One can freely take ON/OFF "Flags" and "Consumables" but "Camouflage" you can only destroy and not exchange - why is that?

Hi all,

Sorry if this has been asked & answered before but I didn't find any thread with it... :)

It always puzzled me why the "Flags" and "Consumables" you can freely take ON/OFF whilst "Camouflage" you can only destroy and not exchange...

Any ideas guys?

We pay to put it on, we pay to take it off, that simple.

  • Go outside in your garden and hoist the Royal Ensign up your conveniently positioned flagpole (you can simulate this by hanging some washing out (brownie points from the Mrs...:great:))
  • Buy a few thousand gallons/litres of outdoor paint and spray the outside of your house in a dazzle/camo pattern of choice :B
  • Have a cup of tea and some scran
  • Now take down your flag (/washing :sceptic:)
  • Remove your camo scheme leaving no trace (the neighbours didn't appreciate it, the miserable sods)

Now tell me which costs less in manpower, man-hours and therefore money!!

Do you see my point yet?

Hi all,

Guys - this is a game! :)

Also, the way the game works is that all we do is indicate what we want on our ships in combat (and that is something that will be done afterwards - i.e. just prior to battle itself)... it is same thing with painting as with flags and consumables...

well to be fair if you apply camo by mistake all you have to do is untick auto resupply camo and play a single game. and your problem is solved

I cant help but think this is a complete non-issue

We are just placing orders in our port... the stuff should only appear when the battle starts...

Therefore placing order for one paint and then changing it for another is nothing more than stopping one order and replacing it with another... the painting is not yet done (just as consumables and flags are orders as well)...

Only when battle starts everything is "ready"! :)

But why does that paint disappear each time after I go to a battle if that's the explanation?

It's all related to the special physics of the WoWS universe. The physics that allows you to play a battle with the same ship that was destroyed in battle 5 minutes earlier.

Obvious. WG can only afford emulsion/water based paints. Re-enacting Jutland or Midway seconds after using that kind of paint without giving it a decent key and undercoat, well, you're just asking for trouble. :hiding:

Judging by the responses in this topic, I propose that you have to pay the module costs whenever you demount or mount modules. After all, such an action is resource-consuming!

As for the actual question, it's just a way to force people to spend silver with the added "bonus" of preventing hoarding when/if there is a camouflage discount. Not too big of a deal since you usually only use one pattern exclusively for most ships.

There is one _small_ issue: after that single game you forget about the whole thing and you go to the next battle without camo. I've gone to ranked battle without a camo by accident once because of this. Wish there was a warning message "are you sure you want to go to battle without camo?" type of thing at least in ranked...

you paint camo, so how do you expect to dismount it? :child:

But that raises the question why you still have to repay for it after battle... It was painted on the boat?? So where did it go? :child:

So now I have a mental image of how amazing my house will look in dazzle camo....:teethhappy:

Sea water is aggressive. Ship paint needs to reapplied regularly. Just ask anyone who's been to the sea for a few years.

Also: Repaintings because of combat damage.

Hi all,

Finally... :)

March 3rd 2017 from dev Q&A

"Q: Can you explain why camo application works like it currently does? How it must must be destroyed to change types, unlike other things like signals and consumables? I understand the realism factor. Once you apply paint, you can’t get it back. But from a gaming perspective, what does this add? I feel it only really adds some frustration. For example, maybe my ship is 5000 XP from being elite, and I want to use +100% XP camo to finish it off. If I leave the resupply on, then I run the risk of having a good game that elites the ship and then “wasting” the next camo because I don’t need the bonuses anymore. I can turn resupply off, but then before every battle until I elite it I need to manually reapply it. And then I risk accidentally forgetting and entering battle with no camo. I can’t see this adding player choices, it just makes a memory game of remembering when to turn on/off resupply or to put camo on before every battle.

A: Well, the original design was connected with IRL logic as you said – you cannot demount camo from the ship. However, when you think about it…this is not the matter where we should stick to IRL logic. Your idea is solid – this is the matter of comfort. We discussed your question with game designers and decided to improve camo application logic so it will be demountable like signal flags. I’m not promising 0.6.3 or 0.6.4, but I think we will manage to squeeze it into some of the foreseeable future updates. Thank you for your input!"

This has been brought up. With the same non answers you're getting now:once you paint it, you'll have to repaint.

But I'm still waiting for a good explanation why I have to repaint a ship after each battle. Even when I manage to get out undamaged...

Hi all,

Finally... :)

That is good news! This has been bugging me for a while as well. I've wasted many camo's mounting the right one to stack with daily win for example.
