[BAD-F] Sams_Baneblade Beta Tester, Players 299 posts 10,751 battles Report post #1 Posted July 1, 2016 (edited) Hello guys I've just seen the Ishizuchi will be at half price tomorrow and I'd like to get your advice about it. I already know about its strenghts and weaknesses, but I don't know yet how to master it or how does it statistically behaves. . So, according to you, would it worth the 1250 doubloons? Or should I save my precious premium currency (7.000) and wait for other ships to appear in the in-game shop in the future? Thanks in advance -I collect prem ships, although not in an excessive way. -I have 7.000 doubloons rotting in my port for a while. -I already own the Warspite, Mursmansk, etc. The only prem ships buyable in-game that I don't own yet are the Marblehead and the Ishi. I also own the Molotov, Texas, Kamikaze, Sims and Arkansas. Edited July 1, 2016 by Sams_Baneblade

[FATAL] krazypenguin Beta Tester 573 posts 2,930 battles Report post #6 Posted July 1, 2016 As a tier 4 she makes somewhat reasonable credits and XP and I think she's a decent enough ship in her own way. Mainly though, I think she's a lot of fun to play and also very relaxing and stress free. Simply load HE and, unless you get a very obvious AP target (a broadside cruiser at 5-6km or less), stick with it because a) her AP is weak and b) burning things is funny. Burn everything with your 30% chance to cause a fire. Use your high speed to run away when the return fire get too hot, then repair your damage and get back into the fight. You can pick up dreadnought and fire proof medals in her relatively easily. The only really negative thing that I can think of is that she has very poor AA so has to be wary of enemy aircraft. This is compounded by her generally poor agility - whilst she is fast and can execute an initial turn reasonably quickly, once you commit to a turn that's it - she's very slow to reverse course. This poor AA and agility makes enemy aircraft particularly dangerous, especially massed attacks and also means that she can be vulnerable against an aggressive torpedo attack by DDs - however her ability to shotgun DDs that get too close is very strong and also a lot of fun. If there's an enemy carrier I will almost always ask for either fighter cover or an AA cruiser to accompany me. So... not the strongest ship, but relaxing and stress free fun to play. Definitely worth every penny if you're getting her for 50% off. Edit - just wanted to say that I disagree with the review in the link in the post above. The reviewer compares the Ishi to the Kawachi and Myogi which is, IMO, wrong - those 2 ships are just terrible and, whilst she is not at the exact same level, I think the Ishi is more comparable to the Fuso than either of those 2 ships. She's really not THAT bad!!!
[GMT] Phlogistoned Players 779 posts Report post #7 Posted July 1, 2016 Read LittleWhiteMouse's Review, and I agree. Even to the point with 'If you like Myogi, you'll like Ishizuchi.' I still have my Myogi in port with her (rather highly skilled for T4) captain on it.
[UNICS] Nechrom Beta Tester 4,870 posts 10,112 battles Report post #8 Posted July 1, 2016 I like her. She's definitely not your average BB and is suited more towards cruiser support and exploiting weak enemy flanks due to her speed. Her fast turret rotation speed and the fact that you'll always have HE loaded makes her a nightmare for DDs who mistakes her for an easy target. Also, 32% burn chance (without captain skill) with 10 guns @ 25 sec reload, is nothing to sneeze at.

Akula971 Beta Tester 1,059 posts 14,838 battles Report post #12 Posted July 2, 2016 At tier 4, the games are a bit chaotic with lots of newbies which can be good and bad depending upon how they play on your team. I would disagree with previous posters saying that always load HE, as she is a cruiser killer and as such AP is your choice for citadel hits and cruiser deletion. HE is fine for well angled enemy BBs. Her speed is good, but just because you can go fast does mean you should, plays as a support ship to real BBs, stay behind them, and you'll be fine. [-OOF-] ollonborre Beta Tester 2,598 posts 12,758 battles Report post #13 Posted July 2, 2016 I say get it. Mainly because it's going to be very cheap, but also because it can actually make a suprising amount of credits due to low service cost and special MM. Focus cruisers with AP and fire your powerful HE shells at everything else and you have a pretty fun and effective ship.

Mucker Players 842 posts 8,403 battles Report post #18 Posted July 2, 2016 At 50% off it's a no brainer. She is not the strongest ship at t4, but offers a unique play style an has a limited MM. Beware of CVs though, nonexistent AA makes you the prime target.

[BABBY] StringWitch Beta Tester 1,608 posts Report post #22 Posted July 2, 2016 Someone else said once that Ishizuchi's AP has similar performance to Japanese 8" guns, so use it when you'd fire AP from Furutaka, et al. Otherwise, you have HE damage similar to 16" guns. I did for a long time mostly use AP, but the HE often does more damage against anything with armour unless you get a good shot. Post-buff Ishizuchi is a solid performer against ships, especially cocky tier 5 cruisers, but carriers are another problem entirely, and very common at tier 4. Judging from the difference in my experiences of aircraft attacks in Arkansas and Ishizuchi, I can tell you CVs pretty much just go for the first BB they see, not the one with weak AA. Ishizuchi's massive length relative to her width gives her a large turning circle which makes torpedo evasion more difficult, and her overall size makes her highly visible (16.6km base surface detection), so she is often focussed by carriers and there's very little she can do about it. Huddle up to the rest of the fleet at the start of a carrier battle and advance with them until the fighting is underway, especially if you get the northmost Solomon Islands spawn on your team. If there are no carriers, you can enjoy being the vanguard against destroyers and generally get up to the sorts of things that battlecruisers were historically designed for. [BABBY] StringWitch Beta Tester 1,608 posts Report post #24 Posted July 3, 2016 The AP has a lot more power than the Japanese 8" guns. Do not underestimate it. I should probably clarify that this is someone who has looked in the game files (or found a list compiled by someone else) and specifically said the guns had similar penetration values. Of course Ishizuchi's larger shells are going to retain more penetration at range, and overmatch higher armour thicknesses. They are better, but there's not a lot in it (especially considering differences in the guns' dispersion) and situations for their effective use are largely the same as the IJN CAs. [DUDES] Schueck Players 6 posts 32,332 battles Report post #25 Posted July 3, 2016 (edited) On those tiers a low BB-caliber AP penetration and low MV might actually be an advantage. Cruisers have mostly either thin armor and/or a near un-citadellable turtledeck, and you get less overpens on BB superstructures. In my experience Sushi's AP works well against T4/T5 cruisers, BBs that are not highly angled and St.Louis. Just dont try to citadel BBs, except maybe South Carolinas. Flamu has a video showing effective AP use on a Sushi. Edited July 3, 2016 by Schueck
