ARP ships - A Response Thread

Since the maker of the poll decided to leave it as poll only (not sure why if not trying to avoid counter-arguments to the subject) - I'll leave this thread here for any discussion of that poll or ARP ships in general. To voice my points in response to the original poll:

 

The player-base may be predominately male, but saying that pink is a colour for little kids or girls is a bit judgemental. It wasn't so long ago that pink was considered a boy's colour, for it's closeness to red. But the colours can't be changed; the Ars Nova collaboration is a joint effort between Wargaming and Arpeggio of Blue Steel. The whole point is to bring these iconic anime ships into the game as special reward ships. Therefore, they have to be accurate to the source material, in this case the anime/manga. ARP Myoko was pink in the source, same for Kongo's purple. More colours are coming; Yellow for ARP Haruna, Green for ARP Kirishima and Dark Pink for ARP Hiei. There's also a possibility that ARP Takao will be introduced, a tier 8 red coloured Atago. These colours cannot be changed, without going against the collaboration itself. Similarly, the voices must also be Japanese and female, since these are the voices of the actual characters. There was no English dub for Arpeggio of Blue Steel, so I don't know who you expect to voice them in English, aside from giving a tick option for whether they use ARP or normal voice-overs (but the whole point of these as reward ships is the unique nature of their voices and colours). 

 

This is just one collaboration of what I assume will be many in the life-span of World of Warships. If you don't like the way they've implemented this, then just don't use any of it. It's all free content at the end of the day, more realistic ships and maps and voices and everything are coming, just because this came first doesn't mean Wargaming don't know what they're doing.

They are Ugly!! The CA should have came with a commander with some skill points....

 

But as you say they were free it was a cool mission to get them  and i no longer have to keep normal Kongo to have a tier 5 BB....

 

I am also getting pissed of with the constant Wargaming bashing on this forum!!!

I dont think they're ugly. although... pink really isnt the best colour for a warship in my opinion. Kongou looks so much better than myoko

I do not mind the voices that much, they are kinda annoying but it just makes me laugh every time I hear them (can't believe some people can actually watch anime with those voices) but the Myoko camo is just HORRIBLE. My eyes hurt every time I look at it. I do not play with any mods but I am considering downloading a different camo for that ship (of possible).

The Kongo camo is fine with me tho.

I do agree, Myoko is not the prettiest of ships in the ARP series, but it would have been nice to get a decently trained crew with our ships. I mean, this is the Fleet of Fog after all!

I <3 me ARP ships ( even when I haven't really played them much, I think I played 4 battles with ARP Myoko max.. ).

You're not alone, I am hoping the same. It does break immersion a bit the way it is currently implemented.

I feel like the OP of that thread is so chauvinist i cannot believe ppl still can have that mentality of "im so male I have a profound voice" cause I smoke two packets of cigarretes a day... He can go to hell with that. I like that those two ships are free and I dont care that Myoko is pinky, i dont like it personally but its funny to play with something different, compared with all the 2-3 camos we can see in game per nation ,which is sick since they almost have all the same pattern. And sorry for my english, i write it as I think it must've said in english. (My first languages are Bulgarian and Spanish)

I'm not whining, I'm asking a reasonable question. We get free ships at Christmas which we can sell, I'm just curious to know why it is not possible with these ships.

Yeah, pink is the one colour I really don't want to be associated with a combat ship. Make it rainbow-coloured for all I care.

I don't think an official answer was ever given. But Kenjiro_ is right, despite his way of putting it. The way the ships are stored is unique to all other ships (since they are only displayed via the anime port - the name slips my mind everytime) so there may even be a technical limitation in there somewhere. Until someone from WG says anything, I wouldn't know, but it's just a fact we should accept.

One should remember that in different cultures the meaning of the colours will vary a lot.

 

Now, my ranting part about the ARP ships...the torpedo warnings....dear lord when torps are going past me I want short precise messages, not somebody trying to set a world record in speed reading a whole book.

I don't really care about the:
Cosmetic: I play on lowest setting for best loading performance (HDD) or else I may get into a battle after starting timer due to loads of mods.
Sound: my sound settings is pretty much none to minimal. The game doesn't need to sound so loud.

All I know that I have a kongo and myoko that I may occasionally take out. And if that Atago is to come out, well then I will get Atago without its premium credit income. Personally; I don't like premium-gated content and I would like that non-premium-class-ship counterpart to be researchable. It is better for the gamebalance I think because; none of the premium "unique" ships would be more or less OP / UP with a Gated-$$-Price-tag for its tier. Well it depends on its hull, and if Tripitz would be how much different to when Bismark comes out. Anyway, this is off topic.

If so more ARP missions are to come, well yes, more reasons to hoard pixel stuff and more incentive to play the game more often.

ARP kongo was fun when i drove it but wtf the length of chatting when hearing torps around and dammage. and since i can actualy talk Japanese it get exhausing realy fast to listen to the chatter as its like 80% uneeded chatting

The sounds annoy me.  But I deleted them.

 

And as much as I like my warships to look like warships I'm surprisingly ok with the colour schemes.  The Myoko perhaps has a bit too much of it but the lines look cool.  I certainly don't have some childish viewpoint that pink is for girls and as such it should be different.  I got over that when I was about 15.

This one, complete with complaints that all voices should be male smokers and that apparently those ships are meant to appeal to "sissy girls", while he himself is (ofc) a "mature man" as he is off course our moral arbiter of what can and cannot be done in the game and to stop it from getting too "feminine" or whatever he was trying to do.

 

I guess it's hard for WG to realize that most gamers are males, even more than that - many of them are +18. 

... and I like to believe that even young, boys are boys and men are men, not sissy girls.

 

 Not only is an annoying kid voice, it's in japanese, too (a beautiful language... when is spoked by men, btw)

 

Most army people (in special smokers and guners) have hoarsed voices, not that... "I don't know what candy I want to eat next" voice. 

 

Put your people at work and hire some real men with real balls to get the voices done.

KanColle would be interesting, but they're more limited with content for that than Ars Nova, since KanColle never really shows the actual ships. Sure, they could do voice overs, special captains (but how would that work with crew training for nations etc) but Ars Nova makes more logical sense to pursue than KanColle.
