Update 0.9.2 will begin the European event arc with early access to European destroyers

New "European" camouflage, containers, and European tokens are added to the game. Received tokens can be exchanged for consecutive bundles with early access to European destroyers. There are five consecutive bundles: you get the Tier V destroyer from the first, the Tier VI from the second and so on until Tier IX.
You can also exchange European tokens for various rewards in the Armory, including doubloons and days of Premium account.

A new port - Fjord - will be added into the game.

WG_SPB_WoWs_screenshots_fjord_EN_1920x1080.jpg

European emblems will also be added. They will be received in the same way as the emblems of other nations: winning a set number of battles while being one of the top XP earners on your team.

Other improvements

On the 4th of April, there will be a Clan Brawl on Tier X ships in a "4 vs 4" format with one ship of each class in each team. Battles will be fought within a reduced combat area on existing maps.

Collection dedicated to the King of the Sea tournament will be added into the game.

The following maps have been reworked to accommodate the new lighting model and enhanced HDR technology: Ice Islands, Strait, Tears of the Desert, Mountain Range; as well as the ports of New York, Zipangu, and Hawaii. The spring version of "Zipangu" and the summer version of "New York" are returned to the game.

New European unique historical commander Jerzy Włodzimierz Świrski is added to the game.

WG_WOWS_SPB_Art_jerzy_swirski_eu_EN_1920x1080.jpg

He has two unique talents:

  • The first reduces torpedo tubes' reload time by 5% after receiving 8 "Torpedo hit" ribbons. This talent can be activated repeatedly in a battle.
  • The second increases continuous AA damage by 10% after receiving 20 "Aircraft shot down" ribbons. This talent can be activated once per battle.

Jerzy Włodzimierz Świrski also has an improved " Adrenaline Rush" skill, which increases the reload time of all the ship's armament and aircraft speed by 0.25% instead of 0.2% for each 1% of the total HP lost.

European cruiser Gryf, tier I:

Guns changed from 4x1 120 mm to 2x1, 2x2 120 mm. Other parameters do not change.

Gryf received her historical armament.

Earlier, we announced some upcoming changes to the matchmaker which are designed to reduce the number of aircraft carriers on tier IV-V battles. Today, we are ready to share the details of the updated matchmaker system, which is currently in testing.

With the matchmaker update, special settings will be applied for all battles of all tiers, which will limit the maximum number of ships of a certain level and class:

  • A fixed limit is set on the number of ships of a certain class:
    • With the change, the presence of aircraft carriers in battles will become more stable, but the number of battles with two aircraft carriers per team will be significantly reduced. We also plan to completely eliminate battles with three aircraft carriers, but this change requires additional testing and we will report on its results at a later date.
    • The number of destroyers in a battle will not exceed 4 - 6 for tier V-X battles per team. For tier X battles, the maximum number of destroyers will be four per team, under normal circumstances of saturation of the matchmaker queue.
    • The number of battleships in a battle will not exceed 5 - 6 for tier V-X battles per team. For tier X battles, the maximum number of battleships will be five per team, under normal circumstances of saturation of the matchmaker queue.
    • The number of cruisers in a battle is not limited.
  • A limit is set on the number of ships 2 tiers lower than the tier of battle. This will avoid cases when the player, for example, is the only tier V in a battle dominated by tier VII ships.

Each tier of battle will have specific limits to class and tier which will change depending on the waiting time in the queue: the longer the waiting time, the softer the limitations become. This is done so that the first players in the matchmaking queue don't have to wait long periods of time for the limits to be met; while at the same time maintaining the maximum level of comfort of team compositions.

As an example, see the settings below for tier V battles (battles involving tier IV-V ships) and tier X battles (battles involving tier VIII-X ships):

WG_SPB_WoWs_Infographic_Matchmaker_Supertest_092_1920x1080_EN.jpg

The detailed settings of the matchmaker for each tier of battles will be announced later and may change during testing.

New settings for the minimum time between plane attacks will be tested on the 0.9.2 Public test.

  • The minimum time between attacks for bomber squadrons except Indomitable increased depending on the Tier and specific aircraft carrier;
  • British bombers except Indomitable have their acceleration time and acceleration coefficient right after they drop their bombs increased, meaning they will accelerate to a higher speed directly after a drop. This will make it easier to conduct the next attack.

These changes will fix the situation where it was possible to bypass enemy AA defenses by using the temporary invulnerability state directly after the previous attack.

