My memory might fail me but there was DFAA since Alpha. The problem was mainly that AA was way weaker on those days so the only way to reliably wipe out an enemy CV strike was with overlapping AA bubbles instead of nowadays when a single AA specced BB can stop it. Then, when OBT finally kicked off, the AA values were buffed, then buffed again and finally the focus of high damage AA went from mid range AA to long range AA

At least for me that even wasn't what stopped me from playing CVs. Never was a great CV player, but also not an utterly bad one - solo winrates of 59 to 69% up toT7 aren't THAT bad - and it wasn't even the change in torpedo drops. For me it was the addition of strafing that killed the fun of playing CV. I just wasn't ever able to manage a single good strafing attack. Hammer & Anvil Torpedo drops were easy-peasy, but hitting that damn key at the exact time needed to do a proper strafe always evaded me...

So I'm stuck to play my two left T4 CVs whenever a mission for them comes up. But only then, as using them makes me feel dirtier than using my Kamikaze with the 19pt captain to club some seals. :cap_haloween:

Nonetheless I expect WG to utterly [edited]up the CV rework. And the attempts to get it working somehow... because WG just can't into CV.

We can expect rocket armed aircrafts.

Fleet Air Arm Typhoons with unguided rockets... at least the plane existed with that armament maybe not a navel version of the fighter though...

Sea Fury. Also Sea Hurricanes and Seafires (naval Spitfire)

Brits had loads of weird and wonderful naval aircraft, including torpedo-fighters and torpedo-dive bombers. And pretty much everything has rockets.

The RN wasn't a good choice for rockets...

Sure they made extensive use of them, but they weren't big enough to take on larger warships like the ones we see ingame.
Having anti merchant ship, DDE and submarine weapons in a game where to most numerous class you'll see in a given battle is a battleship is odd...
There's no real scaling for the game. Nothing to help rockets stay relevant past mid tier.

The only country that could have used rockets is the USN, and even then there's a hugh scaling issue since you jump from small rockets made to destroy small ships to larger ship killers, precursors to anti ship cruise missiles.

You guys give them more ideas, and someone at WG is bound to ask themselves...

"You know, we like to screw around with what-if ship hulls, so why don't we add P-700 Granit missile containers ...for the Bogatyr?"

Unless ofc they can reliably set fires.

Just imagine, one pinpoint rocket attack = four fires on a BB.

10/10 would support. :Smile_trollface:

They have about as much explosive filler as 5" shells, so I wouldn't bet on it that much.

The way I see it, either they uber buff rockets so they have the same effectiveness as 100kg bombs at the risk of shitting all over DDs and do nothing but set fires and deal light superstructure damage to bigger ships , or they're effectively worthless.

That, and the distinct risk of "top kek your ship was just hit by an unavoidable torpedo" Tiny Tim, if rockets make their way to the Essex and Midway, again shitting all over DDs and this time cruisers as well with 60kg of explosives going off inside the ship.

Useless, overpowered or overbuffed to the point of having the same effect as Japanese 500kg bombs.

Meh, I remain highly skeptical.

Especially with the rather light RN rockets, inadapted at fighting capital ships, let alone heavy cruisers.

Well tbh irl composition of the explosives has way more to do with fire chance then the mass

Beaufighters and Mosquitos with those rockets hunting along the coastlines terrorised German shipping and warships alike, sinking multiple U-Boats, small merchant vessels and at least one mineweeper.

You've got a 60lb HE warhead which is roughly equivalent to a 152mm HE shell, 8 rockets per plane, decent accuracy and no way for a target to dodge what is basically a strafing run. I wouldn't expect rockets to outright sink a cruiser but they would absolutely trash destroyers.

But why would Wargaming want to make life even more difficult for destroyers?

And a voice whispers in my ear "because battleship players don't like destroyers"

No, that's the weight of a 5" shell.

And since you won't hit everything, you essentially have a dozen 5" shells hitting your target.

Very meh for a strike run that takes minutes to coordinate.

I mean, there already is a RN rocket in the game and it certainly is not behaving in a realistic manner...

Datamined info from the client with some graphics as to the Yorck changes. Not only was the air drag improved, the AP shells also became heavier.

With these changes Yorck will have probably the best behaving guns among T7 cruisers. I'm going to buy a permanent camo for the ship when the patch drops.

WTF? Oshiro Project Collab out of nowhere or what is this? Like, what? I'm surprised I even know of that game.

Yorck seems alright though. Hard hitting.

Good news!  Yorck was the "problem child" for me in the German cruiser line.

I like these buffs. I still have a 10-point captain in Yorck. Time to take the ship out of mothballs!

Or the carrier player has to "switch ammunition" since those rockets are not designed for anti-capital ship work; that's what the torpedoes and bombs are for. Use the rocket planes for Destroyer hunting, with a secondary purpose of a small chance of fire and module damage on a larger ship. Use the bombs or torpedoes on the larger ships, with a secondary purpose that if need be you can make a run on a DD with a small chance of success.

With the new system where the next squadron becomes available when all planes of the present squadron have dropped or the "F" key is pressed (like with single fire torpedo launchers, to "reload") it probably won't take that long between strike runs... if nothing else as since there's no scouting and multi-tasking and nothing else for the player to be doing in the meantime they can't have too long a delay before the player can start his next lot of attacking. And if you essentially have a dozen 5" shells hitting a destroyer then that's essentially a good salvo or two from an Atlanta, which can ruin someone's day.

I don't know. I didn't even know what kind of gameplay the game had. I have no clue what they want to do. It's a surprise they seemingly cooperated on this. I must say though, I don't expect them to be sold for money. The appeal to buy two captains from some obscure game that has a niche following is nonexistent. If they ask 10 Euro for those like they did with Haifuri and Azur Lane, I think they need to lay off the beer in Prague.

Also, this has nothing at all to do with ships, unlike all other weeb collabs so far.
