Useless, stupid smokescreen

So you're in a DD, approaching an enemy or cap and pop smoke. Your smokegenerator starts to work and pops smoke, AS LONG AS YOU'RE NOT IN SMOKE ! The consumable counts down the time that it's active, but it isn't, when you're in a smoke cloud. Who the [edited]made this up?

How is this supposed to work? It's not even tied to the ships speed anymore, so everytime you exit a smokecircle, you get spotted again, AND AFTER GETTING SPOTTED AGAIN, the next smokecloud pops up.

 

This way, the consumable should stop counting down, while not popping new smoke, otherwise smoke is no longer an ability that benefits DDs but only teammates.

 

I can no longer attempt to cap early in my Sims, because when i attack another DD, I will be permaspotted and get ripped apart by enemy CA, even when popping smoke.

 

Is this intentional?

You were supposed to drive full speed and benefit from smoke.

Drop your power and smoke will conceal you.

You know that it´s unrealistic if you disappear while moving in the smokescreen. why?

In reallife the smoke always is behind the ship because of course the smoke does not follow the ship it stays where it got deployed..

Also it would be op if not

@Christian: In reallife a smokegenerator is activated and pops smoke until it's deactivated. In WoWs a smokegenerator only generates smoke if the ship leaves the smoke, but the countdown goes on! This is [edited].  

 

@Malfuss: Sims is a premiumship, i bought it for cbt entrance....

reading comprehension of patchnotes is severely lacking here... take another look at the 5.8 notes, then think about them, then apply them, then stop whining because of your own failure to understand the mechanics. Problem solved.

That is not true. Sail slow enough and the new smoke pops before you leave the old smoke.

The only times I'm going full speed while deploying smoke is when I'm advancing towards the rear, or when I'm trying to lay a long cloud of smoke to cover my allies.

does not work since 0.5.5. Your Visibility point has to leave the old circle.

@Tyrendian: I don't care about patchnotes, when the "improved" mechanics just don't make sense. But thanks for the answer to my final question. I became a casual player after the latest "improvements" and don't read patchnotes anymore.

 

@Colonelpete: I've tried coming from behind an island an going 5knots, still the new smokecloud only pops when leaving the first one, so i get spotted.

 

@Anotherduck: That's the only way to use smoke while in visibility range, pop smoke, pull a long screen and turn around to get into smoke and then you remain unspotted.

I see, patchnotes 5.9. How can this crapsystem stay in this game for so long??

You are reading the questions of a wargamingcustomer, who is fed up with two games and a fail (WoP) being worsened (is this a word?) with every patch they receive. As you can see in the posts above, I am not the only one, who doesn't  unterstand Wargamings logics....

okay, but what really didn't make any sense is you saying you can't cap early....I'm capping early perfectly well in US DDs....if you don't want to be perma spotted then don't attack the enemy dd

really? I didn't know this.. I thought the smoke puffs were generated at some pre-set time intervals..

@ColonelPete: I tend to shoot at an enemy DD when it's spotted, so my visibilityrange raises. When enemy cruisers start shooting at me, i pop smoke to become invisible. Since 5.5 you can't.

It'S not worth to go over this again one day before it gets changed/fixed.

 

But some people did some actual testing in several threads after 0.5.5

OP is right but if it changes tomorrow all is fine.

 

Install smoke mode, you can clearly see that new smoke circle only pop out when you re out of previous circle.

I've been abscent for a while, but LilJumpa reminded me that it's like:

 

5.5

User: SA is broken!

WG: We dindu nuffin', man!

5.6

User: If SA works as intended, smoke is broken!

WG: We dindu nuffin', man! Works as intened!

5.7

User: There must be something wrong!

WG: We dindu nuffin', man! Works as intened! Cereal!

5.8

User: ...

WG: Great patch, cyclones and so on, works as intended!

5.9

WG: We're giving SA to everyone and "improving"  smoke, so every ship below 12,5knots will pop smoke continuously. Still everything works as intended!

 

I know why i went to play only casually....it's like WoT, there are no ghostshells. But I've got a replay...THERE ARE NO GHOSTSHELLS ! ! 11

No it is not like WoT. The communication actually works better here and Lesta fixes problems if they occur.

 

It may take some time and we still have the EU Forums- St.Petersburg developers  with 23 steps inbetween problem, but something happens.

 

The smoke story was a good example that it works and it just needed some effort from players, which is not that optimal.
