Too Many Islands

Having not played for a number of months, our clan have come back to WoW but have not enjoyed the experience, all the maps (or at least the ones we've played on over the last few weeks) have far too many islands with limited open space between them. That might be alright on a World of Tanks map with hills instead of islands, but for a sea based game? absolutely not, simply due to the turning circles required for the ships and their stopping times, trying to manoeuvre the larger ships on most of these maps is a waste of time. A lot of our clan have given up in disgust and stopped playing it. Shame, as we were looking forward to playing ships again.

Eh, you'll get used to it.

It's not like I didn't run into one or two islands today when I was being inattentive ... in my defense, it were on the newer maps (for once I have a good excuse, use it!).

They started doing city maps for Wows, too.  Only that in real life no captain will bring his ship so close to the rocks anyway.  Map designers for Wows are the less smart from WG,  I suppose.

Honestly, I'm glad there are so many islands. That gives you more options on how to approach an objective. The most dull map imo is Ocean ( aka map without islands ).

Yeah his clan is lame... they just wanna shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot and shoot LOL... I think they are 13 olds that need to get rid of some stuff LOL.

Maybe he thinks this is World of Warcraft or something hihihi.

There is almost nothing more exciting in this game... then some ship, for example a cruiser about to come from behind an island... just waiting and praaaaying for you to blow some shells into it ! And instantly sink it before it can launch torpies at yooooouuuu... the blizz of islandzzzzzz.... MOREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE islandzzzzz :P****************************

And the award for worst 1st post goes to...

To be fair I feel he has a point. But not made in the most positive way :)

some of the new maps - it's a bit like playing "peekaboo" behind the islands.

Now ow the worst offender for me is neighbours. Whereas I quite like the other map (forgot name) where the islands are larger.

Lots us of small islands dotted around with no "clumping" feels awkward and looks unrealistic for me. But I really only have this complaint about neighbours. i used to hate fault line but I "get it" now.

Yes,  they give that peekaboo feeling from Wot.

^ Well,  he lost his ship and got 16 years for playing with the rocks.

The idea is that near the rocks that are above the water there are usually also submerged rocks.

To be honest I have nothing against islands in general. Most maps have some big islands that split the battle area and that's good for tactical choices, some dense small island areas if people want to go there and some open water with advantages/disadvantages.

What I can't stand are the new maps like Estuary and Trident where they have lines of equally spaced tall islands. It even says in the dev blog this is deliberate to make you duck and shoot. And that's the bit I find dumb, being forced by map design to fight a naval game like a cover-based shooter.

I've got no trouble at all with all those Island maps. I think there are sufficient maps where te longranged bigger ships have the upperhand. I quite like how the balancing is where big ships have the "outer ring" occupied and the smaller, more manouverable ships with lower range can fight with some more protection in the more central areas. I quite like that they have added estuary and neighbours. I find both maps fun to play with every ship class and, with placement of the objectives, quite diverse too

Unrealistic indeed, especially the one where there are raging waterfalls flowing from what I'd call little rocky outcrops meant to be islands. I'm ok with some of the maps being smaller, but then they need to be restricted to lower tiers. No-one likes spawning and within 1km of cap being in the range of enemy tier 8 bb's.

The people that find Ocean map boring... in a naval game... simply amazing.

Boring is something that is repetitive. Ocean rarely plays the same way because there are not obstructions to ship movement. Caps are also very close to each other making it pretty dynamic too as even when ships group up at A and C they are still close enough to have an enjoyable shoot-out.

On the contrary Estuary just forces ships down 2 and 9 lines and also kinda promotes camping in the middle spawn of your side. Neighbors is better because at least it provides option of both open sea and clumped up islands.

I love the ocean map, it's the only time it feels like a proper naval battle and not a paint ball arena.

I've never played World of Warcraft and have no intention of doing so, most of our clan are over 45 years old.

I like having islands that you can use and abuse, it gives me options in how and who to engage.

Now as for map frequency I've seen Trident far too many times since it was introduced.

Sorry, don't understand what you mean by that, that link goes to pretty much a blank page that only gives the date I first registered.

He means it looks like you haven't played a single match which might mean that there's a chance you are trolling.

I'm with Spithas here. Since Ocean changed to domination mode only I really enjoy that map. As for islands, after 5k+ games I still get a buzz when I land a massive hit on somebody playing peek-a-boo behind an island.
