rant:

i've played about 1,145 games, never torped anyone before nor shot anyone out of rage. the only friendly dmg i give is when ships bump. Im an average player (my profile is public).

Anyway bad luck had me accidentally torp a friendly DD at around 8.5kms away (how he never turned or saw the torps is another thing)  my torp did 5500dmg and sunk him.

i was a bit surprised to see myself turn pink.

i've never been pink before but is suspect that pink players have reduced armor, shell velocity and damage. It really sucks to tell you the truth. plus i was kind of shocked.

I thought that 1 friendly in 1,145 games was a bit rough.

no. you torp anywhere your allies might go, you effed up big time and deserve to be pink. Behave, and it'll go away after a couple of matches.

yes true.  i effed up.

it was more that 5.5k dmg is enough to turn someone pink. i've been torped a few times by friendly's i hope they haven't all turned pink.

It works by either team killing or accumulation of damage so I believe. Someone maybe able to correct me there though.

when you are pink, any friendly damage is returned to you twofold. no other changes

ahh ok, in that case i'm not as worried. i probably just had a run of crappy games afterwards. thanks.

is there a way in stats to see how much team damage i've caused. i'd be very curious by it and by others.

Ive never been pink, despite once or twice torping a friendly. As long as you keep it to very rare occations and do lots of normal damage in your games, youll be fine.

Anyway bad luck had me accidentally torp a friendly DD at around 8.5kms away (how he never turned or saw the torps is another thing)  my torp did 5500dmg and sunk him.

Now here's the thing; he couldn't possibly have seen them. Well of course he could, but you can never expect it and it's always you who are responsible and should turn pink from a TK.

A bad player doesn't watch his surroundings and will run into friendly as well as enemy torps. The good players are focusing on a number of things, keeping track of enemy positions, predicting where they might come from or go to, finding opportunities for attacking and trying to predict where torps might be coming from. Especially if they were 8,5km closer to the enemy than you they were probably quite busy with real threats so that they don't - and they shouldn't have to - watch you in case you're torping or not and even when they get the torp warning they'll just decide in a nanosecond that since they're coming from behind they're either already past him or fired by a friendly who obviously isn't targeting them and has taken the precautions to fire safely.

And no, I've never turned pink but I have managed to TK friendlies and a few times I've been saved by friendlies who managed to save their lives despite my mistakes.

Nope I think going pink after one team kill is perfect, if your a cruiser torping then hopefully you'll learn to have more situational awareness as to your team mates positions, if your a DD then you'll hopefully move to the front line which is where you need to be most of the time.  Either way if a player tries to learn from their mistakes then they're likely to become a better asset to their team.

no we were both 4kms from the BB, one DD either side. it was quiet a nice setup. the BB died, and so did i. There was nothing around at the time as our sector was clear and it was near the end of the battle

WG reworked the friendly fire system some paches ago.

You will turn pink immediately after you sunk a friendly ship even if its only 1point of dmg and after 5 aimed salvoes to the same friend(but dont know the number for sure)

So the enemy BB was between you and your team mate? If he was 8.5k from you it must have been pretty much a straight line?

If that's the case, you fired torps towards a friendly, Yes he should probably have known and in a DD should have avoided them. But surely you shouldn't fire torps at an enemy with a friendly behind it.

from the change in the mechanics you will turn pink now, several time it seems. i have NEVER teamkilled before. I was on the front line, it was a BB doing a split.

ChocoSmith - you will see lots and lots of pinkies in game now, especially at weekends. Keep battling and dish out the damage to the enemy and the pink will soon disappear.

Damage counts also. Remember once, when i shot at friendly baltimore in revenge for 12k dmg. Turned pink immediately. 5 games later no pink.

If it is by accident then it sucks, it is the ones who do it on purpose and get away with it that should get sanctioned. I had a Montana fire all his aft guns at me as he sailed by my Kutuzov at the start of a battle because I was waiting for him to get ahead before I escorted. After shaving off 1/2 of my HP, he says 'problem?' in chat but didn't turn pink. Needles to say I didn't escort him, he sucked and died and we lost.

You are correct, sinking an ally automatically causes one to be marked a teamkiller.

Cheers,

Well, most murderers have never killed before, does that mean their crime was any less severe than someone who has killed before? At least you had the balls to man up and say it was your fault, I believe it only lasts 5 games, just keep your head down and play on.

I've heard you don't turn pink in the very rare occasion that you sink a friendly ship by ramming though. I've had that happen to me once, which is the only time I've seen it, but that was before the change in pink rules.

ChocoSmith iv never Teamkilled anyone. I go by one rule when using torps: TREAT EVERYONE AS IDIOTS and you should do fine
