Just had a battle (got sunk) in the rain ,cool or what , your vision goes out , you get wet( of course).  Game started off very clear day then came the rain in  , at 12 you lose sight of the enemy  and then its "where the £%^&  did they go " sort of thing . Very COOL

Nice job  WG

I'll just use this thread to do a little advertising :hiding:

Anyone who can provide me with screenshots of the Cyclone messages and the cyclone minimap from the live server would be gladly apreciated.

A replay would do the trick (if you where still alive during and after the cyclone ^^)

Just missing those things to finish the reworked spotting mechanics guide and move it to the newcomers section :honoring:

Gets old fast. You don't really want so sail around a map without vision for ten minutes desperately hoping to run into an enemy.

Which is why it needs to be dynamic

Please excuse my ignorance because I never got on the test servers, but is this going to be like the turret damage/magazine detonation thing, where we will have a significant subset of the playerbase whining because something is happening outside what they perceive is their direct control, or is it applied in a more mechanical (i.e. "2 minutes until storm starts/ends" messages, no randomisation) way?

I ask only for information, not for personal gain (& won't be able to play until tonight & maybe not until the weekend!)...

It's outside of their control, mostly because it starts at a random time, and lasts a random duration (if it happens at all).

However no one particular class benefits or gets penalised more than another, they all gain something and all lose something.

For people that can deal with change its perfectly fine - they just swap up their game play ("hey I was shooting at something 20km away, now bad weather has happened, I'll go support the cap since no one has me spotted")

For people that can't ("I only shoot at things 20km away, now I can't see them") There will probably be teeth gnashing because they can't adapt

I personally think acquisition range should slowly "flow" between 8-20km in bad weather, instead of being static 8km.

Very welcome addition. But I'd rather have one type of weather for the entire battle.

Looking forward for bigger waves during bad weather and limited visibility during heavy rain/snow/fog conditions on all maps.

And night battles, of course.

Does radar work in the cyclone? I.e. Can I pop radar in my New Orleans and see up to 9km (instead of 8km)?

Can't test this till later tonight.

i think ship mounted radar is uneffected by weather

Latest assumption and indications:

Radar works without the cap to 8km with the usual ranges. But since your own ship is only able to see (=render) ships max 8km away you cannot see them at distances of 8.1 - 11.7km

But if a friendly ship is closer to the enemy ship (mostly DD) than you are, he is able to spot and see him if you activate it.

Will get that official confirmation later today/tomorrow probably.

Really like it, especially fun when you're in a big BB and can suddenly start to sneak up on your enemies and deliver a couple citadels before they even turned their guns your way.

In my opinion that "weather system" is just another useless feature. It looks good, but it really imbalances the game by adding another "random element" you can't control. It takes that game another step from competing "skills" to "which team got the most of luck". There would have been major other points to be adressed with that update like improving the gameplay with new matchmodes or rebalances. All I noticed are changes that imo are not documented. For example now my Fubuki with it's three turrets which prepatch could deal reliable damage to another DD scores amounts of 0 dmg HE hits on even T VI oder T VII DDs I'm not willing to accept (last round it was 26 hits on a Mahan which all penned it according to post battle statistics but only dealed 5000 dmg in total). Meanwhile my Kirov started citadelling other cruisers long-range on any aspect (19 citadels last round long-range 15 km+ and I didn't shoot K or N-bergs).

Also I'm not noticing an effect of that new "packing system". Despite I did a clean reinstall on an high-end machine I just feels somehow "laggier" than before (despite same FPS and Ping). Also the weather effects for me are not documented clearly enough. Pre-Patch you always knew spotting ranges for enemy ships now it also depends on randomness. That "new" fire in your binocular disturbs the usability of the scope mode and so on...

On contrary. It adds to a challenge and gameplay IMO. But effects should last for the duration of entire battle (if they affect visibility that is, otherwise it doesn't matter).

Changes in the file structure were not aimed at high-end machines, but at those that took minimum 1 minute to load a battle.

Weather effects are only visual feature. Weather affects visibility only on North map as explained in release notes:

''During the cyclone, the maximum surface spotting/detectability range (ship to ship) is 8 km, and the maximum air spotting/detectability range (ship to aircraft, aircraft to ship, aircraft to aircraft) is 3 km. ''

New visuals for fire can be switched off.

Please excuse me asking a stupid question, but this needs to be crystal clear:

When the cyclone hits, and maximum detection range is reduced to 8km, does this affect the penalty for firing your guns?

So if you and the enemy are 10km apart in a cyclone, then a friendly ship detects the enemy, you can see him but he cannot see you.

If you then open fire, does the enemy detect you as usual?
