Alpha-flag gives 5% boost in ship- & captain experience

This is true for the RU and SEA server. Also for the EU? I don't have the flag (being beta), so I can't check. Beta does not give any reward it seems.

I don't see why Alpha players should have privileges in this regard. All flags should be merely cosmetic.

Those guys stuck with the game the longest so they do deserve something. 

5% is hardly anything to throw a hissy fit, not to mention that for those guys 5% is pretty much irrelevant. Nice gesture from the WG side, but that's all.

Lack of "Alpha Tester" tag below your avatar weakens this statement. "Weekend Tester" tag weakens it even more.

I have no problems with this, as long as alpha testers don't argue that income and/or xp rewards are "fine" in the future. This is a pretty obvious reason for bias.

The flag does grant an awesome boost of 5% to ship and commander XP. Yeah, that means they have no idea how regular players experience the grind down the tech tree... :amazed:

5% ... to put that into some familiar numbers: 1k XP match is now a 1.05k XP match.

 

If that's enough to rustle your jimmies I have to wonder how you survived the game so far. As someone who's not getting any of that stuff because I just started playing last December, what's the big deal?! It's not like 50, 100 or for a really good match even 150 extra XP is going to make the grind any bit less grindy. It's a drop of water on a hot stone.

I never said they'd have "no idea". But sinking or floating economically has small margins where 5% can be a big deal. Remember that the 5% is off base values, which means it will get inflated with bonus multipliers.

We're talking about XP only here, so it really has no impact on ingame economics.

What has XP to do with the game's economy?

 

It's XP, you always get XP after a match unless you've been AFK the whole time (and no one's sailed into your AA or secondary range, so you can even get XP IF you've done nothing yourself). It's not credits that you could lose if your repairbill is more costly than what you earned.

I didn't notice it was xp only, my bad. Actually that's not that great. The main perk would be extra captain xp, as you can't really progress without the credits.

I have no problem if someone gets more xp. the only problem I have is more or less with the lottery it took to get into certain test stages. And being in one stage is not connected to the games a gamer played. While I think the 5% xp for alpha testers is ok (oh the paper work ;) ), the weekend test flag is a bit silly in my opinion. And I will only use my beta flag if I have to play low tier for missions, so that I can warn fresh players.
