Control keys not getting saved

Guys,

Everytime i restart the game or match ends and i start a new one my controls for starboard and port are getting deleted.

For each new match i have to go into the settings menu to configure my stearing keys over and over again.

Even if i press apply multiple times as soon i exit the game or restart the setting are blank again, stearing keys are not getting saved.

Is there anyway to solve this problem its very annoying to start each new battle without my stearing control keys?

I use the left and right arrow for my rudder control keys.

I have that same issue but not everytime, in addition I also cannot see on the screen anymore when i select manual target for my secondaries with crtl+mouse click. Before the patch when i click on enemy ship or airplane there was small circle above them, now nothing.  So i cannot tell if they are selected as primary target or not.

I have the same problem. I like to steer with my arrow keys. And every time it's being deleted. Never had this before. I already mentioned it on the feedback page of the forum. More people experiencing the same.

Hi Guys, first post on the forum and that is have a bit  of a moan :( I am having the same issue, but, being a bit stupid, it doesn't occur to me to check! I have sailed into islands and even been sunk whilst trying to figure out what is going on.

I guess I am just a muppet.

Close game. Rename Preferences.xml. Restart game. Rebind any keys you had changed from their default and see if this fixes it.

Worked for me when Ctrl stopped working.

To what did you rename the file because the game just made a new one in the wows folder?

That's the point. :) I renamed the original Preferences.xml.old

Make sure the game is closed.

Rename file.

Restart the game and a new one is created automagically.

Ok but didnt work .

Control keys are still not getting saved.

Simple fix should be possible but seems not important enough for wargaming staff. Thats a bit sad.....

If you applied 0.5.5 update, probably best to uninstall and do a new installation from scratch.

Reading back probably more applicable to albinbino's issue.

Got same problem after the new patch.

Won't save my Starboard & Port user define settings (running the game as admin) , it's the only user definable keys I got a problem with.

Did the preference solution -> didn't work for me.

Then did a total uninstall game and reinstall it -> didn't work for me.

Hmmmmmm - hope WG gonna make a fix and that.

Still got the problem after last patch :-(

As said above i had the same problem, and got it solved, i was using Num key 5 for my consumables number 3 but for some reason game did not like that, so i moved consumable 3 to Num key 6 and left Num key 5 empty. After that it did not reset my controls anymore. For some reason game did not like me using Num Key 5 for this purpose. Try also that rearranging little bit, this means problem with you is only with one key, but question is which one. For me was Num Key 5 that i used.

It's my left & right arrow key that can't be saved as settings, using them as TurnPort & TurnStarboard :-(

Hi guys.

I have the same problem too (and had for a long time).

Deleted Preference.xml - did not help

Reinstalled game - did not help (and not fun on a mobile connection where I pay about $1 per GB)

After a lot of testing and checking I have come to this conclusion:

It ACTUALLY saves the arrow key that are mapped to the Preference.xml BUT it don't read it in when the game starts.

As you can see here:

            <CRUISE_ANGLE_LEFT>

                <keyCode>    KEY_LEFTARROW    </keyCode>
            </CRUISE_ANGLE_LEFT>

But it is still don't work and the key mapping is empty in settings.

So NO MATTER WHAT we do, it will never work. Since it is a bug in the game that have not been fixed for a LOOOOONG time.

This will probably make me stop playing until it is fixed (and hope no other game has me hooked until that (if ever) happen).

Ok - I looked  how it works exactly and where is a problem. And problem is simple. Not all avaiable options can be edited by game menu. So when you choose a key which is already signed to other hidden option, then it will be saved, but after reload it will not be working. Ex. "delete" key. It will not work. But it can be fixed. First you can choose another key in game menu or I wrote before: don't assign your keys in game menu at all, but copy default keys file to mod folder and edit them here.

So all defaults used by game are in command_mapping_config.xml packed in /res_packages directory. But not all are visible in game menu !

When you change some of it in game menu, it is saved in preferences.xml in main directory

example:

        <keyboardControl>
            <CMD_TRACK_OBJECT_CAMERA>
                <keyCode>    KEY_DELETE    </keyCode>
            </CMD_TRACK_OBJECT_CAMERA>
        </keyboardControl>

This will not work and be ignored and even will not show after game reload but still in preferences.xml  ! Why ? Becouse in command_mapping_config.xml DELETE key is already used by another option not visible in game menu:

        <CMD_REPLAY_DECREASE_SPEED
                keyCode="KEY_DELETE" />

So what can be done ?

You have 2 options.

1. You can use another key not assigned already to some hidden option in command_mapping_config.xml. Ex. "DELETE" to "PAUSE" key.

2. Or  you can forget about changing keys in game menu but edit your copy of command_mapping_config.xml without any limits with not working keys.

So in this example with DELETE you can add this key to TRACK_OBJECT_CAMERA and change REPLAY_DECREASE_SPEED key code to different sign or even make null keyCode="", when you will not use such option at all.

1. First extract command_mapping_config.xml from /res_packages directory using WoW unpacking tool. Tutorial is here:

http://forum.worldofwarships.com/index.php?/topic/77807-tutorial-to-unpack-wows-files-version-0550-or-later/

File is here: (oryginal link to WoW site is not working, but those the same files as stated in last post of this topic/ I checked with mine copied from WoW and they are the same 100%.)

http://www.mediafire.com/download/nkprt8rq80if8u6/Wows_Unpacker_Gui.zip

2. Then copy extracted command_mapping_config.xml to /res_mods/"patch number"/ directory.

3. You can freely edit every option. In case of the problems you can always delete this file from mods directory and game default will be used. How to edit ? Simply assign all your preffered keys in game menu as you wish (even as not working keys). Then find all of them in preferences.xml in main directory. Ex.   <CMD_TRACK_OBJECT_CAMERA>
                <keyCode>    KEY_DELETE    </keyCode>

Find CMD_TRACK_OBJECT_CAMERA in your copy of command_mapping_config.xml change default <keyCode> to KEY_DELETE Search file for others KEY_DELETE. If found then change this second option to another key or make it blank when not used, <keyCode>  ""</keyCode

When you make all your changes to command_mapping_config.xml then for clarity delete all your changes in preferences.xml. Delete all  bracket <keyboardControl> </keyboardControl> with text inside or just set keys to defaults in game menu.

When new patch is coming simply move your copy of command_mapping_config.xml to a new directory ex. from /res_mods/0.5.9.1 to 0.5.9.2.

Any other questions ? It is very simple method and can be done in a few minutes and it work 100%.

here extracted copy of command_mapping_config.xml. Just save as file and edit.
