TopCatDK Beta Tester 2 posts 248 battles Report post #1 Posted June 30, 2016 Was considering buying the Sims in the closed beta, and now it´s on sale again. Is it worth it? I´m trying to level up in the US DD´s and could use a prem 'ium ship in that line..
mtm78 Alpha Tester 19,378 posts 6,105 battles Report post #2 Posted June 30, 2016 Have you played USN DD's before? If not, it's hard to predict if you'll like the Sims. It has quite mortar like shell arcs but if you get close enough do make the dpm actually count it's pretty awesome. In 'standard' matches Sims sometimes feels quite frustrating, you can't outspot enemy IJN DD's and you can't push towards them if they have proper cruiser support ( eg when their escorts/support is better then yours ). In domination games, where you can contest caps and enemy's are forced closer to you, you're a far bigger threat. Also, Sims can mount defensive AAA.
TopCatDK Beta Tester 2 posts 248 battles Report post #3 Posted June 30, 2016 I got to tier 5 in the closed beta, and i´m on tier 4 now. Taking it slow ;) I just kinda like the gunboat thing with the US DD line.
Akula971 Beta Tester 1,057 posts 14,075 battles Report post #4 Posted June 30, 2016 It can be a real fun ship once you've mastered some basic US DD tactics and acquired some captains skill points. It has 9.2Km torpedoes, but the damage is quite low, however they still cause flooding and can cause panic amongst enemy ships, as no one will NOT try to avoid them. Very useful in area denial or when an enemy DD is sitting hidden in smoke in cap, 8 torpedoes will shift them, or sink them. It also has better short range torps (5.5km) Guns are where this ship shines, very fast rotation, and excellent rate of fire, you can demolish IJN DDs in short order, and I'm not afraid to engage lone enemy cruisers, as the rudder shift and manoeuvrability are first rate. With concealment expert this ship reduces its viability to 6.6Km, and my favourite tactic is to get in to fairly close range to a cruiser or BB, halt, pop smoke and use that RoF to burn then down.If they charge use torps, if not continue burning. One of the few ships from CBT, I'd buy again.
blaster1112 Beta Tester 139 posts 3,406 battles Report post #5 Posted June 30, 2016 The Sims is a lot like a tier 7 ver version of the Nicholas. It has decent guns that don't do a lot of damage (they go further but have a lot higher arc), but can stealth fire. Like early tier US DD's it has terrible torpedos (either fast (65 kts 5.5km) but short range and low damage or 9.2km torps which are slow, and deal absolutely terrible damage (sub 10k dmg.) These are basically area denial at best. (Unless you cause flooding after setting a fire and them using damage control. Overall it's not the best DD though it's nice and maneuverable, it's guns are good but require a short range to work well. Against other DD's at short range the sims is great. Against CAs this ship suffers. Against BBs you can stealth fire (especially US BBs below tier 7)

Very good help +1 I haven't got Sims but I asked many players that have her. They all (I mean ALL) said: Błyskawica is better (better fire power from main battery). So I will stay in my Błyskawica only - she costs the same. But what is her disadvantage is that there is no more polish ships so you cannot train/use captains from the same nation. Akula971 Beta Tester 1,057 posts 14,075 battles Report post #8 Posted June 30, 2016 Błyskawica is a very nice ship, but not as nimble as the Sims, and there are no other Polish ships at the moment, so not so good as a captain trainer. Both very good, so buy both!

Userext Beta Tester 5,342 posts 2,957 battles Report post #12 Posted June 30, 2016 Why? because that isnt the base credit you get is it? Whatever you added there to make more money would have worked better on a molotov or a tier 8 ship
mtm78 Alpha Tester 19,378 posts 6,105 battles Report post #13 Posted June 30, 2016 because that isnt the base credit you get is it? Whatever you added there to make more money would have worked better on a molotov or a tier 8 ship Premium account + 20% flag off course. But still, I find my Molotov hard to perform well in, I would take my Sims as money maker over Molotov any day of the week. Though ofc, Atago/Tirpitz and Mikael Kutozov are probably going to earn you more credits, because tier VIII premiums have higher coefficients. So the question would be, is Sims worth the real word investment if only used as a credit maker ( in comparison with a tier 8's initial purchase price and higher income thereafter )? Akula971 Beta Tester 1,057 posts 14,075 battles Report post #14 Posted June 30, 2016 Reasons for buying a premium ship. 1. Trains other captains 2. Earns credits 3. Is fun to play 4. Can be used to perfect skills and tactics to use on other ships of the same class and nation. For me the Sims has all 4, especially number 3. There are other premium ships I have that I do better in, earn more credits, but I have 3 "goto" ships for fun. Sims, Kamikaze R, and Gremy.

