So just started playing WoW, since i play WoT. Here are my questions:

1) Do I use HE shells or AP and when would I use AP over HE and vice versa?

2) Which is the best starting nation and type? Like which route should i take on tech tree?

3) Is it worth buying a premium ship to grind credits with?

4) Anything else I should be aware of?

US DDs are fun as well as IJN Cruisers. But it is really your choice. Watch youtube channels.

You can learn a lot by watching good players. These guys are really good youtubers and great players. Just watch which ammo type they are using, how are they positioning and angling.

DD = Destroyer

IJN = Imperial japanese navy

DD = destroyer

IJN - Imperial Japanese Navy

You will of course hear about these;

CA - Cruiser (Armoured)

BB - Battleship (B for battleships pre 1920)

CV - Fleet Aircraft Carrier

D was for destroyers pre 1920

DDs = Destroyers.

IJN = Imperial Japanese Navy (i.e. Japan).

CV - Fleet Aircraft Carrier

Actually, CA meant Heavy Cruiser (not the same as Armoured).

CV does theoretically mean that it's a "fleet" carrier; however, we have CVs in game that were considered light aircraft carriers IRL.

battleships are most forgiving class to play, but with cruisers you could learn the fastest. destroyers and carriers i would leave to veteran players.

If you want to start with easy handling use US Cruiser, if you want to have the steepest learning curve use Battleships (I did this and learned the essentials of the game late, which resulted in a low win rate).

1) Think there is a tutorial video for this, certainly a YouTube video explaining. I don't have time to go into it fully but it's situational based on what you're sailing and what you're shooting at.

2) Personal preference, I'd play a mix of all at the beginning, reminding that some lines see significant changes to play style as you progress.

3) I would say no, not until you've reached T5 at least. Low tier premiums don't generate much and it's a (very) bad idea to play a premium higher if you haven't got used to game play at higher tiers.

4) Play and have fun, if you don'y enjoy a ship, stop playing for a while and run with something different. Go back later, it's a good idea to play all varieties, that way you get an idea of what you're up against and how to counter it.

1). AP does more damage, but can bounce, or overpenetrate depending on where you shoot and at what angle. HE does less damage, but can start fires and generally does damage simply by hitting the enemy ship. HE is therefore popular at first when you're simply trying to hit the enemy. AP gets used more when you're comfortable shooting, and can aim at the right places at the right times. When you're fairly used to the game you'll use both, depending on the situation/enemy/angle/range.

2). Try them all. There is no "best". Different nations play differently, as do the different classes. Cruisers are generally the best starting class since they're a bit jack of all trades.

3). Not to start with. You shouldn't have issues with credits until tier 7/8. When you get to that level look into getting one then.

4). Read through the newcomers section of the forum, there's lots of advice/guides there. Don't be in a rush to advance up the tiers, learn the basics before you move up

O lol thx and why is it called doudble D and not D?

These abbreviations are from the US navy hull codes. All hull codes have two letters which determine the ship type. The first letter is for the general type of ship(C=Cruiser, B=Battleship, D=Destroyer). The second letter often determines the sub-type, such as DE for destroyer escort or CL for light cruiser. But if there isn't any subtype then it's just the same letter twice such as DD.

The abbreviations that you're gonna meet in wows are:

- DD for destroyer

- CA for heavy cruiser(also often used for cruisers in general)

- CL for light cruiser

- BB for battleship

- CV for aircraft carrier

DD - Destroyer

BB - Battleship

BC - Battlecruiser (absent as distinct class ingame)

CB - Large cruiser (absent as distinct class ingame)

CA - Heavy cruiser (formerly armoured cruiser, hence the "A"; ingame not distinguished from the CL's)

CL - Light cruiser (Ingame not distinguished from the CA's)

CV - Aircraft carrier

   CVA - CV, Attack

   CVL - CV, Light

   CVE - CV, Escort

iChase's Captains academy can be a good place to start with on youtube to learn the mechanics.

And the first 3 tiers i forgiving, so test destroyers, cruisers and battleship and see what you like.

I would recommend reading this guide: https://forum.worldofwarships.eu/index.php?/topic/18034-basics-damage-mechanics

It doesn't directly tell you which ammo type to use in which situation but lets you understand why AP or HE are more effective in different situations.

I'd recommend you to experiment yourself which ammunition type is effective in which situations.

Id recommend us lines for new players. Play both bb and cruiser lines to t5-t6 then revaluate. You could pick up texas or the upcoming new t7 us bb premium or swap to ijn to mix things up. Stick to tiers 1-6 to learn the game and dont rush it. Swap nations to find your style.

You could also consider picking incoming fire alert captain skill to automaticly dodge when fired upon since learning situational awaressness takes time. You can drop it later.

Gl! friend me on game if you need more help. :)

Grind everything to tier V I recommend.

agreed, that's your best option to be fair. its around tier 5 the national differences become more noticeable across the ship classes

Hey! Welcome! Hope you like the game. I agree with all the above. 1 important tip: start low, go slow. Don't rush the tiers. A mistake I made. Higher tiers is per definition not easier. On the contrary: it gets harder. But I guess you'll know that from WOT.
