's to appear. I have sold my yank BB's and DD's as I hated those with a passion, I have also stopped playing the yank CA's at the Pensicola. Oh and I stopped at the nurenburg as i just hated that ship as well. I tried the DD's but i am not a DD player. I have next to no interest in going higher than tier 7 at the moment. I will see what happens once the german BB's and Brit ships appear. But given that i have the derpitz then the german BB's had better good or i just wont see the point in playing them.

Venatacia Beta Tester 872 posts 5,885 battles Report post #47 Posted August 5, 2016 (edited) Play all nations DD CA & BB up to tier 8 so far on some lines. I don't play CV, I was ok in them in CBT but I don't like them because two on each team spoils the match, one on each team is ok but I don't play them to not promote them if that makes any sense. I don't grind any ship just play a variety of ships each day. I'm the same as you OP with premium ships, don't use them to grind captains. Buy them because I like them. Gremy, Anshan, Warspite, Campletown - should of bought the Murmansk because that looked like one of my favorite tier 5 ship's the Omaha. Well, there is the money budget to consider. Another digital ship or a meal out with friends - the later wins. I don't play to be the best because I never will be but I do like to win obviously and try my best but fun should be the upper most reason and my fun is playing evenly sided battles and having tense enjoyable battles where both sides could win it, not these one sided steamroll matches = they are awful. If I had to pick a few favorite ships - probably the Gremyashchy, Omaha, Clemson in the past. Present time, the ARP ships are giving me a blast at the moment and i'm no anime fan but I really like them. Edit; Arkansas Beta - probably one all time favorite. [TEA] Robber_Baron Players 1,322 posts 7,981 battles Report post #48 Posted August 5, 2016 I mainly stick to DD's, mostly gunboats. I mainly stayed with US DD's but begin to like the Soviet DD's, at least on the lower to mid tier. For the higher tiers I already have enough DD's: Blyska and Fletcher, with occasionally the Lo Yang and Fubuki (should play them more often). For a long time my Clemson has to be my favourite ship, but a loosing streak made me skip it for a while, and refound my love for the Blyskawica. I occasionally drive cruisers, but in general I don't do well. I play BB's even less and although I have a Langley I haven't found the courage to begin play CV's. Playing more in division lately makes me play in cruisers and battleships more often, and maybe I get better in the end. I don't keep paper ships (might change if the Dutch Project 1047 battlecruiser ever comes into game).