Again Gremlin definitely isn't printing press for credits.Though unlike advertisement for Sims Gremlin is that Universal destroyer.
[LEGIO] tomkrist Players 144 posts 11,635 battles Report post #17 Posted June 30, 2016 (edited) I am currently learning destroyers. Have gone all lines and must say the russian gun boat is very funny to play. However, since i am a collector and wanted yubaru i bought the package and got a suprise how nicethe sims was. Of course, only played a few matches but it feels good, react good in water. I am not the bestdd captain at the moment. Need to learn more details from map and high tier games but the few gamesi tryed it suprised me, positive. As a BB captain and ca captain i must say the hardest ship to meet is in fact the sims and Kiev. If you dontreact they can really do ugly things for you. However, the profile on the ship is quite high so i havesinked some few but with theire fast steering it is not easy. Should i go for the slower or fast torpedos on this ship? I like the 9 km in cap circles. However, so damn slow. Edited June 30, 2016 by tomkrist
mtm78 Alpha Tester 19,378 posts 6,105 battles Report post #18 Posted June 30, 2016 I use long range torps so I can stealth torp if I need to ( very low hp - oneshot ), but if you play very aggressive the short torps are much faster.

Akula971 Beta Tester 1,057 posts 14,075 battles Report post #21 Posted July 1, 2016 I heard you developed symptoms from Atlanta syndrome as well With the Sims, I had learnt how to use it well in CBT, but played the Gremy more. Then they changed the game and I lost interest in it, and went up the IJN ninja DD line. But after watching Flamu's videos about effective defensive and offence use of smoke, and as an IJN DD player getting wrecked by US DDs above tier 5-6. I decided to try to get it to work, then WG give us the longer range torpedoes and since then I love it! Especially since they nerfed the torpedoes on the Kagero and Shimakaze. I'd just got the Shima when the nerf came in. Those two are rusting in my harbour. Atlanta used to be disaster, turrets lost so easily. But I had a fantastic game in her a few weeks ago, 6 kills, but the game was lost as our BBs prefer back of map, and not cap circles. Next game a win with little damage. Atlanta syndrome for me is reading about the ship, getting my interest piqued, taking her out, having a bad time and remembering why she is so situational.
VeteranGamer84 Players 1,311 posts 51,883 battles Report post #22 Posted July 1, 2016 From my personal experience with the "Sims" I only dislike the slow shell velocity and arcs that makes it not ideal for hitting long range ships.

[JAKT] AttiliusRex Beta Tester 111 posts 3,989 battles Report post #25 Posted July 1, 2016 Is there any real reason why the Sims' torpedoes are so bad? Why the hell are they not the same as the Mahan ones? I too belonged to the camp who thought sims needed Mahans torpedos to be on par with it. But some weeks ago I finally said goodbye to the amazing Farragut and bought myself a Mahan -and fully upgraded it pales in comparision to the Sims. Only thing Mahan got over the Sims is the torpedos. Sims (and Farragut) have both better gun range, Manvourability and Stealth which leads to better Survivability than Mahan. And bow/stern on you got superior firepower which is more important than Mahans broadside firepower for DDs in Melee. Sims is the superior gunboat. As is Farragut over Mahan. Mahan on the other side doesnt know if it's a gunboat or a torpedo boat, it's lacking in both, and it sticks out like a sore thumb in the american DD tech tree between the Farragut and Benson, while Sims fits perfectly between them. Its a super farragut/potato Benson.
