Patch 5.3 stock Langley gets 1/1/1 deck - WG are you nuts?

Just posting here to ask if anyone has heard any reason for this?

Are they planning to introduce a tier 4 premium CV based on the Langley (before they nerf it back to normal)?

That thing was already OP...now it will be my new tier 4 sealclubber for sure!

Yea I only recently played through the Langley with its 1/1/0 and it was a beast.  Now some extra DBs -  thanks!

Never had too much problems playing against it, probably because it is mostly new captains that I've played against. I do not think a bomber squad will make the ship OP, but who knows...

Is the Hosho getting a bomber squad as well then?

I've never really considered the Langley OP. It does well for two reasons IMO:

Noob battleships love to sail in straight lines and eat 6 torps.

Noob hosho captains love to bunch their planes together and wonder why a fighter squad does them in.

I don't think it needed the DB though, although with such low levels of reserves those DB use up presumably 10 of the 30 planes instead of having them for fighter/torp reserves.

Edit: IIRC stock it only has 18 planes, so no reserves lol

This means an experienced captain has a unit of DB to terrorise low tiers, while an inexperienced one could very quickly have no planes, no AA (stock) and no speed (because a log would float faster).

That'll be interesting watching people cry because it's clubbing them, while others cry that 1 min into the game it's now useless

The new Langley will indeed be powerful for the sealclubber, but it will probably be bad for the new CV player.

DBs when used right are perhaps not entirely powerful in their own right, but they can add a lot. Used badly they are functionally worthless. As such for a new CV player the DBs simply take up valuable hangar space. But for the experienced player they add a whole new level of power. Also the experienced player knows how to preserve his planes so that he doesn't run short on his very limited reserves (of 4 planes per group), a new player... not so much.

This is wrong. WG talked about making CVs more approachable but less OP. This is doing the exact opposite.

Nope. No changes to IJN CV decks, only US ones. Note all CVs get their plane stats overhauled though.

Also the Bogue gets to keep it's 1/1/0 stock loadout. No 1/1/1 loadout for you mister Bogue! :D

It's not as much of a buff as you might think.

The new 1/1/1 layout will split up the reserves of the Langley, which has very few to begin with.

Currently it has 1/1/0 with 9 fighters and 9 torpedo bombers in reserve if I remember correctly.

After the patch it would have 1/1/1 with 4 fighters, 4 torpedo bombers and 4 dive bombers in reserve, which means you can run out of bombers very quickly, especially in a T6 battle.

So could it be argued that this may be a disguised nerf? Seeing as you will have less torpedo bombers in reserve?

(I would personally take more torpedo bombers over a dive bomber squadron)

Bogue gets much faster planes to start with, carrying both 9800dmg torps and 500lb bombs, ones you get from Indy onwards. So if anything, she might become sealclubbing material, together with Zuiho

Combine much faster planes with nerfed low and mid caliber AA, on ships that barely have any defence to start with... what can go wrong?

I guess the low-tier CVs will be the new Midways. :P

Maybe people were complaining to WG about how it takes too long to get to the Midway and WG thought "If they don't come to the Midway, the Midway will come to them!"

The reserve of Langley are 0/6/6.

The reserve of Langley are 0/6/6.

I was referring to the B-Hull, which brings the hangar capacity from 24 to 30.

I just checked the MM table, you are correct.

T4 and T5 CVs both only get matched against ships one tier above them at worst.

That certainly helps the Langley since cruisers don't obtain AA Barrage until T6. (Except for the Yubari, I think).

Omaha/Murmansk are nothing to laugh about either, but they aren't nearly as scary as a Cleveland.

if the patch doesnt change, i for sure will sell my elite Independance as initially scheduled, not to grind with ranger up to Lexington, but to buy the Langley back and just "have fun"

You guys forget about the tier 10 players that will sell their carriers and put their 15 skill point captains in a Langley.

Imagine, 7 fighters, 6 TBs and 7 DBs in the sky. The plane will be faster because no more biplanes. The combination of flooding and fire damage. The fact that the only that can kill your planes, is another Langley.

if i understood correctly there is only 6 fighters ? would be 6 F 7 TB 7 DB then ?

Nope. 5 tier CV skill adds 1 fighter and 1 dive bomber to squadrons, so Langley will enjoy 7 fighters, 6 TB and 7 BD

Hangar doesn't get bigger with lvl 5 skill, only size of squads. And only FTR and DB.
