[TVO] xenopathia Players 386 posts 13,741 battles Report post #1 Posted August 3, 2016 (edited) Are you a grinder or someone likes variety trying to play all ships equally? Obsessed with a particular ship, faction, class? A seal clubber focused on increasing ratings? A type of player not mentioned above? After a long, tiring day, what drives you selecting your ship for the next battle? In my case: A general player who likes variety and grinding. I really like the IJN line. The first(and only) T10 I got is the almighty Zao. Although my WR is too low yet, I really enjoy her. Already had an epic battle where I turned the tides and lead to a comeback. I definitely play her once each time I run wows. I stopped at Fubuki and I don't have an intention to grind up to Shima (which I was very much eager to reach in the early periods of my career). CCCP CA and DD are fantastic! Impatient to reach the Khaba and Moskva. Currently playing mostly with Ognevoi to grind up to Udaloi (might free XP). Special thanks to Grand Naval Battles, I started to like battleships which I found boring before the event. I like the USN BB's, currently at the N.Mexico and looking forward to reaching Iowa. (And thanks to public tests that gave the opportunity to test all the ships.) Stopped at the Cleveland. I see no point at the moment to reach the Des Moines. (maybe after I unlock all other T10's) Farragut is a beast. I like playing her once in a while. No rush there. Interestingly got my first ever Kraken with the Konigsberg. I really enjoy her. The AP works fantastic. I play 2-3 times a week. No rush in this line too. I love my premiums, don't play them only to train captains but to have fun. I love Kutuzov, fast firing behind the smoke sneaky borderline fun pack. The more I play the more I like her. I try to play 2-3 times a day. Atago (for serious fighters) is a determined, sturdy combatant that never gives up the fight. Not playing as frequently since I got the Zao. Blyskawica once my favorite ship got me to rank9. Still like her but after playing Udaloi and Khabarovsk on PT she lost her charm a bit. Now trying to work out the best way to make her work and increase the damage. I mostly play the first battle with her. Lo Yang my 2nd most played ship and still learning. I simply can not survive battles with this ship. Maybe I should stop pushing aggressively. I also have the most with her (which is nice in a way). I like thinking about the ship to play while on the way home. Even though there were a couple of times where I rage quit swearing to WG for the MM (always the 1st thing to blame ofc) *Thanks to WG* for this fantastic game. You do a great job creating a wide variety of ships and diverse play styles which I believe is one of the reasons that this game so much fun to play. I thought -if a tiny bit of possibility- this thread would be a nice pool of player insights for WG to observe and improve the game. I will keep playing and supporting World of Warships. Sometimes i switch to Cruisers or Battleships, but not too good with them, but still enjoy playing them. Carriers: again not too good, but love to take one out from time to time My favourite ship at present is Fubuki or Fletcher My least favourite ship would be without doubt the Shimakaze

Currently I have one T9 - Izumo, one T6- Ognevoi and rest all T8 (Chapayev, Hipper, Mogami, Benson, Fubuki, New Orleans and elited N.Carolina waiting for credits to buy Iowa). I will not stop until I have all T10, thats my goal. Im not any historical fanatic so I dont care so much about stories behind each ship. I play it becase I enjoy gameplay. I also like to check my stats and see that im improving at least a little, but still main goal are T10s. Zed_Von_Toza Players 326 posts 1,155 battles Report post #4 Posted August 3, 2016 Currently grinding RU cruisers. On the Kirov at the moment. My plan is to grind everything to T6 - except CV, I've only played 4 CV battles in Co-Op, and it's not the game I want to play. I haven't really touched DD's yet, once I have all the cruiser and BB lines to T6 I'll start on them next I think. I'm not going to touch the German BB's for a while, I'll let WG buff or nerf them before I start. Then I'll decide what lines I want to push up from there. I really like the US BB's I've played so far, and the IJN Furry Taco is a beast with her new C hull I really like her. And I'm actually finding the Kirov fun, although hard work at the moment, I still haven't quite worked out how to get the best from her, particularly against a fleet of camping BB's. I haven't bought any premium ships yet. So far the only one that interests my at my tier level is the Texas. Of course I'd love a Tirpitz but I want to play lots more higher tier games before I commit to that purchase. In terms of what I play, it really depends on how tired I am or where my mood is. Consequently I play a fair amount of Co-Op too. I also play Co-Op to grind a stock ship if I don't have enough free XP to upgrade her. I've learnt the hard way that stock ships in PvP are very painful.

After completing the line, I usually keep the Tier X and 1-2 favorite ships I grew fond of while grinding. My favorite ships are mostly BBs although I enjoy sailing my cruiser a lot too. Lately I've started playing some DDs again (used to sail them in the beta) and enjoyed it quite a lot, so I am considering to expand my horizons with a couple of DD lines in the near future. Although the upcoming German BBs might put those plans on hold These days my my favorite ships are my premiums (Tirpitz, Warspite, Atago...). They are unique, fun, and they give me a nice influx of credits. During a typical game session I play a mix of my premium ships and 1-2 ships I am grinding.

