I mean, The secondaries cannot kill a DD fast enough unless the DD is dawdling around or on low hp. Meanwhile, a good Bismarck could survive such an encounter anyway, given Bismarck has hydro and after it dodges the torps, your DD is basically just a minor annoyance

So why the buff?

Because they can now deal with dumb DDs, cruisers inside the range and BBs in brawls. There are more ship types than DDs that a BB will engage.

They don't need it. It's just a moi aussi buff because of all the other secondary build ships that they've pushed out recently.

You do realise that French and US (the couple secondary focused) BBs cannot damage high tier BB hulls with secondaries, right? Germans are the only ones that can, if they spec IFHE. And for other ship types, german BBs don't need IFHE at all, giving them a clear advantage over say Georgia in that you can spec Fire Prevention on top of what she can have.

Fact is german BBs were falling behind the curve rather badly. Soviet BBs are kinda better in all that matters (main guns and armor when angled) while the likes of Massachussetts just did secondaries far better. Now germans are almost back where they should be as if all the close range powercreep didn't happen. Question is whether it is enough, given the CV meta where any close range fighting is futile...

They really buffed the LOLbert... really..

I was in a division with my friends a couple days ago..

I was creating a rainbow onto a stalingrad.. and said, This ship needs a survivability buff..

I was joking... But I guess RNGesus heard me!! they buffed the LOLbert!! really!!!

Oh yeah on the other hand,

Range nerf, didn't do much on smolensk!

But anybody who dares to touch her again! I will be there to smack them!

Smolensk... she is so beautiful!! so elegant! so deadly! but beautiful!

Yeah I care.. because even though I love every second of my play both in LOLbert and Smokensk (intended)
I won't be playing only them, and there will be enemies with them against me in the future..

so... yeah.. that is important :)

Seems like Benham is in the finial state as today it was announced a ship which players would be able to buy in the next update if they get 800 fuel tokens (out of 850 which could be get for free). And it looks quite strong, in competent hands of course.

I wouldn't be surprised if Smolensk ends as Steel ship as she does fit among those by its current state. And them it probably overperforming stats will be explained as "only good players are playing with it". Between Smolensk and Colbert I would say that Smolensk would be way easier to balance but also as more chances to ends as OP ships if not properly balanced. Wonder which way it would go from its current state but as being another Glorious Soviet ship I expect it would probably go toward letter. I hope I'm wrong.

Wait what, they seriously intend to release Benham as is? And freely available ingame for grinding missions?

That is very fishy. Either there is some nerf we are not aware of or those missions are gonna be very hard. As it is, Benham (and Somers - but that one is getting a torp reload nerf) is a torpedo soup extraordinaire. It basically outdoes any and all torpedo DDs ingame.

The main reward in exchange for 800 tokens is:

U.S. destroyer  IX Benham with a unique post-apocalyptic camouflage, Commander Dr. Ecraseur with 10 skill points, and a commemorative flag—"U.S.S. Benham."

No it is not nerfed

Quote

Main specifications of the ship:

  • Four 127 mm guns. Firing range—12.6 km; reload time—3.3 seconds; and 180-degree traverse time of her guns—6 seconds. These characteristics are quite decent, but the small number of guns mean that artillery isn’t her best asset.
  • Sixteen torpedoes. Range—10.5 km; speed—65 knots; and damage—15,200 HP. Rapid-reload capabilities, taking just 85 seconds. Her broadside torpedo tube mount is a noteworthy and rather unusual feature for high-tier destroyers.
  • Low detectability by sea—5.9 km (with upgrade, skills, and camo employed) and the American Smoke Generator, the smoke screens of which disperse after more than two minutes.
  • The Engine Boost or Defensive AA Fire consumables are available in slot 3.

Eh...

Don't know how to feel about that. I think it is too strong. Then again, if it really ends up being reachable by anyone willing to put some effort (understand: time) into the game, it's not as bad as it being sold in the premium shop of for steel.

But that's another thing. Will they really give a strong (at very least) T9 premium ship so freely? I cannot believe that after PEF and DoY christmas events.

I fully expect the event to be a grind in the arse.

I'm also disappointed the Benham looks like it's gated behind said grind. I had expected it to be the next free XP ship, especially after WG has stated a couples times now they got a free XP destroyer in the works. Has that changed @MrConway, @Crysantos?

Looks like an iron hard grind to me. But we will get two destroyers, permanent Camouflage...

Will see if it is doable or to much like WoT Marathons.

Oh yeah, still waiting for a FreeXP or even coal DD as well.

Was very disappointed with Neustrashimy becoming another Steel DD.

They might be a bit worried about new Steampunk game mode dying on its backside if it doesn't have a big big prize attached to it.

Nah, all the special game modes had plenty participants. And there will be no CVs in it either.

It's usually great from grinding whatever you need. Now I grant you the "special" camos they come up with for halloween/space/apocalypse/whatever are awful and I'd be extremely happy if I could disable them while still using their bonuses on my ships. (No way am I looking at the Halloween camo on my Kagero, even though I'd love to use a permacamo on it, for example. Another example for quite some people is the Roma beercan camouflage. You'd want the great economic bonuses, but that beercan...)

Yea it would be great if there was a function that lets you display special event cammos as regular premium cammos.

Absolutely, that would be awesome.

So many camos would get opened up for use then, including the dozen or so given for free for US and french CAs during the april space event.

Indeed, but maybe there's at least a mod for that?

I am sure you can buy her for a "favorable price" (70-80€? :Smile_sceptic:) or some super duper packages for above 100€ in some weeks/months. Was interested in the ship too but i won't grind my arse off or buy some silly gamble containers. :cap_cool:

Wouldn't happen, as they sit alongside the special camos which can be bought for doubloons.
