Perrinu Weekend Tester, Players, In AlfaTesters 104 posts 3,921 battles Report post #1 Posted March 17, 2016 (edited) It has come to my attention during a bit of social media that the World Of Warships Facebook page has revealed unto us some new things. Namely two up coming Premium ships, HMS Cambeltown and USS Saipan. This isn't the first time the Facebook page was the first to reveal something, iirc they showed off the Russian cruisers (names in English) first. Hark you say this? Won't this be nice? 10 minutes into low tier battles 'n' chill and an enemy Cambeltown gives you this look. Run. Edited March 17, 2016 by Perrinu
[RONIN] 22cm Beta Tester 6,377 posts 36,662 battles Report post #2 Posted March 17, 2016 Not hyped. Campbetown will be screwed by the low tiers protection for noobs, so it will probably be bottom tier mostly, while Saipan will screw either his own team or the enemy team, depending if the captain is a noob or an experienced player. [HNS] Sonic_157 Players 727 posts 18,145 battles Report post #3 Posted March 17, 2016 Nice catch Perrinu! So, HMS Campbeltown will appear in her British configuration. A downgraded Wickes in essence. I wonder how it will play in-game.
[__] Kais_S012 Beta Tester 742 posts 1,694 battles Report post #4 Posted March 17, 2016 its missing 2 Torpedo racks and the rear gun... so in essence it's a nerfed Wickes class destroyer (which wasn't really that spectacular to begin with) its not even available yet but I already get the feeling its going to be the M22 Locust of WoWS, that poor low tier ship they keep handing out like smarties as a 'thank you gift'
Battledragon Beta Tester 615 posts 1,251 battles Report post #5 Posted March 17, 2016 (edited) Yeah they should go with the St Nazaire raid modifications, first it'd make it appear like a german escort destroyer and it'd have a special where it explodes when you ram someone so it can ram battleships to death! LOL Edited March 17, 2016 by Battledragon

Maybe it'll have a special where it explodes when you ram someone so it can ram battleships to death! LOL No, the raid modifications are very different. [WG] Tuccy [WG] WG Staff, Alpha Tester 3,516 posts 11,626 battles Report post #13 Posted March 17, 2016 I would say that an indication of torpedo performance is that, on the render, the bar for torpedo power is in generally similar relation to the gun bar as on stock Wickes. While this is still WiP, it would suggest that the torps have something that makes them twice as useful as the Wickes stock torps (as half the mounts has similar rating) Also do not forget that there is this big black stamp on the render
[SCRUB] piritskenyer Players, Players, Sailing Hamster 3,462 posts 5,363 battles Report post #14 Posted March 17, 2016 The render still seems to have all 4 guns. What ai would realistically expect from a T4 bumped Wickes-class DD with two less torp tubes would be: Longer gun range or better RoF or both Longer torp range that would allow for off the bat stealth torping ( 7-8km/55-60kt/11-14k dmg) Reasonably good detection range Good maneuverability And even if she's not very good, I'll buy her, because, well... British.

And if this is true, will it be a pattern for British destroyers in general? Falling somewhere between the IJN and US ones as torp-boats. Good torps, stealth and usable guns? Battledragon Beta Tester 615 posts 1,251 battles Report post #23 Posted March 18, 2016 No, the raid modifications are very different. Yeah I realised it hadn't got those mods almost as soon as I posted and corrected it. Would have been funny but yeah, since it had hardly any guns left I can see why it didn't get that mod. even if having the ability to ram and explode a battleship with a destroyer would have been funny, that would essentially be all it could do. Tuccy mentioned operation Chariot, which means that, in this particular quote, he was referring to Campbeltown, not Saipan .
