WG and the quest for gimmicks pt 74:

Radar DD line

Now featuring such gimmicks as: Torps that can't hit DDs but supposedly are far more stealthy (than Japanese)

Strong freedom guns (better than Japanese)
Better concealment (than Japanese)

American smoke on high tiers (which is.. I think you get the point)
And now: radar

All of this to create the ultimate c***er and make DD players even more frustrated!

After the GZ debacle it was proven that no devs actually play CV that much

Now I am starting to wonder if they ever play DDs...

Radar on DD's huh, i dont mind Black having it, that ship is one rare sight but this, a line with radar DD's

But... but... deep water torpedoes cannot counter smoke so the PA DDs definitely need both radar and US smoke duration.

 

Who needs a line with weaknesses anyway? It's not like the Z-52 will be rendered obsolete or anything with these new features...

Hsien Yang, Chung Mu, and Hsiang Yang
Gain surveillance radar consumable on slot 3 (engine boost). This new variant has fixed detection range at 7.5 km, and last 10 seconds, 12 seconds, and 15 seconds for Tier 8, Tier 9, and Tier 10, respectively. (For comparison, Black's surveillance radar has a detection range of 7.5 km and last 20 seconds.)

I am tired of writing long posts about WG's glorious (sarcasm!) ideas and why they are so freaking glorious (sarcasm!).

So I will just state a big fat 'NO!' to more radar destroyers.

In my opinion this is a destroyer nerf.

edit

MAYBE it could work if it would sit in the smoke slot.

No ship in game should have access to both smoke and radar. Belfast should've been banned from the shop long ago. And hydro and radar should be cruiser only. The fact that they even consider it to DDs (and now silver DDs even) really makes me doubt if the developers actually play this game on a regular base.

And of course we especially should do this to the least relevant DD line, because reasons.

Depends on the concealment and the general firepower of the top-tier destroyers. If they can use radar for early damage (by team mates) and then finish their unfortunate target without problems later, the lack of smoke won't make that much of a difference. If carriers were more popular, maybe, but as things are now? Who will spot you (other radar users aside as that applies to all DDs) when you neutralise the opposing destroyer with relative ease?

 

As I wrote earlier, these things may end up like Z-52 but without the range/concealment disadvantage.

Nah there is one reason and one reason only:

 

They want to force us to play a line nobody wants. Yet again. They make that line OP with silly radar gimmicks and more players for the made-up ships. 

 

I will not play that line no matter what cr@p they throw at it.

Same, especially since it's not a line of ships that had an impact on history.

It feels like WG has run out of ideas for the ship lines and is trying to cover everything with gimmicks.

Didnt I get the news. RADAR? on an entire frigging DD line?? And better concealment than other dds too???

Might be the final nail in the coffin. I'm already moving away from playing DDs except for ranked. They should nerf HE on cruisers too and remove TB from CVs. Then BBs can finally have their own game!

Couldn't agree more.

 

On a more serious note. Why not give the panasian DDs the old 20 km Shima torps? The ones from before the detection nerfs (but only 2x5 launchers).

Before the screams come in consider: they actually will be able to HIT bbs from far away. These days it is almost impossible to get into torp range for BBs (gearing exempted).

Wait... what use are suicide deepwater torps? They expect DD's to charge BB's with them? Or am I mistaken and is that a tier 2 torpedo for a DD with 5km concealment?

Wow they seem to really have to force that line of DDs on players. :Smile_facepalm: Well, I will just stop playing DDs then which I have gotten to like quite a lot lately. :Smile_sad: Need to grind MEGAZAO anyway.

I'd only support radar on destroyers if it had 2 charges (premium) and around a 3 minute+ cool down

Range and distance seem reasonable but if deep water torps will only hit BB's and some cruisers then they may need some anti DD capability.

The more changes they make to these PA DDs the less I want to play them and I might just pass on the whole line at this point anyway.
