carrier question regarding views

I start the game viewing my carrier, realistic mode, i then click on M for map, select my planes and tell them were to go, if i had a group of planes selected i could then press left Shift and i could follow them around in realistic mode, this no longer works since the new patch, now i thought that if i take the tick out of disable left shift for aircraft carriers, in options this would sort this out, but tick or no tick this does nothing. so what am i missing here, at the moment i am stuck on the Map mode.

had same problem - not discovered until I needed to come out of Map view to ship view to avoid torps......D'oh!

 

To get out of Map view into ship view (same for aircraft) hit "1" (ship) then "M" (to take you out of map mode) then "Z" to give you the normal (realistic mode)view. Hitting "M" will take you back to Map mode.

 

I have never mastered the manual attack, but this now surely makes this option even more complicated.....?

Why has it been done like this? what is the reason for making it harder just to change views
