A brand new mode is being added, so you can create your own fleet and dominate the high seas together with your friends. What to expect?

First up, the idea. World of Warships is most definitely a team oriented game. Even battle-hardened sea dogs sometimes have a difficult time turning the tide of battle if their allies don't play for the team. This often results in some rather harsh language flying back and forth in the chat. Now, that's not too gentlemanly, is it? However, we understand there are a lot of captains among you, who are inclined towards team play and closer cooperation with your allies - and thus Team Battles was born!

 

After reaching Account Level 12, a brand new game mode, Team Battles, will unlock for you, allowing you not only to assemble the team of your dreams, but also to take responsibility for both defeats and victories into your own hands!

 

 

The Tournament Experience

 

When the developers designed Team Battles, they looked at how competitive gaming works in general. The idea was to make the rules as fair as possible, and the team management simple and flexible.

 

The battles are organised during the so-called Prime Time, which has been set for 17:00 - 22:00 UTC (18:00 - 23:00 CET) for the EU region.

 

This will give Teams the chance to resolve all their organisational issues and get their game face on in time. Any Team member can start assembling players during Prime Time, thus becoming the commander. 

As for the selected Tiers of ships allowed for Team Battles, we looked at the statistics and all the data at hand to analyse the best Tier spread for this mode.

 

For the first iteration of Team Battles, the spread is going to be between Tier VII and Tier VIII. 

 

The mode's flexibility lies in the fact that every player can participate in three different Teams as the leader (creator) or as a regular member. The first Team can be created immediately for a small amount of credits (300,000 Credits), with the second and third Teams costing a small sum of doubloons to create (300 Doubloons).

 

The process of Team management is designed to ensure maximum fairness and protect players from possible conflicts.

 

Accepting new players, excluding current or inactive players, possibly even assigning a new leader—all these issues are resolved by voting, except for the following cases: the leader names the Team and can recruit new players without voting. 

 

A Team can have up to ten participants, but only seven of them can participate in a battle.

 

Players can use ships that meet current Tier limits described in the system (this restriction can be changed sometimes), but no more than one aircraft carrier and two battleships can participate in a battle on one side. Four people (the commander plus three) can join the queue for Team Battles.

 

The outcome of a battle directly influences the main indicator of a Team's success: its rating.

 

So it is also noteworthy to say that the matchmaking system tries to bring Teams with a similar rating together.

 

 

 

Lone Warriors Welcome!

 

Our Team Battles will have an important feature: they are open to solo players as well. A player can toggle their status in the Port to "Enlist me in a Team Battle" - in turn, commanders can invite interested players to join a Team. 

On the other hand, a player can simply click "Battle!" and join one of the teams that entered the queue with an incomplete roster. (It's possible to enter a battle with at least three players of the Team).  Individual players that join a Team Battle are called "mercenaries" and are not considered as full-fledged members, however, they can be invited to join in. Therefore, the “mercenaries” function is a great way for an individual player to prove themselves and become a member of a good Team.

Mmmm First team for credits next one for Dubloons.. Good idea i think will stop people Spamming and creating hundreds of teams!

 

Restricting the times though. I dont see the benafit. Let it police itself! People wont try team battles at midnight if they don' find opponents!

Does that mean it costs 300K per session you do TBs?

 

Why follow tournament conditions? How mnany actually really care or follow esports? We just want to be able to get a group of fellow players and forma team at any time and not get restricted.

 

As Tobyjug said, we can self-police, it works fine in WoT and there is fun in meeting the same team again. Chance to troll/brag or get revenge.

 

Completely contradictory to get ask for lotsof new players to provide you witrh feedback yet placing so many "obstacles" to the the new mode that will actually end up only a very small sample size.

It is interesting that they chose a 5 hour timeframe for this (17:00 - 22:00 UTC // 18:00 - 23:00 CET).
Maybe it's a good thing, it will make it more unique and more manageable time-wise for the team members.

 

Also, the format appears to be the same with Ranked Battles.
7 member teams with Tier VII-VIII ships.

Are we going to get separate Team Battles statistics bar in player's profile?

Are players going to get an individual TB rating to measure their effectiveness in this mode or is it just for entire teams?

What's the problem? Why do you need to be the teamleader on 3 teams?

Does that mean it costs 300K per session you do TBs?

Can't compare it to WoT with a much bigger playerbase and Clans (!). I don't think it's a bad idea to gather the relatively small amount of teams into a primetime, at least momentarily. And the random mercenary system, which will not work out IMO, will at least have a chance.

 

And, depending on if there are going to be rewards of some sort in forseeable future, manipulation will be harder. And there will be clans/people trying to manipulate. If you played WoT , you know that.

"Four people (the commander plus three) can join the queue for Team Battles." Does this mean that only four people can queue up and the rest will be filled up by solo players? If so, that would ruin team battles for me.

You need a minimum of 4 and if you queue with less than 7 solo players will be added to your team.

Account level 12..? currently at rank 21, level 11, how do i reach account level 12?

 

 

We will have additional ranks (beyond 11) when patch 0.5.3 comes.

This will be within the week, probably when Ranked season 3 ends.

Instead of testing the new mechanics for a while and advertising the team mode to the masses (which are small enough at WoWs) WG starts right ahead with the "ranked elite version".

 

- Pay to create teams? Really? And afterwards you're not even the boss of the team but can be kicked out of it?

 

- Team size is way to small for fixed teams, even the larger WoT numbers don't fit the needs.

 

- Tier 8 (never field tier 7, the team-MM doesn't compensate low tiers!) is to high to get an interesting number of participants. You should have tried the first season with tier 6.

They didn't give us any indication of this.

 

Also, it sounds like they are trying out some rather interesting ideas. I would make the teams more flexible though - allow more members, allow more mercenaries, etc. Perhaps the games should be larger too. I thought the company format in WoT was ... well, if not great then at least pretty decent!

 

This is something they should have included at release.

Probably (99,9%) right after the end of Ranked Battles Season 3 (17/02/16).

It is badly needed...the game is dead without any clan/team fights.

 

Some issues though is:

 

Nekrodamus said it: imagine making a team, paying 300 dubloons and then you get voted out...does not make any sense.

 

Why pay in dubloons to create teams anyway? Is that to narrow number of teams on purpose?

 

How many chances do you honestly believe that 7 mercernaries have vs a team of 7 players that knows each other...ZERO.

It does not even matter if they have same ELO rating. That mercernarie idea is pretty much dead.

 

How is ELO rating calculated...is it biased in favor of battleship players or others?....

 

Tier 8 with 1 carrier, 2 battleships and then 5 bensons?

 

Is there any idea at all in having tier 7 ships in a tier 7-8 fight...does not make sense. That is only to make more games going since nobody would think that tier 7 ships can beat tier 8 ships.

Lots of very good points. :honoring:

 

It might make it interesting if the rules insisted on a minimum of three tier 7 ships per team.

(Also it would help avoid having too many Bensons)

If you want to critisize read the patch notes first. If you get voted out as commander you are refunded your doubloons.

 

And 300k is just a small credit sink to counter team spamming. Seriously... 300k too much for you?

ELO rating is the team performance over the number of games played. Individuals have nothing to do with this.

That is a cost for being an owner of 1 team, no matter the number of sessions. In other words, it is basically paid only once.

Though you may have to pay it several times in case you tend to be kicked out of your teams by all of your teammates :)
