What is the best ship to farm the Confederate medal?

What is the best ship to get the Confederate medal? I need it to get the flags to retrain my captains faster.

It is not so much about the ship, it is more about what tier you play. I would say BBs are best for collecting Confederate, but it needs to be in lower tier battles, so from that stand point i would say Fuso maybe is best choice. Fuso's  many guns and fast reloads will allow you to hit various targets in the battle, and it is tier 6, so you will be paired with many players who will allow you to hit them hard.

Russian cruisers. Fast reload, accurate guns, easy to change flank and/or targets and they can even start fires on BBs unlike german ones.

Low tier protected cruisers with lots of guns - St.Louis, Bogatyr, Dresden should work. Small maps help ;-)

I would go for something faster then St Louis, you can't farm much medals if you can't catch the enemy ( if by chance, they are not stupid enough to throw themselves at your waiting guns ). Something like a mid tier cruiser ( Omaha like? ), just pray you got mucho DD's in enemy team.

Whatever ship you're really good with I guess... Shoot enough enemies and eventually get the medal. Honestly though playing for the medal can be a bit dumb because usually it's better to keep shooting the same ship until it sinks instead of changing target to try to do 20% of their HP in damage to someone else and leave the first guy happily shooting back.

Budjonny is awesome for it imo. or just take fuso and shoot 5 salvos to 5 different ships

 

edit: i forgot about kirov. its also awesome. just load AP and get your confederate.

Don't you have Gremlin rusting in your port?

 

While capping/pushing forward/scouting you often meet some destroyer to sink.

Even if it gets away because of you getting fire from enemy cruisers or chasing would be too risky it's fast to do good chunk of damage.

(never chase into unspotted territory or assume enemy cruisers at sub-10km range keep missing you for long)

 

If enemy destroyers were lucky/smart enough to be elsewhere it's time to hunt cruisers, because let's face it: BBs tend lag seriously behind them.

So usually you need to make some cruisers disappear/sink before getting to try torping BBs.

Ideally you can surprise occupied cruiser with dose of "toxic fish" or with team mates/planes close enough to spot pop smoke and start firing:

AP when they're "citadellable", HE when they're angled or too far for citadel hits.

Though when enemy cruisers hesitate attacking it's usually possible to rain some HE(ll) on BBs to start barbeque.

On closer range from smoke or otherwise safe (no one to point guns at you) broadside USN BBs make decent AP target by targeting upper decks above citadel armor ("no sell" there) and below (overpenned) superstructure.

I've gotten 2½-3½k damage salvoes on New Mexico.

Yep, while against its own tier and lower St. Louis would do well higher tier ships can outrun it and also outrange it.

I've citadelled Orlans with Smith HE (read: literally the weakest main battery HE shell in the game). I'm not convined Orlan has the endurance to survive long enough to get a Confederate so often. Though I have seen Orlans do very well, any that actually have to fight a suffer a bit of focus just melt.

on tier 1 and 2 AP isnt of much use. you will see more citadels with HE than with AP...

 

orlan doesnt have the endurance, but any sealclubber can make use of it

I tend to get them in my BBs. I really don't know and don't care. They just happen. In my opinion concentrating on destroyers and cruisers helps a lot. I think I got quite a few with long range BB shots on destroyers (for the extra 1 or 2 ships damaged). Those things actually hit once in a while if you know how to preaim.

Does it even matter? As far as I know you will only get one set of flags a day, no matter the amount of confederate medals you manage to "farm". So just play the game, with whatever ship and get your daily flags

I used to get it every game at some point as taiho (2-3-2) although it is a bit dependent on MM, indy and shokaku are great for it too.

For me, cruisers tier 4 - 7 are easiest.
