Hello Captains!

I am here to talk to you about a training/learning community I would like to build for World of Warships, based off the concept of the World of Tanks community the Specialists Global Tank Academy. We even share the same teamspeak!

Our goal is to be able to provide a learning community of players that are willing to teach and explain to players how the game works, be it from the basics of shooting, down to the intricate and constantly evolving meta of the game.

Who am I?

I am Strangers123.

Before I started playing World of Warships I played World of tanks, and eventually found out about SGTA, the training community that inspired me to create one for World of Warships as well.

Overall, as of the time I write this I have over 2000 games played post game release decently split over the different ship classes, and some more from the Closed Beta period, and coming as an Instructor from SGTA, I have some experience in...explaining...gameplay to others.

What is SGWA?

The core of the learning "process" (or curriculum) is split into what I like to call "Theme Trees".

Each "theme" is usually a 10-20 minute long "course" to cover a specific topic, such as "Manual Dive Bomber drops". Multiple themes are then combined to make a "lesson", such as "Introduction to SkyClick...I mean Aircraft Carriers" and would typically be around an hour, perhaps a bit more of time's worth in learning.

The three main theme trees are:

Introductory: where we cover the basics in a intuitive way for a new player to ease oneself into the game as smoothly as possible, and for experienced players to go back to basics with a class one might never have properly tried out. Themes in this tree are designed in a progressive way, each step taking your gameplay another step farther.

Open the spoiler for the introductory theme tree visualised

Gameplay: This is where we cover the more intricate details of the game, and where we explain more niche things such as AA tanking with planes, captain skills and the different builds available, what types of ammo to shoot at specific positions of a ship and so on.

Techniques: is where we cover (obviously) techniques that can be used to your advantage in game, from the basics of how and why we angle our armour in a certain way (AKA DONT SAIL BROADSIDE) to more fancy ones such as how to cross-drop torpedoes against destroyers with an aircraft carrier, how to evade torpedoes and some meta play.

Outside of the curriculum, I hope that people can enjoy playing with members of the community, learn the game (and hopefully enjoy it more)

Interested?

Requirements:

Tell ya what, there really aren't any. All we require is that you have a Wargaming account for the European server, that you can speak and understand English and that you are a respectful person to be around, both in and outside of the community.

Why specifically an EU account?

Its quite simple. We are based in the EU server, with our instructors and staff having EU accounts for World of Warships. Since our port and ships are based in the EU region, without having access to this it would be difficult to explain stuff on a different region without having access to the tools necessary.

Want to join?

For now this is our home <- Click for link to forum page

The recruitment process is quite simple

Looks kinda blank doesn't it? Thats because it is! Lets build a great and helpful learning community together!

Hi guys,

this sounds like a good idea and I'd be interested in being a guinea-pig for you..

In game name:            LMW
Age:                             52
Usable languages:      English, German, Swedish, Norwegian
WeekDAYS:                15.00 - 20.00 CET (am living in GMT+4, which is CET + 3)
WeekENDS:                Daytime CET
PVP battles played:     about 650 circa
Favourite class of ship: Probably BB and CA, not CV and have a too bad internet for DD (ping about 105 at best)
Favorite particular ships are Tirpitz and Kutaizov.
Winrate in PVP:           About 53%
Why am I applying to the learning community?:

I do have a lot to learn, that's for sure. Have tried to "march slowly" up from low tiers and don't want to remake the common mistake from WoT - to rush through the tiers.
I want to learn the finer tactics of how to use a ship in an optimal way, to find out its strengths and weaknesses and then find some good co-players to do division play with.
Probably forming a kind of 'combined arms" team with a DD and 2 BB/ CA's, to make play less frustrating than it otherwise at times can be.

Hey LMW, while its just a formality, could you please post your application on our forums?

Youre going to get accepted anyways but it makes things a bit easier for us.

Thanks!

If I wasn't bad at managing my time and wasn't slowly slipping into being a weekend warrior, I'd volounteer as a basic instructor (may do it yet for weekends). I'm mainly a cruiser guy with occasional BB and DD (both decent). For winrating, see my sig :D

Serious note: If and when I have the time and you are still looking, I'll post a formal application.

Cheers,

piritskenyer

Any help is always appreciated, in the end though its something you'd do if you enjoy it.

Is there a minimum amount of PvP battles needed to join?

I guess some battles could be demanded as proof of actually having game installed and working... :P

But really why there would be some requirement when purpose is to enable new players to learn how to play?

The question about PVP battles is there only because having it and your performance in PVP battles gives a better indication on what level people currently are, so to better integrate proposed training sessions.

ah, I see.

Haven't played too many battles up till now. I prefer playing in platoons/divisions, but that does not occur too often. But when I play I'm always interested in learning to become better/ to understand the game better (as far as the latter is possible :p )

But I guess the lesson system etc in SGWA is similar to SGTA, so that should be nice (I used to be part of SGTA back in the day)

I was not, so I am looking forward to getting SGWA rolling as I will need to 'ease into it'. Luckily, I expect strangers123 to be a benevolent deity and guide us in the right direction :great:

A fantastic endeavour that I am sure many new players to the game, or those that wish to try new ship classes, or better their general gameplay, will greatly benefit from!

An excellent example that will contribute to the overal enjoyment of the game and assist in generating a positive gaming community; good luck to you! :medal::honoring:

There are some differences to SGTA, as there is no battles requirement, and like mtm said, knowing the battles count gives a good indication of ones experience with the game, and therefore where to start. The winrate thing is kinda arbitrary though.

Also our lesson system is slightly different, but you'll recognise it

Ok, sounds good. I wonder what the differences will be. I filled in the application form on the site.

I'd like to announce our first scheduled lesson, and remind people, members of the SGWA community or not that you're always welcome to ask for help. If we're not available we will just respectfully decline.

the first lesson

(drumroll please)

will be about AIRCLICKERS Aircraft Carriers!

Details of the lesson are posted here

http://wowsacademy.mtm78.net/viewtopic.php?f=34&t=21

While members of the SGWA community will receive priority of joining the actual lesson itself, thats not to say that non members won't be permitted in if there is available space. Either way I will also stream the lesson itself at twitch.tv/strangers123 for you to enjoy

Information is to be shared! Hope to see you folks here!

Too bad I didn't make it... I was watching yesterday's matches and I'm feeling sorry for myself for not being able to play CV's. What's the next lesson and when?

I would like to drop in a reminder for a BASICS OF TORPEDO DD lesson!

And I guess on popular demand I might do another CV lesson sometimes soon! :D

Since I don't know how to put replays on here I just put it up on the replays website

http://wowreplays.com/Replay/3883-Sho_-Minekaze-Open-Ocean

not that great torping and I should have broken away more to try and practise the technique mtm78 showed but come on I got to beat up yamato's.

http://wowreplays.com/Replay/3884-Sho_-Minekaze-New-Dawn

first game after the lesson, ignore the replay glitch's if you get it I was using a tight spread not a wide one, I used the tips he gave but the phoenix and Wyoming made a fool of me sometimes and then others just herp-a-derped straight into them. Second kraken game
