Low tier keepers?

I'm wondering if I should face up to spending some gold and getting port slots as I am out at the moment.  I'm gradually moving up most of the lines, with no real rush to go very far very soon.   However unlike tanks, I'm not keeping everything (in that case all US tanks) so I need to pick some that I out to hang onto.      So far I have kept two elite ships:

Tier 2: Umikaze

Tier 3: St Loius

What else is too much fun to sell, do you think?   Only looking at lower tier, to tier 4 or maybe 6.

IJN: Tenryu (tier III) and Kongo (tier V).

USN: St. Louis (tier III) and Omaha (tier V).

While the USN has some good BBs at low tiers they don't scream "fun" until you get to tier VI.

You're not being very selective. :P

But I agree that there are a lot of nice low tier ships. I tend to keep most.

I can only speak from the German CA perspective, but the T5 Konigsberg is a great ship and a lot of fun. Nurburg is good, but you'll likely be put into matches where you face T8 CAs and T7 BBs more regularly which the Nurnberg struggles against.

Konigsberg is the one I'd go for, and the classes at that level are reasonably well balanced, so it's good that you're not in such a rush to get to higher tiers as at T8+ the current game meta balance is broken at that level, while the repair cost at higher tier is crippling.

Tier 1-2-3 is not worth keeping. After patch you will end up vs only good players in those tiers since newbs will play against each other.

This means that possible it gets very hard to get into a fight because most players will not fight in those tiers...so you end up alone.

Sell them.

Have myself bought 1000 gold to get 3 more ports...think it is worth it in the long run.

Tier 4 : Isokaze, Arkansas beta(NICE)

Tier 5 : New york(possible going to sell it) , gremlin, arp kongo

Tier 6: warspite, New mexico, Cleaveland...not sure if i should keep farrigut...it is nice

Tier 7: Colorado, perhaps arp myoko if i reach those fires...

Tier 8: North Carolina, Benson(both when i get there)

Tier 9: Iowa without doubt.

Don't get sentimental about ships. Be pragmatic.

Since you don't want to keep all ships, which I understand given the cost of port slots, I am assuming you are not a ship collector. Now ask your self which ships you like but which will I need to:

1. accomplish missions, challenges, events, etc.

2. stat-pad.

Most challenges and missions (except daily) require ships of at least tier 4. So while St Luis is great, it won't help you to accomplish those, at least not on a regular basis. Starting from tier 4, you need something to shoot down planes (obviously a carrier, everything else is less efficient in killing planes), you need something that can easily start fires (the Cleveland is great but will be nerfed in the coming patch), and you need something to score ship torpedo hits, so Isokaze or Minikaze.

For stat-padding, keep whatever you are good at. Check you ship stats. Perhaps its the Nicholas, perhaps its the Omaha, or the Langley? Just check for yourself. I would say, don't keep anything at tiers 1-2. Not because the Umikaze is bad, but because the noobs will be among themselves after the next patch, so low tier sealclubbing will be less interesting.

I think it easier for to list I did not keep/had to sell for slots... I like practically all of them. Those I retain at the moment are:

T2: Albany, Tachibana, Emden

T3: Wickes, Tenryu

T4: Pheonix, Arkansas Beta, Isokaze

Well I keep the premiums so I have the Iwaki, Arkansas, Gremlin, Yubari, Sims and Albany (plus Kamakaze to come)..

Just thinking of some more to hang onto.

I am waiting for a port sale because I enjoy playing so many of the low tier ships and also like to collect. However considering I have 90% of the tanks in WOT I am not paying full price to do the same here :)

Proper non premium keepers for me are as follows (no DDs and I only have one carrier)

Tier 1: why?
Tier 2: Dresden (emden)
Tier 3 St. Louis
Tier 4 Wyoming (I have Arkansas tho), Langley (my only cv, but she's a keeper)
Tier 5 Kongo, Omaha (Murmansk), Koenigsberg
Tier 6: New Mexico, Fuso, Nurnberg (no to Cleveland for me)

---and later
Tier 7: Nagato
Tier 8: probably amagi when I get it
Tier 9: Iowa

these are the ships I enjoy playing and are kept primarily for fun gaming, though they come in handy for missions as Babykim says - oh and project R had tier 2 and 3 missions, so you could keep one of each tier. If port slots are a constraint, then sell them. Buying them back costs very little and you don't really need captain skills at tiers 2-3

Current keepers:

T4: Kuma

T5: Minekaze, ARP Kongo*

Currently leveling:

T4: Wyoming

T5: Furutaka, Königsberg, Zuiho

T6: Fuso, Mutsuki

*Since ARP ships cannot be sold, ARP Kongo is an automatic keeper. However, it does make regular Kongo not be a keeper since it is effectively a Kongo with different kind of paint job.

Play them all and find out which you love to play, different people like different things, for example most people love the minekaze but I would always take a Nicholas over a Minekaze any day.

T1: -

T2: kind of Emden/Albany, would not call them keepers

T3: -

T4: only kept the Arkansas, still feels very sealclubbing, would go for Isokaze

T5: kept the new York and rebought the Minekaze. Will sell the Minekaze again when Kamikaze comes

T6: New Mexico, Aoba/Nürnberg, still not sure which is better, the Aoba has a very unique playstyle which can be very Op or get you killed very fast, depending on your team and their understanding of the situation. Same for Nürnberg, retreat is the new attack.

Hermelin, Erie, St. Louis, Langley, Nicholas, Koningsberg

Nicholas and Koningsberg I dont consider low tier but more low/mid tier.

And those tier 1's I enjoy the [edited]out of. Been a long time I last played them though.

Discounting premium ships and the ARP vessels...

Tier 1: None

Tier 2: None... Well, Umikaze if you really want to, though I do not have it in port.

Tier 3: Tenryu if you want to keep on a T3. Gameplay is a lot more interesting than the St.Louis.

Tier 4: Kuma

Tier 5: Omaha, Minekaze, Kongo

Tier 6: Cleveland, Fuso. For some reason I also really enjoy the Nürnberg and the Mutsuki.

If I'd go on it would be...

Tier 7: Nagato

Tier 8: Fubuki, North Carolina or Amagi.

Tier 9: Just started on the Iowa, a lot of folks consider that one a keeper. Seems to be a more powerful version of the NC, can't go wrong with that.

Cheers, M