At the moment though I need another 15 million credits to buy the ships I've unlocked (not including modules) so I've been playing more premiums and not playing the lines where I'm waiting to buy the next ship. The only cruisers I play these days are Atago and Nurn, ditched DDs completely after Mutsuki and I can't bother to grind RU DDs. I don't have premium so I'll stick to the mid tiers and I find the gameplay much more compelling at lower tiers. I'd have a lot of ships to grind, namely Cleveland, Izy, Myoko and Kirov but I only do those when I'm in division.

[CBS] Allied_Winter Players 6,242 posts 10,755 battles Report post #13 Posted August 3, 2016 Interesting question! I'm a bit of both. I have some long term goals (Zao!), some mid terms (get better at aiming at citadells) and short term (get my daily dose of extra Free-XP with my beloved Anshan). Some days I just grind (with fun ofc) a "project" for a few games, and on other days I just fool around (either alone or in div). My main goal is to keep the fun going, which requieres me to not overplay! So allthough I gave all lines a shot, I abandoned some and reduced it to a few lines I grind out simulatneously. Currently four lines (IJN CA, BB, DD, US CA) which I focus stronger over others (RU DD, CA, US BB). Greetings
Martinborgen Players 144 posts 4,554 battles Report post #14 Posted August 3, 2016 I keep fun ships and ships I like for historic reasons. I am not a fan of paperships, possibly the T10 are an exeption, though I have yet to get there. Mostly CAs, with torpedoes for flexibility - I am an agressive player and I like having an 'equalizer' against battleships. CAs because I like the ability to capitalise on opportunities.
[SCRUB] Loran_Battle Beta Tester 1,245 posts Report post #15 Posted August 3, 2016 I play all the lines. Have them all unlocked up to tier 8/9. No, I still do not have tier 10s yet. (division mates not having tier 9 and me not really liking tier 10 gameplay). I also keep every single ship (117 atm) and have all of them fitted out. I get bored if I play a ship more then 3 times in a row. Recently it is mostly tier 6-8 premium ships, to grind credits to buy the last of the tier 8 ships, the Lexington. And then to buy a few of the tier 9s I am near unlocking (Baltimore and Roon). So specific ships: Molotov, Arizona, Indianapolis, Atlanta, Tirpitz and Kutuzov I guess. The only ship I'm really grinding at the moment is the Yamato, after that it is the Montana. So of the normal ships I play the Izumo a lot lately. So as a player I am mostly a collector. I like winning as well, so will try my best to git gut. Stats are fun to look at, but I try my best not to let them get to me, since that will ruin the game for me probably. I like to just have fun with division friends. I can get a bit upset at players being an [edited]to me, like allies torping me from behind, people reporting me for playing good (happens waaay too often, cause I am a cheater apparently) and the like. Then again, I can be an [edited]myself, when my team just sits at the back of the map in domination mode.
anonym_1YeUldJS8pjx Players 847 posts Report post #16 Posted August 3, 2016 Well for me it's like this: I like ships that historically were build and used. I like to drive my ships with best possible confuguration, that means camo and 1-2 premium consumables are always mounted. I don't like to pay to much for a game, so no regular premium though I use it from time to time if discounted and I need some credits for new ships I don't like to lose credits (no primium account) when playing - this baiscally makes me stop at Tier 8 ships. What I do is I play some lines up to tier 8. Keeping ships I liked but also trying not to keep more than 1 ship of (more or less) similar gameplay. I try to spread my keepers over the tiers so that I have some choice for playing with friends, events and so on. I don't need many ships - cause I like to have good captains on few ships. Syrchalis Players 1,401 posts 3,820 battles Report post #17 Posted August 3, 2016 I play the ship I want to play. The daily bonus gets ignored. Sometimes, very rarely, if I want to progress in a line I do the daily game in a ship, but even then I generally do that by waiting until I want to play that ship. The ships I keep are the ones I need for ranked or that I found fun to play. For example Kiev or Taiho.

When I say unique I don't necessarily mean it in terms of gameplay, although in the case of the Atago, the built in repair at Tier VIII makes it unique enough in my eyes. Sometimes I enjoy the fact that I am playing a ship that was particularly famous (Tirpitz or Warspite) and sometimes I simply like to feel like a special snowflake while sailing my cool premium ship around

