And tier 9 is the best "big Friedrich" tier 9 means friedrich the great

[PONYD] GrossadmiralThrawn Players 4,995 posts 4,960 battles Report post #6 Posted July 6, 2016 (edited) tier 9 means friedrich the great yep... "Friedrich der Große" = Friedrich the Great... like in Carouls Magnus... Charlemagne... Karl der Große/Charles the Great also: Großer Kurfürst means "Great elector" not big(ger), this guy, Alter Fritz' Great grandfather https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frederick_William,_Elector_of_Brandenburg (also had a König-class named after him) but tbh i think Tier X should've been Friedrich and Tier IX should've been Kurfürst btw from what i've read it seems the Tier X will have 4 3x Turrets... which is rather strange since the only german BBs ever mounting 3x turrets were the Scharn and Gneisenau because the 38 twins werent ready.. i think they simply didnt want to buff anything in regards of dispersion, penetration or whatever Edited July 6, 2016 by GrossadmiralThrawn
fnord_disc Beta Tester 2,119 posts 5,245 battles Report post #7 Posted July 6, 2016 Good ship names for the H class. Plausible. Would have swapped them to make Frederick T10, but it's fine. Gonna love the crapout of Bayern.

Zogash85 Beta Tester 516 posts 4,160 battles Report post #11 Posted July 6, 2016 (edited) Would have seen a "Großdeutschland" for the T-X. Yeah... "Großer Kurfürst" is incredibly un-WW2-ish, especially for a super battleship. "Friedrich der Große" (Frederick the Great) is fine, but there are many more fitting names they could have gone with for the T-X. [SPUDS] Unintentional_submarine [SPUDS] Beta Tester 4,052 posts 8,765 battles Report post #12 Posted July 6, 2016 So they abandoned the Grossdeutschland for T10. Still odd to see Grosser Kurfürst as T10 over Friedrich der Grosse... A reverse of the names would be fitting. Overall the line brings no surprises other than the names of the two H ships. Everything else is as expected.

"Friedrich der Große" (Frederick the Great) is fine, but there are many more fitting names they could have gone with for the T-X. like Großdeutschland... Hitler feared the propaganda distaster a sinking of a ship with germanys name would bring (hence renaming of the Heavy Cruiser Deutschland)... no BB would've been named "Großdeutschland"... his own suggestions were Götz von BErlichingen (should've had his most famous words on the ship then... er kann mich am ar... lecken/he can kiss my ar.. hehehe) or someone else... but imho really Tier X should've been Friedrich der Große and IX Großer Kurfürst That's whhy I don't like german language. insert Götz von Berlichingens famous words here Edited July 6, 2016 by GrossadmiralThrawn
fnord_disc Beta Tester 2,119 posts 5,245 battles Report post #15 Posted July 6, 2016 To reiterate, Großdeutschland is an implausible name for a battleship because Hitler was obsessed with the propaganda impact it would have if something called -deutschland sank. That's why he had the pocket battleship renamed to Lützow.
Masterrix Alpha Tester 356 posts 2,656 battles Report post #16 Posted July 6, 2016 poor H41... WGN fantasy-enthusiasts are raping her with tripple-gun turrets......1 billion yards away of any historical context, including german design philosophy for BBs ...... and why ? because of balancing ? why doesnt WGN buff the historically planned 4x2 setup with better RoF, dispersion ? they have completely replaced the planned gunnery by a poor fantasy setup, that is in radical contrast to the german bettleship design philosophy. No single german H-class BB was ever planned with guns like these. And the germans always followed the 4x2 setup, because it was their philosophy. even Scharnhorst was only mounted with smaller 3x11" because the 2x15" werent rdy.. so ,pls WGN, dont tell me that u had no other choice because of balancing, there are so many "soft stats" u could have used to balance the guns/the ship for T10 thats just a shame

For sure sounds better (though I am neither German nor do I speak it ). I guess its the political correctness issue, i.e. its sounds like "Greater Germany" which again sounds quite a bit like "Greater Germanic Reich"

[PONYD] GrossadmiralThrawn Players 4,995 posts 4,960 battles Report post #21 Posted July 6, 2016 For sure sounds better (though I am neither German nor do I speak it ). I guess its the political correctness issue, i.e. its sounds like "Greater Germany" which again sounds quite a bit like "Greater Germanic Reich" The ships neither received names nor were official name proposals published. The names, which appear in several publications (Hindenburg, Friedrich der Große, Großdeutschland) are pure speculation. Especially the often mentioned Großdeutschland (= "Greater Germany") is highly unlikely, as Hitler always feared the loss of a vessel with name of Germany (compare the renaming of Deutschland to Lützow).[13]The only hint on the names of the units were given by Hitler himself, who mentioned during documented unofficial talks, that he would propose the names Ulrich von Hutten and Götz von Berlichingen for the ships, as these names are not connected with persons of the third Reich or the country itself, so the loss would not have a significant negative psychological and propaganda effect on the German people.[13][14] this is the main reason why many users were and are against Großdeutschland

That being said, from playing perspective, I would always prefer 2x3 frontal turrets than 2x2 no matter any WG buffs (which are never that great to compensate 2 shells less)