On the second stage of 0.9.2 Public test, we've changed the characteristics of several ships, having analyzed their combat performance and taken player feedback into account. Such changes were required in order to carefully adjust the balance of selected warships. We'll continue to introduce changes in the updates that will follow, if deemed necessary.

American battleship Arkansas Beta, Tier IV:

  • The possibility to mount the "Ship Consumables Modification 1" upgrade is added

Soviet cruiser Aurora, Tier III:

  • Turret traverse speed increased from 5.0 to 5.1 degrees per second.

Soviet battleship Sinop, Tier VII:

  • Sigma parameter reduced from 1.55 to 1.50

Soviet battleship Kremlin, Tier X:

  • Sigma parameter reduced from 1.85 to 1.80

American cruiser Atlanta, Tier VII:

  • Main battery reload time reduced from 5.0 to 4.9 s.

American cruiser Flint, Tier VII:

  • Main battery reload time reduced from 5.0 to 4.9 s.

British destroyer Jutland, Tier IX:

  • Main battery reload time increased from 4.0 to 4.1 s;
  • Torpedo tubes reload time increased from 120 to 122 s.

British destroyer Daring, Tier X:

  • Main battery reload time increased from 2.5 to 2.6 s;
  • Torpedo tubes reload time increased from 120 to 122 s.

Japanese aircraft carrier Hakuryu, Tier X:

  • Attack aircraft damage reduced from 3,350 to 3,250.

American destroyer Gearing, Tier X:

  • Researchable torpedo tubes reload time reduced from 118 to 116 s.

British destroyer Valkyrie, Tier III:

  • Main battery reload time increased from 5.0 to 5.2 s;
  • Torpedo tubes reload time increased from 41 to 43 s.

British battleship Orion, Tier IV:

  • Base firing range reduced from 15.18 to 14.7 km.

Pan-Asian destroyer Hsienyang, Tier VIII:

  • Researchable torpedo tubes reload time reduced from 119 to 117 s.

Pan-Asian destroyer Chung Mu, Tier IX:

  • Torpedo tubes reload time reduced from 119 to 117 s.

Pan-Asian destroyer Yueyang, Tier X:

  • Torpedo tubes reload time reduced from 142 to 139 s.

Aircraft:

  • Spotting range of aircraft carrier squadrons, Patrol Fighters, Catapult Fighters, and Spotting Aircraft decreased from 19 to 18 km (This characteristic determines at what distance the aircraft is capable of spotting an enemy).

The "Inertia fuse for HE shells" skill is changed as follows

  • With the skill, The boost to HE shell armor penetration will be reduced from 30% to 25% for Tier VIII - X ships

Due to the fact that the rule of 1/5 of the caliber was applied when calculating HE shell armor penetration on Tier VIII - X ships with 152-155 mm caliber guns, cruisers with 152 mm guns could penetrate the 38mm plating with the 30% bonus applied, which was extremely powerful. With this change, cruisers with 152 mm guns will not be able to penetrate 38mm plating.

The armor penetration of some Japanese ships' shells is changed as follows:

  • Armor penetration of 100mm main caliber HE shells of Akizuki, Kitakaze, Harugumo, HSF Harekaze changed from 25 to 30 mm.
  • Armor penetration of 100mm secondary armament HE shells of Ibuki, Zao, Yoshino, Azuma, Kii, Shikishima, Hakuryu changed from 25 to 30 mm.

Now the armor penetration of these shells is aligned with the new HE shell penetration of Tier VIII - X ships with 152-155 mm caliber guns, the same as before the changes.

The armor penetration of secondary armament shells of German ships:

  • Armor penetration of HE shells from the 105mm secondary armament on Yorck, Prinz Eitel Friedrich, Scharnhorst, Scharnhorst B, Gneisenau, Admiral Graf Spee, and HSF Admiral Graf Spee increased from 18 to 26 mm.

The armor penetration of these shells became the same as that of other 105mm secondary armament shells on German ships.

Soon there will be a closed test session for attack aircraft carrying armor-piercing rockets. Please note that if the results are positive at the end of the test, detailed information about the future usage of this concept will follow.

The mechanics of these new rockets are similar to that of armor-piercing shells, with the main difference being –just like with armor piercing bombs– that their armor penetration is not dependent on the distance they are fired from, but is instead a constant value.

As per the current concept, these rockets on Tier X aircraft carrier squadrons will be close to 203 mm armor-piercing shells in terms of efficiency against different classes. Upon hitting destroyers there will often be overpenetrations and the total damage will be lower than with standard rockets.

