HMS Porcupine... With two slots, for HMS Pork & HMS Pine.

300px-The_Royal_Navy_during_the_Second_W

300px-HMS_Porcupine_(G93).jpg

A P-class destroyer, she was sliced in half by a torpedo hit from U-602. By miracle, the torpedo missed all vital components, but sliced the ship nearly in two. So after jettisoning all extras to reduce top-heavyness, she Algeria, declared a total loss, and then finally cut in half, both halves ballasted, and towed to the UK for use as accommodation hulks. They were scrapped in 1947.

I wonder what the ship in the background is?  Looks rather like a "Revenge" class to me. HMS Resolution maybe?,

Barham. 132.76% sure.

I concur

Thank You to all the enthusiasts for putting my mind at rest. I hate mysteries.

Lovely view of Grand Harbour. I can't look at that paticular view without seeing the oil tanker "Ohio" limping into port during Operation Pedestal (Or the "Santa Maria Convoy" as the Maltese call it - a better description IMHO).

Barham didn't arrive in Malta until June, 4 months after the accident. Royal Oak was there but has slightly a different mast.

Maybe the photo was taken just before Worcester was about go back to Portsmouth or get fixed?

Uggh, this is making me want the RN even more! Stop posting interesting stuff!

You're doing much better than me with images like these. Whenever I see a warship in the colors of the neutrality patrol, I have very mixed feelings to say the least :(

Yes the dates are weird but trust uncle Archi, it really IS the Barham.

Alright then, next round of ID that ship!

2 more mysteries here. 1920's, Malta :look:

Just wanted to mention that, buried at the bottom in the piece on the Battle of the Atlantic (which mysteriously refers to Tirpitz and the northern convoys and contains some spelling errors) I noticed this:

"HMS Campbeltown - Last but not least, one of the crucial vessels in the critical years of 1941 and 1942 were the Town-class destroyers - a mix of US Caldwell, Wickes and Clemson class four-stackers. You may learn more about the career of Campbeltown in our previous article - and get ready to see her in game in the upcoming weeks. The time will come..."

Emphasis entirely mine. :child:

Also, without cheating and taking out some of my books, the above picture contains two "R" or Revenge class battleships. I wonder if anyone has memorized all the differences, throughout their careers?

Hurray ™

The first looks like Queen Elizabeth to me (big main mast, flagship of the med)

That's what I said :) The pic was just taken long after the accident, I just wonder when?

Yeah def QE first and second Royal Oak?

I was thinking Royal Sovereign so it's probably one of the the Revenge-class

Might have found another picture taken at around the same time from a different angle;

Very tricky stuff with this one vague ref ofc but now I'm wondering if it's not HMS Resolution?

FYI: HMS Campbeltown will soon be available for purchase for doubloons, from inside the game.

Hopefully people will start being patient now and we can get back to hijacking this thread with "spot the ship". Seriously, I love seeing all these pics. :)

^ That looks like IJN Haruna?

Is this another angle of the Malta RN ships, plus a couple more?

Superb work! Some great super sleuthing! Can't wait for the Royal Navy!

I have more Royal Navy Photos if we want to continue guessing?

Easy one, (I love the stripes on B Turret)

Yeah that might be a tad too easy :teethhappy:

HMS Hood, 1937 in the horrible (albeit nicely looking indeed) colors of the neutrality patrol.

@Westyll > Spot on on the IJN Haruna btw. I put the trollface next to it cause it's actually just a render. Sometimes I fiddle a bit :hiding:

I thought Haruna looked a little sharp, I was wondering if it was a trick question!

I quite like the Neutrality colours, here is the Grand Old Lady!

Just hoping you don't like the effect the patrol itself had on the Spanish Civil War

Here's a funny one btw. Guess it's what you get when someone talented but not into history applies the color brush :teethhappy:
