Grand Naval Battles premium ships selection. Some thoughts.

Hey guys.

So, i have a few thoughts for those aiming for one of the premium ships.

 

 

The GNB event gives us a selection of four premium ships:

 

1) Albany for 400 diamonds

 

2) Tachibana for 150 diamonds

 

3) Smith for 350 diamonds

 

4) Katori for 450 diamonds
 

 

Given the info we have so far, it seems that the max number of diamonds that a player can accumulate is about 1000.

 

This number may increase if you earn more diamonds in some streamer's giveaway* (see spoiler for details) or in the TB event from WG.

Should you encounter the "Average Armchair Admirals" in a team battle and manage to beat them, all your team members will be rewarded with: 

100 Diamonds + bragging rights.

 

You should also be aware that all our contributors have been given a weekly budget of Diamonds to conduct activities and contests. So if you are especially hungry for some of the higher tier rewards, or want to buy all of the premium ships, I would recommend keeping an eye on what they are doing.

The permanent missions give a total of 500d and the weeklies will earn you about 80-100d for 5 weeks.

Having these numbers in mind it is theoretically achievable for someone (meaning a hardcore player) to acquire 3 premiums in total.

This is possible because at 150d, the Tachibana is extremely cheap in comparison to the others.

 

It is safe to assume that a more casual player will be able to reach about 300-500 diamonds over the entire course of the event.
This means that you can aim for only one or possibly two premiums.
 

 

Remember that none of the ships is actually worth getting for credit earning or captain training because of the very low gains in tier 2 games.

 

Ship collectors however should have in mind that, from the selection we have, Albany was a free giveaway ship and may never be for sale again.

Smith and Katori have never been on sale in EU (in this variant form of each ship) but, as they are recent additions to the fleet, we will probably have a chance to get them again in the future.

Tachibana was never for sale also but many players already have her from a previous magazine offer and it is likely that we will see her again in some event/sale.
Having said that, she is an extremely value-for-diamonds case now and worth getting in addition to something else if you have the necessary diamonds.

I would love to get the Smith as I already own the Albany and don't really use IJN ships. But I have little hope of actually getting enough diamonds for it.

The collector in me just wants to own a ship that has not been available to us before.

Ironically, probably the most fun ship from that 4 is the Albany, which got really nice after its range was buffed.

Overall the choice is not very encouraging to do the super grindy missions (just compare with the mission NA server had for Tachibana), so i will pass the effort, just hoping that normal playing will get me enough for Katori.

Also, you may notice how many people were misled by the main page for the event and the big picture with ships looking like 5+ tier premiums. Lack of even Mikasa is disappointing too.

As a massive fan of all Japanese ships I am hoping to get both of the IJN ones - but realistically 600 diamonds might be beyond my time and ability to obtain, in which case I'll go for whatever I can!

I have enjoyed playing the Tachibana (seal clubbing with Fubuki/Shimakze captains ).

 

Would like to add the Smith to my port (for similar reasons).

 

And the Albany has been buffed since it was given away.

I'll definitely go for Smith first, been waiting for that thing ever since it was first datamined. After that, I'll see what's in budget - maybe Tachibanananananana, or maybe the Flags packs, or a port slot. Will probably depend on how much of my life Stellaris will suck out of me when it inevitably wins the Tug-of-War against WoWS at least for a time

18 (!!!) knots ship with only 2 turrets (2 guns each) will be super-weak when facing tier 5 ships.....

I don't want to upset any fans of the ships on offer in GNB - but none of them appeal to me in the slightest.

 

However, the port slot that comes with them IS appealing. I know that you can get a port slot for opening Supply Box #4 (for 100 diamonds), but you can only open each box once.

True, but here is a FUN FACT:

With a range of 13.5km its guns fire further than Furutaka! (11.8km stock, and 13.0km upgraded).

I would like both Tachibana and Katori, but realistically with my skill and available time I would never be able to collect 600 diamonds. So Tachibana is more realistic and obtainable option.

Smith & Katori are my targets since I have the other two. But Port slot first, and then I will probably aquire a second Tachibana for it's slot as well, since WG are quite reluctant to give me a port slot sale...

 

I'm not sure how well Katori works, I don't think it can be used as an AA escort, so I'm guessing second line support, similar to how Yubari plays (a style of play I seem to excel at), just slower.

I will try to get the Smith first because of its unique 11 second reload single-launchers. Should be interesting to use those.

It will also allow me to train US DD captains if I feel like it.

 

Then then Katori. The horrible speed and citadel armor are worrying, but everything else about that ship is quite nice. As far as I know it got by far the most range of any T3 ship.

Furthermore I have no premium ship at T3 yet.

Oh, nice! 

 

They will also reduce the price of the Atlanta by 30%, which is something I was hoping for. I think that's the biggest discount yet.

Only problem is that I have already bought the Atlanta by now. 

 

It was clear that it would receive a price reduction sooner or later, but I didn't expect it to be this soon.

A small addition to my original post.

To anyone planning to get the max amount of diamonds he can, bear in mind that the 10 permanent missions give 500 diamonds in total but 200 diamonds come from only 2 missions!

 

200 diamonds is actually 40% of the max diamonds obtainable from the permanent ones or 20% of the grand total.

These 2 missions are also the hardest ones to complete (play 300 and 500 battles, respectively).
