The higher the tier, the more boring the game is

Indeed. Maybe because of the repair costs, for the extended range of the ships, or both, but playing high tiers is booooring. Nobody wants to go in with the team and fight. They just exchange long range shots and wait for the time to expire. It doesn't matter if your team is losing and you have to cap, people prefer to stay back and just shoot and get damage.

While playing in lower tiers, say 1 to 4, the gameplay is a lot more fun because people aren't afraid to go to 10 kms or less and have an actual fight.

Thats why I rarely even set sail out in my ibuki. I keep my ships at tier 8 ... thats where the fun is most balanced.

I'll never get a tier 9 or 10 in this game, same with WoT. I don't like the meta, nor do the ships here or tanks there interest me much. Sure, Yamato, but no. In WoWs I like tier 3-8, in WoT 5-8.

I completely disagree. After getting my first premium tier 8 a week or so after starting the game, i never looked back. I only occationally play lower tiers to get some exp to uppgrade the ships to higher tiers. But its so boring, that i am afraid i will never get all those lines to tier X since i got the Khabarovsk, and find it a lot more fun to play than anything in the lower tiers

while the game has potential..I too notice a high prevalence of "everybody (invis) snipes" tactical maneuvering is very limited. as the only tactic that pays off is getting a broadside on someone for citadels, but since many ships are either downright immune (destroyers), insanely difficult to citadel (battleships with even the smallest angle, carriers on the other end of the map)..or simply too risky to get close to to get the citadel the most chosen option is blob up and "snipe it" (be it by invisitorping, long range BB-ing or invisi firing from smoke or a fully kitted high tier cruiser).

it works (and some players are really good gunners) but its dull.

i had more than 4K battles in WoT and never got to T10, its just boring and and match is erratic, i loved the T5-7 matches, the guns fire fast, the tanks are quick and players aren't scared of everything.

its the same here, with the difference is that people now will spam from range, kustuve will sit comfortably is smoke and spam us, BBs trying so ''sniper'' and its just all very boring and very lame compared to the cutthroat mid tiers

Personally I'd make guns even more inaccurate at extreme ranges to discourage the "camp at back and snipe" mentality that seems so prevalent.

Given the mechanics behind WoWs it is only logic that high tier games get slower. If slower equals more boring is for everyone to decide for himself. And I don't mean any commercial issues like repair costs but how the gameplay is changing throughout the tiers.

BBs get increased HP and terrifying guns but become cumbersome and sluggish.

CAs have increased range, hit like a brick and some of them can even invisfire.

CVs can murder any lone ship, even DDs, easily.

DDs can release salvos of hard hitting torps, have good concealment and good guns.

Of course there are lots of exceptions to the above, but you see where I am coming from...

Making Battleships more cumbersome and sluggish will just promote even more "sniping". Where players stay at max range, and never hit a single shell all game, then come on the forums to rage about how they aren't accurate enough

Same feeling. 8 is my treshold, 5-6 is the best.

It's because of the more risk of instadeath, unnecessary big maps and of course economy (also amplified by instadeath).

totally agree there are to me two "fun" segments in the game

tier 2-4: "the pre dreadnought era", is hilarious for its ship with too many guns (st. louis, svietlana, etc) and the first few battleships which are dangerous but doesn't lock down the entire battlefield, and the DDs are are awesome scouts.

tier 5-6(7): "The early dreadnought era" where battleships become truly powerful, cruisers run around like headless chickens trying to provide AA cover, and kill DDs and well shoot everything else. of course these are the seas where you also find the dreaded Minakaze the lone hunter that is ready to strike down any BB that gets too close to it's hungry brood of fish.

then there is the really unfun segments:

tier 1: "playground" too uninspiring and random, it's the playground.

tier (8)9-10: "The shooting range", the guns have too long a range, the torps infest the waters like piranhas but instead of being confined to small rider they are found cross the Atlantic. Even worse most of the maps cater to these extreme gun ranges  Here the cruisers have more and more limited area of operation, meet a DD? kill ir or die showdown, meet a BB? run away or die. Meet a carrier? maybe you will survive the planes.

Okay I have to admit my view of tier 8-10 is from the games where I been tier 8, and if/when I get tier 10 ships I might change my mind but... so far I don't see it sowwy.

I agree, tier 10 gameplay is boring and too campy. I don't like it and you just keep losing credits without premium account. It's not fun and there's no point in grinding because the fun stops after tier 8.

Totally disagree.

I generally won't touch anything below tier 8. I find low tier matches on the whole insanely irritating. I'll go to the lower tiers on occasion but it's like going to the zoo just to watch the chimps - it's sort of entertaining to watch everyone flail around and fling poo at each other but it gets annoying fast.

It's exactly this. Very well said, a lot better than my OP.

US battleships are actually more maneuverable at T8-10 than Colorado.

Like WoT I hate tier 8 and the grind for 9-10 is so long I'll never get much high tier gameplay in. 5 is the best in both games, and 7 is the highest I enjoy in both... give us Tone!

Where exactly? Speed? That is only of minor concern when having to do evasive action like dodging torps.

Colorado: 12,9s upgraded rudder shift time with 640m turning radius.

NC:13,8s upgraded rudder shift time with 760m turning radius.

Iowa: 15,6s upgraded rudder shift time with 920m turning radius.

Montana: 17,8s upgraded rudder shift time with 950m turning radius.

After T7-8 BBs turn to bricks and that is the very reason why they 'can't' turn properly anymore and do ranged duels using front-to-the-enemy tactics all the time.

From the tier 8,9 and 10 games I've played I would say that 50% have been of the 'sit back and snipe' meta, however I've also had plenty of games where the action has been pretty intense almost from the get go.

The people that complain about the ranges in T8-10 are the ones with poor skill and understanding of the game meta. When you see people even say WOT is better at tier 5 then you know you are dealing with clueless casuals.

The worst part is that WG is listening to this misguided whining and is decreasing the chance for Standard Battle in what will be a totally failed attempt to reduce campy - cowardly behavior.

Cowards will be cowards no matter what. Domination doesn't change this. Countless of times have i seen games end with 2 ships dead and 3 caps controlled because one team was comprised primarily of cowards. At least with Standard Battle you have a good 20min to get close enough to shoot the cowards sink ships and enjoy the battle.

That won't work. They would still try to hit the RNG jackpot if they can shoot. One of the problems is the high repair costs at high level. Lowering the repair costs will help with people taking chances of being hit (they could decrease income a bit to compensate), but still, like Spithas says, cowars will be cowards. This happens in every game, but in this one, high tiers have a higher coward rate. Yes, I have had my fair share of fun games at tier 8 , specially with my Tirpitz, but those are not the norm. Most of the time the people don't care about the objectives, just stay back and get some damage without exposing your ship.

This leads to camping, as CAs can't push without the BBs, and they usually don't have the same range as the BBs, so you either try to do something and get killed, or stay with the BBs and provide AA cover and help dealing with the DDs.
