    • No. I can't play and I'm afraid to try novelty ships, because I don't want a fun game.

I'm sure you've all heard the legend of the so called "pocket battleships". ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deutschland-class_cruiser ) How about seeing them in the game?

In reality, they were reported to have an impressive rate of fire and seeing as how they were relatively small (for a BB) and relatively modern (considering the average age of the games ships), they could be the most maneuverable little BBs. Now obviously they were officially cruisers, so the ship should be a cruiser in the game as well. Also the reason why this thread is in the cruiser forum. If only the game would distinguish battlecruisers.

It would be most fitting for battles where the number of BBs would be uneven.

Oh and before you go off calling me some kind of a fool, I'm well aware that it would be a relatively awkward ship - not quite a BB, but clearly mightier than a cruiser too. It's suppose to be a novelty ship that does in higher tiers what the Mikasa does in lower tiers.

Why would you want all ships to be even and predictable? Let's spice things up with more unusual designs!

Wow, what a new and innovative suggestion. Wonder why nobody made a thread about this ship.... yesterday.

Didn't the 28cm C/28's have around 2.5rpm? With rather poor AP ammo?

Also, "officially they were cruisers." Wasn't "pocket battleship" a name invented by the Royal Navy? If memory serves, the germans called them a "schwerer kreuzer".

80mm belt would put it just above Pensacola in armour.

they were very accurate though, so much so the British government had the uruguay government purchase the salvage rights so they could get there hands on the targeting equipment

I'd wondered about the Deutschlands. In some ways the novelty value would make them good premium ships; on the other hand, they would be awkward to classify and rate. Although, on paper, a clever design, the real-life vessels somewhat fell between two stools and I can imagine a similar issue with in-game versions. Would be interesting, though.

Not even the Royal Navy. It was coined by the press as they had a hard time explaining the class' capabilities using regular naming and apparently stuck in the general public afterwards. RN might have used the term when talking to the public in the press, but I'm pretty sure that officially RN considered them heavy cruisers.

The Bismarck class also had accurate guns IRL but look at Tirpitz in game. Accurate guns IRL doesn't mean that they will also be in game.

Ah, my mistake then. Thanks!

Would be an interesting ship to see in game. It's well known, so it should enter the game at some point. I'll wonder what WG thinks of it do, as they don't really like guns that are quite a big bigger then 8" on kruzers.

I don't really care if it becomes premium or regular. Or actually, the best play by WG would be to introduce a regular + a premium version. The class features multiple ships anyway.

Also, I like how the 'no' option in the poll is totally unbiased.

I would dearly love to have a Deutschland class, no doubt about it. But I fear it could be quite difficult to play. A bit like the Atlanta, from the point of view of it being a specialist. In the wrong hands, on the wrong map, with the wrong team, a liability. You would have to play a hybrid-brawler sort of game play I think, as the deck armour wasnt that great, but you would need support to do that. But with only two turrets, you would have to be careful. But having said all that, if you played it right, it could be a real cruiser killer.

To be perfectly honest, I expected the Deutschland-class to be a high tier, in the german cruiser line (like 8 or 9). As a BB i can only see this class at tier 4 or 5, with a reload of around 26 secs.

@atlasapl The Cleveland is an undercover tier 8.

There is absolutely no chance it will be 8 or 9, it would be totally out of its depth at that level. 11" guns or not, your looking at 6/7, when you look at its armour protection layout of 80mm belt, with 17 to 45mm deck. Compare to say, a Cleveland (tier 6), 83-127mm belt, 51mm deck. They are only basic thickness' I grant you, but you see the issue. Its never going to cope at 8 or 9. Plus, I am guessing the Prinz Eugen will be a tier 8 premium at some point.
