I must be all that fresh sea air?

I've mostly been spending my online time on the seven seas lately, but yesterday I played a bit of World of Tanks, mainly just to try to get back in shape with the game. And during the very first battle, on Redshire, there was this allied player who suddenly wrote in the all-chat "campers at H6".

I checked , and sure enough, he was informing the enemy of the location of his (our) allies.

I didn't bother to point out that since his allies were actually fighting a desperate battle on the slopes of Mount Redshire, they could hardly, by any stretch of the imagination, be said to be "camping". I just wrote to him in the chat and asked him to stop informing on his allies. He wrote back and told me to [edited] myself. I reported him for unsportsmanlike conduct as well as insults and provocations, and went away from that battle feeling just a little less happier than I'd been before.

Then I played some games in World of Warships. After an unusually successful run in my Gremyaschy, I spent a happy quarter of an hour dodging  battleship shells in my Murmansk, in a battle where one of my allies made a good show of trying to coordinate our team into a joint effort. When he called us back to defend the base I promptly responded, only to run into a well executed torpedo ambush which sent me to the bottom. I complimented the destroyer captain, and got a laughing text-smiley in return. I went away from that battle considerably happier than before.

I'm not saying that the World of Warships community is by nature less toxic than that of World of Tanks. In fact, they are probably overlapping each other to a large extent. But it has seemed to me, of late, that the general tone and atmosphere in World of Warships is somehow gentler and less prone to reflexive abuse.

I guess there is little point to this post other than to hold out my hand to all of you people out there who, by your enthusiasm and good nature, make the online community into a better place. Thank you!:honoring:

Like Procrastes! Of course there's always that 1 or 2 *erks around who manage to taint the matches with their whining (always for some reasons the firsts to be wrecked btw). But overall it's very nice. In much matches even the enemies compliment each other with good shots or dodges!

For a PvP game, I find WoW to have less toxicity than many other games in the genre. Sure, there are idiots, but there are also a lot of decent people around.

Just don't chat while fighting. I once asked my division mate to keep engaging an opponent in a discussion about one of the ships or something, since I had fired a spread of torpedoes at him. Some straightliners have at least some excuse for being distracted. He was a good sport about it, so all's well.

Agree with the op. I dipped my toes back in tanks just in case my clan needed me for the campaign and came across abuse, revealing positions, team killing and all the usual toxic chat that thankfully seems to be missing from boats.

I think there are lots of reasons for it but the slower game play in boats helps keeps the stress levels down and the soothing sea noises in the background must have a subliminal effect I'm sure.

This is one of the reasons I stopped playing WoT entirely a couple of months back (on my other account). The toxicity of that game is shocking, and I almost never see the same in WoWs.

I agree with all of you, we do have a generally better community. Long may it continue! :honoring:

I don't think it's the community per se as I'm the same person who after 45 minutes of tanks is ranting at the stupidity of my team but who can play ships for 3 hours and be complimenting the enemy for good play and having a generally lovely time.

I even compliment the enemy captain if he manages to sink me with an expertly executed killer move. Plus I watch almost all games to the end. I have found that going back to port straight after being sunk and try to battle again will result in dismal scores.

Yeah, I usually do that as well in WoWs, but much more seldom in WoT!

That missing letter might've been a "B". & my mother was a Cockney, & if I ever called someone, er, the "first syllable of the county of the UK that the town of Reading is in" I'd get a good slap around the ear.

To one in the know, it's pretty offensive...

\useless linguistic trivia.

The WoT game that made me quit went as follows:

I was in a TD, so a bit defensive at the start.

Go to one side, with a few others; other side gets wrecked, we do ok;

we push forward, guys from other side starts calling us campers.

We keep pushing forward, still being flamed (tell the guy to calm his tits).

Half of my side starts flanking the enemies, now having moved forward on the other side; I keep pushing.

Still being called a camper (I explain the role of a TD).

End up in enemy cap zone (in a TD), still being flamed.

At this point only ~4 players left, 2 on each side, I keep capping; still being called a camper.

One enemy shows up to stop me from capping, I kill him from within the cap zone. Again being called all kinds of profanities.

We win (because the other enemy is also killed).

Moral of the story: great game, still being called a camper and a noob.

Brings back bad memories of my own WoT experience......I'm so glad I stopped playing it. My blood pressure has nearly returned to normal. :)

There are very seldom matches in WoWs that will give you sweaty palms like I got sometimes in WoT. WoWs is much more relaxing (perhaps not in a DD, but that's not a class I play in PvP).

Wows is definitely less toxic which I consider one of its selling points partly because it's slower pace of game play attracts an older player base and I think it's not as directly competitive as faster paced wot so you don't get As much abuse from the entitled stats players as you do in wot which still happens but to lesser extent in wows. So you lost you lost big whoop id like to believe that most of players play this for fun not for stats . If you wanna play to win you can always play ranked mode or team battles. And because the tank skills are not directly transferable the entitled scumbags are mostly  sticking to what they know where they can stroke their egos in wot on how hard they carried which you can't do as easily in wot which relies on team play more. And obviously lack of widespread use of xvm helps a lot here.

I think wot has their priorities wrong it's not about game balance or gold spam and arty that's losing them players it's the toxicity that's not being tackled as well as it could be IMO.

Imagine how nice gaming could be if everyone did that. :honoring:

if I was still playing wot I'd be stressed on having to focus hard on carrying the battle In this I know I can't go against 9 solo and win like you can do in wot so as a result I'm more relaxed and just try do my best but don't get stressed as much. And there is nowhere near as much inevitable abuse in chat for having good stats or arty focus etc. Team killing is still an issue here as it's not punished as harshly As in wot.

I'm currently playing WoWS as well as WoT... and it is quite clear to me how much more relaxing and nice the WoWS community is.

I think I've only reported one guy in WoWS in the time I've played it (a few weeks) and I'm usually using 3-5 reports a day in WoT.

I have to agree completely. WoT has one of the most toxic and vile chat I've seen in a multiplayer game. Between all the cancer jokes, being told to f**k off and die for offering a suggestion when I have under 20k battles played etc it's very wearing and tiresome. Like when you get reported for outplaying someone and killing them, it's just like... *sigh* really? WoWS on the other hand, much more polite. You still get the occasional idiot in chat who rants and rants which I can understand sometimes especially when you're getting nothing but top of the team every game but constant losses which tests my patience to no end! You don't get the same level of personal insults though so it's much more gentle and polite really. I even get people coordinating in chat sometimes which is something you'd never find in WoT everyone's out for themselves and to hell with the team. The number of times artillery has killed me to claim a kill on a tank with 5% hp left.... just ugh.

The only thing that really grinds my gears in this game is people firing friendly torps from behind me forcing me to adjust course or sinking me because they're numpties - and this is in tier VIII and IX battles...

I remember my first battle in the Sims back in CBT. A "friendly" Sims sailed right behind me and unleashed a full salvo of torps right into me.....and then told me I was in his way. Ahhhh, good times :P

Still, I have also heard tales of WoWs players receiving a lot of sincere apologies in that same situation. The radio message "Sunk you - so sorry!" is almost poetic!

Yes, I have seen things like that happen a couple of times. There have also been a few occasions of having a laugh with the enemy team when something funny or interesting happens. Times like that I am glad there is the compliments system.

World of Warships IMO generally attracts more mature players since it's more about tactics and strategy and has a bit slower pace compared to WoT.

WoT feels more action oriented to be honest, and I've seen WoT games been either won or decided faster then even the first ship is sunk in some WoWs games.
