Something I got to thinking about: Mikasa's main belt armour is quite thin for a pre-dreadnought, presumably since she used better materials, with the weight saved making her relatively fast for a ship of her type. In game of course the armour type is almost certainly not accounted for, only thickness; so it would be interesting to see how another tier 2 pre-dreadnought of older construction with over 450mm of armour (thicker than Yamato's) could take from other battleships trying to citadel her. USS Indiana (BB-1) had 460mm, though it was placed too low to be effective since she went overweight during construction. However, since WG/Lesta have a habit of raising battleships to their light load levels, this armour could actually end up being very well placed in-game.

Also, has anyone posted a picture of Nebraska yet?

I want her just for the funky camo! Oh, and the equally funky turret layout; she has smaller turrets literally on top of the main ones (wonder how that'd work when the bottom one gets knocked out).

URGENT DISPATCH TO THE FLEET

Ahoy captains of the fleet. Just wanted to make you all aware the first of (hopefully) a few events I am organising for the society

will be taking place during July. I have not finalised any exact dates yet but keep an eye out on this thread and the main forum next month.

I hope you will all get an chance to join in and there will be a few prizes for you to win in a

couple of different categories, so you wont need to own a Mikasa to take part and win stuff.

Hope to see you all at sea in the near future :honoring:

Edit: Just a quick note, one of the categories will require you to have replays enabled in order to send to me. :)

Yesterday, I had a game in the Mikasa where the better part of my main gun shots actually landed on target. Three highlights from that battle:

1. A destroyer shot HE at me and set me on fire. I shot HE back at him and wiped him off the face of the ocean. Sometimes I wish we had web cams active during battles; I would have loved to see that captain's face.

2. A little Novik cruiser drove up and laid himself alongside me to exchange broadsides... at 2 km range. Ten Mike Yankee Soxixis... Soxisix... Close Combat Expert Flags for the depot; thank you kindly!

3. At the end of the battle, which we lost, I faced off against a South Carolina. I tried to get within ramming distance, all the while firing AP and HE shots alternately (tip: go for the HE), which led to a fun scene with the Mikasa chasing that big bad yankee battleship around the ring for a while. Until another destroyer sneaked up and shot me in the back... I sank burning into the waves, but it still felt like a victory to me.

IJN Mikasa was built in the UK along similar design to the HMS Formidable class (London & Queen sub classes). The big advancement in these over the preceding Majestic & Canopus class (HMS Canopus famously firing the first shots of the battle of Falklands 1914) is the use of Krupp armour, which you correctly assess as being "thinner" but allowing same strength of preceding armour types.

I visited Yokosuka on HMS INVINCIBLE in 1992, berthed in sight of this fine ship, but as a youngster was more interested in beer etc rather than the chance of a lifetime opportunity to visit....D'oh!

Greetings all, Could you sign me up as well. Mikasa is a very interesting ship. :honoring:

Not a problem, welcome to the fleet captain! :honoring:

Keep an eye out on the thread, there will be an event for members of the society at some point during July. :)

I can understand that, young sailors would hardly want to spend their time ashore looking at historical ships rather than relaxing. :)

Good morning captains :honoring:

Just a quick update about the event. I am currently trying to get my private messaging situation sorted out with support, so hopefully that will be done sooner rather than later.

Organising and running the event without the ability to PM will be a nightmare so if they fix it soon, I hope the event will still be going ahead roughly around the middle of July.

I will keep you all updated once I know more. :)

Update 2

WG support have re-enabled my PMs and everything is working again. So keep an eye out in about 2 weeks time for the event announcement! :honoring:

Update 3

Sorry captains but due to work and family commitments I am having to postpone the contest until the 1st of August. But the good news is that I now have the 1st as a concrete date.

Also a little info on the contest. There will be 4 categories you can participate in and each one will have a couple of prizes that the winner of each one can choose from (from the premium shop).

While this contest is mainly for members of the society, there will be an opportunity for anyone in the EU community to win a prize. Obviously these prizes are going to be for EU server players only.

As I said, sorry about the delay but I look forward to seeing you all on the 1st of August for the contest launch. :honoring:

Oooh nice. Really looking forward to August now :)

Also, I just had a great game in the Mikasa. Our team had 2 Mikasa's, the enemy 1 (also the most Mikasa's I ever saw in a battle). We stuck together for a rain of secondary fire and quickly took out the enemy Mikasa :izmena:

After that I Close Quater Expert-ed a sneaking-up-on-me Tachibana and a poor Erie. And I landed two citadels on a 8 km away Dresden    obviously 't was a devastating strike

Awesome game, too bad I don't have replays enabled :(

Two Mikasas with secondaries blazing....

Great sounding battle, you really need to get those replays enabled (especially as it could help you win a prize!) :B
