Not too impressed with this.Plays like a T4 St Louis or Aurora with the same range and guns, just about. It will do to get to the Kirov which won't be long but i certainly won't be keeping this.Being T4 this will end up in T5/T6 matches possibly and will end as nothing but cannon fodder.Still it's a new line so not complaining, just not impressed with this particular ship.

NB didn't realise this had 130mm guns so a tier 4 Capt with AFT would improve this ship.

funny that Hanze.... just played 1st 2 games... engine taken out 9 times in course of 2 battles by Bogatir's and Kumas...... would work better as a static fort by the looks of it....

1 st game, tier 6. Was raped by 2 Nurnbergs and they didnt use lube....

I have a feeling this'll be long an painful adventure.

FFS the amount of engine damage is absurd. 90% of the game you're dead in water waiting for damage control party cd to end. Its worse than German cruisers after the release. Last stand is a must have.

But i must give her that guns after upgreade are pretty good. But the range, THE RANGE!!!!

Not a bad ship , fire maker like omaha , very nice torpedo angles (front tubes), low profile ... BB and DD kiler .

BIG engine problem if you show it to enemy ..

p.s.

For better performance use Sabaton :bajan:

How bad vs. Karl...?

Entirely different league. For me anyway. Karl is in "unplayable piece of crap" department  while Sveta is "not that bad, I almost like her"

As long as they're kind enough to let You sail under 11 km:P Assuming Your engine isn't broken and You can move at all:)

How bad vs. Karl...?

Gamewise the Karlsruhe is synonymous for extremely bad, the Svietlana is another animal entirely. It has a broadside of 8 130mm guns, though 1 gun has a poor firing arc, a decent rate of fire (6 rounds/minute, 6.6 with Basic Firing Training) and a fine shell trajectory. Though the torpedoes themselves are bad (5km, 52 knots) you have two triple launchers on each side of the ship with excellent firing arcs.

The rest of the ship such as hit points, maneouvrability is adequate. Range is relatively short (though not as short as the Karlsruhe) but longer than it's detection range by a margin of approximately 2 km and can be extended with Advanced Firing Training. With Expert Marksmanship the gun traverse is good enough to keep up with all but the most violent turns.

The ship, as far as I can tell, has two major weaknesses. It has a vulnerable engine which is easily knocked out and it has poor AA defence, which may sometimes be an issue with the Langley sealclubbers roaming about.

Cheers, M

The Svietlana has MASSIVE problems with is its engine. If you get hit midships near your engine module (funnels) with HE, it has a very high chance to disable your engine. It can literally go *pop* engine gone, repair *pop* engine gone, auto-repaired, *pop* engine gone, etc. pp when you fight against something that's throwing lots of HE at you.

Played her fully upgraded with last stand and really like her. Beware she's no agile Murmansk so you have to think about what you're doing. But lots and lots of guns. Good for DD killing with hydro up.

Acceptable fire chance, decent arcs and able to citadel Karls :D

Probably my favourite tier 4 cruiser.

To be fair Svetlana is not horrible but to call her favorite? She has NOTHING to go on when faced with a ship like Kuma.

- worse armor

- less shells. Not guns because technically Svetlana has 8 per broadside to Kumas 6, but Kuma has 10 ROF. So 60 shells per min vs 6.7*8 = ~53.

- worse shells. Kuma guns simply do more damage per hit

+ slightly better trajectory, not very relevant at ranges that Svetlana can fight at

- way worse torpedoes

- WAY worse speed. the 29 Svetlana has is a bit deceiving. It has 50khp engine to Kumas 90 - Svetlana accelerates terribly slow (worse then many BBs), and decelerates at really hillarious pace - i found the only reasonable way to stop her is to run into an island - the "reverse power" is non existant.

- engine dies more often than on DDs, and the last stand does nothing - it has so low base HP, that reducing it to 80% makes the engine unable to move the ship (even if technically working)

- way worse rudder

+ hydro

Still she can be decent compared to Karlsruhe , but she is no match for Phoenix and is just a different league than Kuma. Grind and forget kind of a ship. If you liked it noodle, maybe go back and buy yourself Kuma again - with experience you now have you might find her a beast :)

I've had recent experience in Kuma and I just don't like her. The Svietlana (and possibly the rest of the Soviet ships) suit my play style. Which is "don't be first" :D

All the guns on the ship and dps with BFT and EM. And she really deals with DDs. Once I've learnt that no, I can't dodge torps like I'm a Phoenix.

This ship is the worst tier 4 cruiser by miles in my humble opinion. Incredibly sluggish, no armour and a very short gun range. I just couldn't work how to play this turkey. Kept getting picked off by faster ships outranging me, sure it has lots of guns but they are useless if you can't get near enough to a target to use them.

Well you can play Kuma like you do Svetlana, it just doesnt work the other way around. And she really doesnt have "a lot of guns". 8 guns is more then counterparts (talking about full broadside), but Kuma's 6, or Phoenix 5 actually pump same number of bullets/min, and a lot bigger bullets at that :). St Louis has bigger broadside at t3 , and again with stronger guns :(.

Actually Svietlana has a 9 gun broadside. The two rear guns overlap to either side like the Karlsruhe's front guns. Admittedly the 9 gun arc is extremely small (something like 20 degrees), but it is there. And the 8 gun arc isn't terribly great either.

But she isn't a ship for broadsides, she is a ship for frontal attacks. Her torpedo arcs and insane frontal gun arcs makes her a fearsome foe when going at an enemy.

What I mean about her frontal gun arcs isn't that the guns overlap (they do, but in a very limited way) like on Omaha, but that the distance between a 7 gun broadside on one side is very short from a similar 7 gun broadside to the other side. Of course the front turret is shared, but you can effectively present the enemy with 13 guns, which is not bad at all.

I really like that ship. It went up straight to my favorite tier4. On its own tier very nice ship but if you get on tier6 match it starts to lack quite badly. Hell, it even lacks at tiet5, i dont have AFT yet so huge problem. Range 11,4km? Nothing to write home about. Torpedo systems are quite fantastic when lurking behind islands or make yolo attacks agains BBs. Arc is great, you can almost shoot ships that are front of you. And reload is.. if i remember correctly 35sec. Wooohoo! Overall very fun ship to play and it starts to really shine with AFT.

I have nice Svietlana replay on my youtube channel. Check it out and tell me what you think about it :)

Channel name is Lakes. Sorry i dont know how to add link with phone. You'll just have to do it manually :-/

Anyway have a nice time with new Russian cruisers ;)

Kuma, is still the queen of tier 4 ships, but Sveta might be pretty good once my ex-Gnevny captain completes his retraining.

Mixed opinions. Well I like her. I think it's play style and personal preference.

I think it is down to different MM experiences. Svietlana scales incredibly badly, much worse than the other T4 cruisers. So when she gets put into a T6 game, she is a painboat. Meanwhile in a T4 game she will have a really nice time due to interesting quirks. Thus if you have an experience of more uptiered games, then obviously she will feel worse than the other cruisers, while if you are more lucky and she stays at T4, she will feel perfectly all right.
