Getting into team-battles as a casual player?

I've tried a few times to participate as a merc in team-battles, but the waiting time has always been so long that I have given up and just run random instead.

 

I've got at most about an hour before bedtime every other day to play, so spending too much of it waiting feels kind of pointless.

 

So, how to find a team?