The new rockets will be most effective against cruisers due to their ability to hit their citadel and deal significant damage. When attacking battleships, most damage will be dealt when targeting the casemates - the penetration won't be high enough to pass through the citadel's armor belt.

The European update cycle continues in 0.9.3

In Update 0.9.3, the European destroyer branch leaves early access, the new "Strong in Spirit" campaign is introduced, and we welcome two European commanders: Grzegorz Brzęczyszczykiewicz and the unique historical commander Jerzy Świrski.

WG_SPB_WoWs_Art_Commander_grzegorz_EN_1920x1080.jpg

WG_WOWS_SPB_Art_jerzy_swirski_eu_EN_1920x1080.jpg

Jerzy Świrski has two talents:

  • Torpedo Reload Expert: upon earning 8 "Torpedo Hit" ribbons, the reload time of torpedo tubes reduces by 5%. The talent can be activated multiple times.
  • AA Guns Aiming Expert: upon earning 20 "Aircraft shot down" ribbons, continuous AA damage increases by 10%. The talent can only be activated once per battle.

On top of that, Jerzy Świrski possesses an improved skill:

  • Adrenaline Rush: reduces the reload time of all types of armament by 0,25% instead of 0,2% for each 1% of HP lost.

Ranked Sprint

From April 29 to May 11, the 11th Ranked Sprint will take place. Battles will be played on Tier IX-X ships of all classes in a 12 v 12 format in the "Arms Race mode".

Clan Battles

From April 15 to June 8, the 9th season of Clan Battles will be held. Battles will be played on tier X ships of all classes in a 7 v 7 format.

Due to the addition of aircraft carriers to this season of Clan Battles, we will introduce a new rule to limit the number of ships in battle: clans can go into battle with either 1 aircraft carrier or 1 battleship in the team.

We understand that the appearance of aircraft carriers can greatly affect the gameplay in clan battles. Therefore, we will closely monitor the results of this season and, based on the results, we will decide on further steps in the development of the Clan Battles format.

We would also like to mention that there won't be a discount on commander skills redistribution this season. This measure was required in previous seasons so that players could adjust their commanders' skills for battles where aircraft carriers were not a factor.

Exterior section update

The restriction to the amount of special and economic signals you can mount at once will be removed in 0.9.3. You will still be able to use only up to 8 combat signals for each ship.  In total, up to 21 signals can be mounted on the ship.

The "Exterior" tab has also been updated:

  • Pop-up tips for camouflages and signals updated.
  • Introduced an option to mount all available economic and special signals, as well as recommended combat signals for a ship.
  • Introduced an option to demount all signals of each type.
  • Mounting, demounting and changing color schemes of exterior elements can now be done with a mouse click on the corresponding element.

WG_SPB_WoWs_screenshots_signals_RU_1920x1080.jpg

Tech tree update

Added pop-up tips with the description of main specialties of different ship groups inside each tech tree.

Other updates

Added the "Japanese Laquer" permanent camouflage for the tier X Japanese destroyer Hayate.

WG_SPB_WoWs_screenshots_hayate_1920x1080.jpg

Added the "Victory Day" patch and permanent camouflage for the following ships: Alabama, Texas, New Orleans, Duke of York, Implacable, Aigle, Minsk, and Oktyabrskaya Revolutsiya.

The ways of obtaining these items will be announced later.

Please note that all information in the development blog is preliminary, may change during testing and not appear on the main server. The final information will be published on the official portal.

American aircraft carrier F. D. Roosevelt, Tier X:

WG_SPB_WoWs_screenshots_Roosevelt_1920x1080.jpg

Roosevelt's aircraft will have a solid supply of armament and a good amount of hit points, but low speed and an interval of 25 seconds between squadron attacks.

This way, Roosevelt's planes will be able to launch powerful but infrequent attacks on enemy ships.

Also, all the aircraft carrier's squadrons are equipped with a "Repair" consumable with special settings:

  • The consumable is recharged more quickly.
  • The action time is longer than on other aircraft carriers.
  • Restores less amount of hit points than the same consumable on the other aircraft carriers.

This consumable is not designed to provide effective defense against the enemy's AA guns during an attack, but will help to restore the squadron's hit points between attacks, when outside the enemy's AA zone.

Roosevelt's attack aircraft will also have special rocket launcher settings. Despite the large number of rockets in each attacking flight, they will be fired one by one and over a large area. Therefore, this type of armament will not be excessively effective against small and maneuverable targets, such as destroyers.

