Skybuck's X-Files 003: Torpedo travels under mutsuki ?!?

Hello,

In one of my games the player "X-Rambo" spotted some strange, something odd, he mentioned it, chatted it on the comments. I have seen other threads mentioning torpedoes going through ships. Usually it is dismissed as a de-sync issue. I have also seen one thread mentioning that a torpedo could go under a ship.

Well in this game, it could not have been a de-sync issue, because another player saw it too !

So what's going on ?! To me it seems the torpedo is actually going UNDER the mutsuki and coming out at the other side ?! Do you believe it yourself ?! Check out the video !:

Another Skybuck's X-FILES !!!!!! 003:

(720 version seems to play)

Let me know your thoughts on this remarkable discovery/instance ! More might follow I have potentially one more such replay ! :) Where I actually spotted this myself too ! Since 0.5.8.0 !

A couple of games earlier, I noticed this myself too, I just inspected the replay and also made another view of it ! This time it did cost me the game however, so I am not too happy about this occuring.

Perhaps the "rudder and gear and stuff" has no "hit-box-detection for torpedoes" ?!?!

Consider this Skybuck's X-Files 003.1, an addition to this X-File ! ;) =D (Straight from the master himself ! ;) =D :P:))

(Uploading and processing).

(Also, since these incidents with hard proof, and also bomb testing against bots, I have started advising my team to defend my CV against DD. Cruisers can kill DDs a bit easier than my bombs and torpedoes can, so far it has had some success yesterday ! ;) :))

Since torps in game have a contact mechanic - they shoudl bouce off in that angle anyway

Torps do not bounce ingame.

As I asked on my thread, and which you commented on SkyBuckFlying, torps passing under the stern of a ship near the props and rudder.

There is nothing unusual, its the torp passing under the shallowest part of the ship model. Good on WG for giving us accurate(ish) 3D models.

No. Even the slightest contact, regardless of the warhead or the propellor, detonates the torp in my experience. Those fantastic YT movies I see when torps seems to scrape the keels of the ship somehow never happen to me: always a torphit. I'm completely baffled by this movies. Never ever had such an experience. It almost seems my (still to be tweaked) method of "jumping over torpedo's or just ignore them" is actually working! ((-:

I posted the above, because in free cam view I saw for the first time a torp pass under the stern of a ship. It's not that uncommon apparently and there are some screen shots of further examples.

it could be:

1 desync issue

2 some ships have less deep parts. Thus the torpedo making no connection to the ship. Torpedoes go underwater not at surface you know

This is just an example how detailed ships are in wows

Edit: the second one shows that your torp didnt hit any part of sims(passed through without touching) also dont slow it down that much i was bored at 2x speed to your second video

Didn't the new improved models for some of the ships actually make this more likely to happen?

In any case, this is nothing unusual and has been possible for a long time.

Desync. In Wows torps are represented as points with no depth set,  like floating on the surface.

Thats not true. Thats completly opposite of true. In fact if someone needed to know what misinforming would be like we would show this.

Edit link to replay please.

? Maybe video was still uploading/processing ? Is it ok now ? (Didn't change anything).

Perhaps you ment a seperate link ? Instead of an embedded video ? In that case just double click on the video or click on "youtube" and that should take you there ! ;)

Hmmm this is somewhat disturbing, if it was this thread and I think it was:

http://forum.worldofwarships.eu/index.php?/topic/55905-torpedo-arming-and-hits/page__p__1141313#entry1141313

Svietlana is not a destroyer and thus a bigger ship ?! Hmmmmm....

*Update*:

I have an alternative explanation of what might be going on, not sure about this, I could be delirious but here goes:

I think I notice how my carrier was moving faster after it got bombed in a bot game. So the hypothesis is:

The destroyers become "lighter" after having "stuff" bombed off and thus they are higher up in the water, which allows the torpedo to go under it better ?!?

Take it with a grain of salt for now ! ;) :)

Unfortunately it's not possible to dive under water anymore, so we can't really be sure if it touched or did not touch... it could have passed through some hull without us noticing it.

Re plays do show they missed but your fps is showing some weired numbers, have you edited your engine_config_xm file at some point as it looks like a server/host sync issue to me.

This must be a bug... not a desync or whatever you want to call it... its like the damage model and the visual model dont match each other (the damage model seem to be several meters foward then the visual model)

I started watching this "events" as well since 0.5.8 went live...  torps started to go through the aft of ships without hitting, just plain going through one side of ship and coming out the other side and kept going...

Then before you tell me it was the torpedo passing through between propelers cause of awesome new 3d models I also got a game where 2 ships aft's "rammed" each other and what happened was they merged without hitting each other... both ships aft's were "merged" occupying same space without any collision whatsoever...

And today I just saw 2 BB's going bow in to each other to ram and long before they actually hit each other they both died... to ramming... as if the damage model collided despite the visual model saying you could fit a DD sideways between both of them still...

So after 0.5.8 I started to have desyncs every game with all ships in that game?

Cause it a lot easier to believe someone f**** up the models then to believe everyone now began to have desyncs...

Either way 0.5.8 did broke something...

Anyway, yeah I know everyone can have desyncs... only normally they happen till client catches up with server...

And in game when it happens it feels all ships are not where they are shown but couple meters foward and during the entire game (not just a fraction where you happened to shoot torps)