[IRQ] AnotherDuck [IRQ] Players 2,930 posts 7,510 battles Report post #20 Posted August 3, 2016 The ships I choose to play for the day are usually the ones with the bonus, that I still more xp for to get to the next tier, or where I'm training captains. Currently grinding RU cruisers. On the Kirov at the moment. Same is true for me. Only a couple k xp away, though, and I wouldn't call it a "grind" as much as "playing the game". I mostly enjoy the IJN and USN DD lines. Up to T9 in both, and I really like all four T8-T9 ships there (currently getting captains to 15 on all of them). Not planning on T10 until I have plenty of money, which isn't likely any time soon. Probably would've saved some more USN ships down the line, but at the time I didn't have space. Still have several IJN DDs, though, such as Umikaze (probably my favourite ship in the game, especially in T4-T5 matches), and Isokaze. Can also add Kamikaze R to that list, which is an excellent captain training ship, and Tachibana, which is the ship that proves that the artillery rating is bogus. Got 1 in it, and it's one of the best gunboats. Very fun ship to play, and a surprisingly good brawler, even against the occasional cruiser, despite low HP. Smallest ship in the game. For cruisers, I've tried all lines, although only USN on the test server. Didn't like the gameplay much. The IJN cruisers I really like, although I currently don't own any other than the ARP ones, and again, money shortage keeps me from buying the Myoko (guess why I stopped there). Didn't really enjoy the German line that much, and I've currently stopped at T6. Might go further later on. As mentioned above, I'm almost done with Kirov, and I plan to go higher there. These ships are fun. Awesome AP, crap HE, awesome shell arcs, not even paper armour. Anything hits you, you take a ton of damage. Can't angle armour without actually having armour, and the turn time is almost as sluggish as a battleship, so the only real option is to snipe. But at least it's an excellent sniper with good range and good aim, so it's not like you'll be mostly useless at max range, unlike how some battleships play. I've only played the IJN battleships so far, and they're decently fun. Even the low tier ones. I've got crap luck with Nagato, though, but I'll continue, eventually. Other than the ARP Kongous, I've also got Fuso saved. Very fun ship. Most fun was in ranked low tier (although I got tired of ranked after that). I'm definitely getting Bismarck, once available. Been waiting on that ship since I started playing. Wrote a paper on that ship back in high school. Don't like carriers.

More so than in World of Tanks. Disregarding CV I've unlocked every tier 5, and soon that will be every t6. But for my active grind, I usually pick one of each (except CV.) But as for the ship I want to play on a particular day, depends on my mood. Am I patient enough to play a battleship? Careful enough to play a cruiser? Focused enough for a destroyer? Am I going to be a good shot (Warspite, etc) or should I just pray and spray? (Atlanta)? Usually I play some at lower tiers to decide. [FIFO] ilhilh [FIFO] Beta Tester 2,451 posts 7,514 battles Report post #24 Posted August 3, 2016 My original main focus was on the 2 BB lines but I also pushed up both (USN and IJN) CA lines and the the IJN CV/DD lines. This reflected my overall preference for BBs and views from CBT i.e. get the BBs but play all classes. Doing both CA lines was only ever going to go as far as the Cleve for USN and then the top for IJN. That already is 6 lines but changes in the meta have led to my plans being adapted. I played IJN CV to tier 7 and then paused. At the time the Hiryu was a beast (although the changes to TBs have affected it) but the top tier USN CVs were excellent. So, once I got to the Hiryu I elited it and started up the USN CV line. Currently at the Lex and still kind of enjoying it. I have now bought the Shokaku as well but I don't want to play too much CV so I think I will hop between lines until I have both at tier 10. On the DD front, IJN DDs always appeared better due to their superior torps but I was never very good with them (too impatient mainly). But, in the days where DDs became much more prevalent, gun boat DDs became a great option... and as the owner of a Gremyashchy I have learned the way of the gunboat... to an ok level. I already had the Fubuki at the point I started the USN DD line and now I have the Benson and the Fubuki is still a work in progress - the USN DD line is just more fun. As for the new nations... I haven't really touched them but this is because I don't want to start new CA lines when I haven't finished current ones. I think both the German and Russian CA lines look good but I need to get through the Mogami/Ibuki before I tackle either of them. The top tier RU DDs look good and with a 15 skill Gremy captain I get a nice start on the line but with 2 tier 8 DDs on the go I need to finish them before I start another. German BBs are about to arrive and that will be a big focus of mine. With a 15 skill captain on my Tirpitz I have another nice start to the line and as I said at the start... I love BBs As for picking ships on a day to day basis I try to do my 'grinds' but I also use my decent collection of premiums to both earn credits and escape from some of the more lacklustre ships (that could also read ships I am crap in). Texas, Tirpitz, Gremyashchy, Blyskawica and Saipan are all just fun to play (I also have Warspite and Atago but play them less). In fact, the large number of premiums I have has actually slowed my grinds down as I get distracted playing them too much but some, like the Blyskawica I try and focus on a lot in order to get to the 15 point captain that will make it a viable ranked option. My current grinds are the Lexington, Mogami, Fubuki, Benson and Pensacola (doesn't really count) but out of those the Benson is the most fun and the Lex I am happy to play until I get the daily bonus. The others I rarely touch outside of a division.
[ST-EU] Admiral_noodle Supertest Coordinator 6,337 posts 4,395 battles Report post #25 Posted August 3, 2016 Right now WG tell me what to play. But that's what I get for being a supertester. I like to mix it up. I'll go through my ships I need wins on. Then take a couple of premiums out. I usually start with a warm up game mid tier to get myself set then try the higher tiers. If that goes badly I'll then take imperator out for some vengeance. I can say that after testing German BBs all week I'm really missing cruiser play. I also need to get over myself and start playing US DDs.