French battleship Champagne, Tier VIII:

WG_SPB_WoWs_screenshots_Champagne_1920x1080.jpg

The ship is a high-speed battleship with 2x3 406 mm guns. The accuracy settings of Champagne are similar to those of large cruisers. However, the ship has quite weak armor.

Due to good ballistics and accuracy, this ship can effectively deal damage to enemy ships at long range. However, Champagne herself is vulnerable to enemy fire, and relies on her high speed of 34 knots and the "Engine Boost" consumable to escape danger.

Also, Italian Tier VIII battleship Impero and Japanese Tier VIII battleship Asama will be added to the game for testing. These ships are based on the Italian battleship Roma and Japanese battleship Amagi, but with changed characteristics and consumables.

At the moment, the concept of Impero involves the following changes:

  • Impero will be equipped with semi-armor piercing shells instead of high explosive ones and will have "Exhaust Smoke Generator" consumable. At the same time, it will have increased reload time of the main caliber guns.
  • Asama is at an early stage of testing and her special characteristics will be announced later.

Two additional containers will be available through Twitch Drops on the finals weekend - one on Saturday, one on Sunday. But more details on that in a dedicated KotS article.

I can already spoiler that, there will be more. In total there will 8 containers available with KotS X - so you won't be able to complete this collection immediately. More collection containers will be available with future iterations of the tournament in similar ways ;)

Greetings, Crysantos

Changes in "Patrol Fighters" and "Fighter" consumables:

  • The detectability range of all fighters now matches their spotting range and is equal to 18 km.

This change will eliminate cases where a ship could be detected by enemy fighters after a main battery shot was fired, while the fighters themselves remained undetected. In addition, the action zone of fighters will now be visible more consistently on the minimap, which will allow players to better plan their movements in battle.

The base torpedo modules of Tier V-IX researchable European destroyers will become researchable. The new base torpedo module parameters for each ship will be equal to those of the researchable torpedo module of the previous tier destroyer.

In case you already have one of these European destroyers in Port, the researchable torpedo module will already be mounted on the ship, and the base module will be moved to the Inventory.

This change will make the advancement of European destroyers' torpedoes consecutive, like with other nations' torpedo destroyers.

In the second stage of the Public test for Update 0.9.3, we've changed the characteristics of several ships, having analyzed their combat performance and taken player feedback into account. Such changes were required in order to carefully adjust the balance of selected warships. We'll continue to introduce changes in the updates that will follow, if deemed necessary.

Soviet cruiser Aurora, Tier III:

  • Turret traverse speed increased from 5.1 to 5.3 degrees per second.

British destroyer Valkyrie, Tier III:

  • Main battery reload time increased from 5.2 to 5.4 s;
  • Torpedo tubes reload time increased from 43 to 45 s.

British battleship Orion, Tier IV:

  • Base main battery firing range reduced from 14.7 to 14.4 km.

British cruiser Hawkins, Tier V:

  • Main battery reload time reduced from 14 to 13.5 s;
  • Turret firing angles were increased:
    • Of the first turret by 32 degrees (for short ranges);
    • Of the second turret by 2 degrees;
    • Of the third and fourth turrets by 5 degrees;
    • Of the sixth turret by 36 degrees (for long ranges);

American cruiser Atlanta, Tier VII:

  • Main battery reload time reduced from 4.9 to 4.8 s.

British destroyer Jutland, Tier IX:

  • Main battery reload time increased from 4.1 to 4.2 s;
  • Torpedo tubes reload time increased from 122 to 124 s.

British destroyer Daring, Tier X:

  • Main battery reload time increased from 2.6 to 2.7 s;
  • Torpedo tubes reload time increased from 122 to 124 s.

Japanese aircraft carrier Hakuryu, Tier X:

  • Maximum rocket damage reduced from 3,250 to 3,150;
  • Chance of a rocket causing fire reduced from 15 to 14%.

French cruiser Colbert, Tier X:

  • Main battery reload time reduced from 3.5 to 3.4 s;
  • Restoration of hit points by Repair party consumable increased from 0.5% to 0.66% of total hit points per second.

Soviet battleship Kremlin, Tier X:

  • Continuous AA damage reduced from 433 to 412;
  • Number of explosions in a salvo reduced from 10 to 9;
  • Damage by shell explosions reduced from 1820 to 1750.

American cruiser Pensacola, Tier VI:

  • Fore- and aft-end armor plating increased from 16 to 25 mm.

