What loadout do you want to see for the Saipan (premium mid tier CV, might come to EU eventually)

As we know from the great huge flood of Atago and Tirpitz after their release, that premium ships are rather important for balance and enjoyable gameplay. And as we know from the history of CV OP whine threads that lead to CV nerfing every patch, CVs are kind of a sore topic when it comes to balance. So, the potential release (unconfirmed) of a premium CV (probably at tier 6) has the makings of the perfect storm. So, please give your opinion of what you want to see from this CV?

 

I want everybody to vote, even if you have never played CV before. I am a supporter of all bomber loadouts for my CV, but I recognize there is a sizeable camp of CV players that like the fighter loadouts to intercept bombers and protect their team. So even if you don't ever play CV, this affects you. When MM has given each team a CV, what loadout do you wish your team's CV had? More bombers to sink enemy ships? Or more fighters to protect the fleet?

 

The numbers are in the standard format: fighters/torpedo bombers/dive bombers.

Oh cmon anything but a premium CV! I had plenty of bots on Atagos and Tirpitz and now the Kutuzov, and not to mention the flood of DD...Giving those noobs a CV is retarded.

There are a number of premium ships which operate different loads outs, Sims and lo yang off the top of my head.

 

Would be better if they gave options.

It is announced officially on the main page of the NA server site as a tier 7 coming this month to that server.  Nothing has been said by the EU server however, but why would NA get it and EU not, I am sure we will eventually .  I hate high tier premium ships and people using them to up tier as much as the next person, a solution would be to say that you can only buy one if you have played a certain number of games in a CV and own a tier 8 one at least.  It needs a different type of loadout from Ranger, but one that uses four squadrons.  maybe 1 fight 1 torp 2 dive.  I own a Midway which I now barely use after 0.5.3, so a premium US CV is exactly what I am looking for .  At tier 7 it is either going to have to have an amazing loadout like 2 TBs, or it is going to have to have 65 - 75 planes in total to be able to compete with Ranger and Hiryu.  If we limit the Saipan to experienced CV players on the EU server, why can people like me who have a Midway not have one, since I will know what I am doing

Perhaps they want to try out the premium CV idea on a smaller playerbase first? Not expecting Saipan on EU for the next two months.

Is NA really a "small player base" ?   If it causes problems they can always remove it from the game and refund people with doubloons and any credits spent.  CVs were never OP in open beta.  it was idiot BBs who insisted on driving in straight lines alone then whining on forums that got them nerfed for no good reason.  Midway also out damaged Hak because Hak had a viable AS loadout that can do damage (4 2 2) so lots of Hak drivers use that, where as 95% of  Midway drivers use strike.  of course dmg stats are skewed that doesn't mean one is better than the other.  Just limit the prem CV to experienced CV players, and there is then no problems

Why can I only select one option? There is no way WG is releasing a prem CV without alternative loadouts. I'm betting we'll see the original 2/0/1 and 1/1/1 loadouts, maybe even a 0/1/2

As Saipan will be T7, a 4 squad loadout would be fitting. 2-0-2 or 0-1-3. I would preferre the 3 choices like Ranger.

Seen some of the after nerf results? Torpedo aceleration is a sure way to get decent damage even with 1 TB together with the 1000lb bombs.

It will affect the mid-tier gameplay, a Saipan captain will either be a highly experienced Midway captain, or a complete noob. Now think that one team gets the first, and the other team gets the other, can you imagine the fun?

i think the premium cv shouldnt have any fighters. So the people, who is gonna buy this ship, should take the risk of facing an enemy cv with fighters. maybe we see less noobs playing it. so my vote is 0 fighter, 1 TB and  2 DBs.

Loadout as Ranger is fine for me. The ship should differ in an other way from its silver-sister. Maybe it could get AA-boost or a weak repair skill or something like that.

an atago or a derpitz can be easily botted, whereas a CV would be more dificult to write a profitable bot program for.

CV was OP in closed and open beta. I played the 1/2/0 Langley and seal clubbed a lot of battleships in closed beta. I also played through the mid tier Japanese CVs without ever wasting time to launch fighters in open beta, and I performed better in those CVs than in the other three classes of ships by well over 50%. I played Hak a lot in open beta and in release, and never used the 4/2/2 loadout, and only bothered to launch fighters when the opposing Midway wanted to sink me. I got pretty sick of the imbalance between the Midway that can easily first strike and hit 4/6 on 2 TBs to sink me, while I needed to hit 3/4 on my 3 TBs then set him on fire to sink him. A Midway + Cruiser platoon was autowin unless the Midway captain went out of his way to loose the game. I had enough xp to unlock the Midway, but I didn't bother because I knew this ship will get nerfed, it was just too ridiculously OP.

 

I don't think CVs are that hard to play, a prem CV is good opportunity to introduce more players to play CVs. The only problem is, if Saipan is capable of first strike sinking another Saipan, then a lot of new players who buys the ship will have a very hard time getting started in it.

Or you will see lots of noobs playing it regardless... ... and rage because most games will be 2 Saipans on each side, and you are being sank by auto drops. I want 0/1/2 with the new 1000lb bombs for DBs for tier 7, that would make it interesting to play and at the same time under powered compared to Hiryu and Ranger.

Premium ships should be worse than fully upgraded ships of their tier, otherwise premium ship would literally be pay to win, buying power. So to differentiate between Ranger and Saipan, they have to do something. Maybe different planes, or maybe different loadout of planes.

I vote for 1-0-2 (1 fighters and 2 dive bombers).

But i think that as any other carrier must have minimum 2 or 3 choices for loadout. As a premium ship may be 3 choices ... 1 with more figters (2-0-1 or 3-0-0), 1 with more torpedo bombers (1-2-0 or 0-2-1) and 1 with more dive bombers (1-0-2, 0-1-2 or 0-0-3). That is ship will be T6. Which loadout will be used is a players choice.

why did you put 3/0/0, we all know that that is NEVER going to happen, you will need at least 1 strike squadron.

If they are limiting Saipan to experienced players, then we will have already unlocked the ranger, so would need this to have different loadout options to make it worth purchasing, otherwise the only advantage is being able to put your 15 point captain in, and thats nor worth £30+. . Ok, if not 1 fighter 2 TB, then i would say maybe 2 dive 1 fight 1 torp, or 2 fight 1 dive 1 torp something like that radically different.  If you are going to limit it to 48 planes, then you are going to have to give it a much better loadout than Hiryu and Ranger because it has a third less aircraft, so it has to do lots of initial damage to remain competitive.   It will be nothing like the Saipan of closed beta if it is being put into tier 7.  CVs are an important part of the game but there are now barely any people playing them.  The class wasnt for everyone anyway, so WG needed to keep the regular tier line ships attractive to players, instead they caved into BB drivers who refuse to stick together and/or near cruisers in top tier games