American cruiser New Orleans, Tier VII:

  • Fore- and aft-end armor plating increased from 16 to 25 mm.

German cruiser Yorck, Tier VII:

  • Fore- and aft-end armor plating increased from 16 to 25 mm.

Aircraft:

  • Spotting range of all planes reduced from 18 to 17 km (This characteristic determines at what distance the aircraft is capable of spotting an enemy).

Researchable German Aircraft carriers: IV Rhein, VI Weser, VIII August Parseval, and X Manfred Richthofen, as well as the German tier IX Destroyer Z-35, will be added to the game in the upcoming supertest session.

As of now, the German Aircraft carriers concept offers the following peculiarities:

  • Airplanes have comparatively high cruise speed, but their HP pool is below average;

  • Attack aircraft use armor-piercing rockets. These rockets can deal high damage by hitting an enemy ship's citadel, but they allow for easy counterplay: when they hit at an acute angle, they can ricochet or simply not penetrate the armor. Rockets fired at broadsided destroyers –with their thin armor– will result in overpenetrations that deal 10% of the maximum damage. Armor-piercing rockets can also ricochet against destroyers' end armor when the ship is bow-in to the planes. Therefore, a player's reaction against such rockets should be similar to the actions one would take against armor-piercing shells.

  • Bombers use armor-piercing bombs. Unlike the Japanese bombers, German ones dive immediately, without the prior altitude gain. Their drop zone is shaped like an elongated ellipse, and aiming it during an attack may be difficult. These bombs will be most effective against slower opponents.

  • The final shape of torpedobomber's launching cone is similar to that of Japanese and American torpedo bombers. The torpedoes have a range of 6 km.

The stats of these Aircraft carriers and Z-35, as well as the Z-35's concept will be published in the near future, stay tuned.

Tier VIII Soviet battleship V. I. Lenin, based upon the battleship Lenin, was added to the game. The new ship will be used for partner collaborations.

In Update 0.9.4 there will be an event dedicated to the Early Access to Soviet heavy cruisers of Tiers VIII and IX. The permanent camouflage "Soviet" will be added for cruisers Mikoyan V, Tallin VIII, Riga IX, Petropavlovsk X, Bagration VIII, and Ochakov VIII.  The "Black Sea" Port was updated and renamed to "Novorossiysk". The port in its usual form will be available in the Modstation.

From April 15 to June 8, the 9th season of Clan Battles will be held.

From May 20 to June 16, the 16th Ranked Battles season will be held on Tier VII ships in the "7 vs 7" format. Just as the Ranked Battles format changes, so do its rewards: victories this season will bring you up to 4,700 steel and other rewards.

In the updated "Modules" tab you will be able to view upgrades and consumables of ships that are not yet in your port. You can research and purchase a ship in the Tech Tree tab.

The Northern Lights, Shatter, Sleeping Giant, Loop, Greece and Crash Zone Alpha maps have been adapted for the new lighting model and enhanced HDR technology.

WG_SPB_WoWs_screenshots_sleeping_giant_EN_1920x1080.jpg

The location of islands has been changed on the Loop map. It will make it easier to approach key areas and maneuver around them. The island in A7 at the border of the "Atlantic" map was removed.

WG_SPB_WoWs_minimaps_loop_new_EN_1920x1080.jpg

WG_SPB_WoWs_minimaps_the_atlantic_EN_1920x1080.jpg

The number of points at the beginning of each battle in the "Domination" mode in Co-op Battles was changed:

  • For battles with 3 key areas from 300 to 400 points
  • For battles with 4 key areas from 200 to 300

This will help to reduce the amount of battles which are finished when one of the teams reaches 0 points.

A new expendable camouflage "Recruiting Station", 4 new solid-color expendable camouflages and permanent camouflage "Nordic" are added to the game.

With the release of Update 0.9.4, Premium consumables will become free and standard consumables will be removed from the game. Thus, there will be only one type of each consumable, with the parameters of the current Premium versions.

WG_SPB_WoWs_screenshots_Consumables_EN_1920x1080.jpg

This change will significantly reduce the number of credits spent after every battle and make the game more comfortable for those who cannot afford using premium consumables all the time.

Premium consumables in the Inventory, as well as those mounted on ships will be automatically converted to credits. "More Consumables" containers will no longer be available.

Any of these containers you have on your account will be exchanged for 160 000 credits. In other containers and rewards, Premium consumables will be replaced with signals.
