Can we please get rid of detonation

Well, the title says it all, detonation is completely -

stupid

unnecessary

infuriating

game breaking (so many times people get detonated from 100% HP at beginning thus leaving 1 team with 1 ship less just due to RNG)

and may i add [edited]

We have ENOUGH RNG in this game as it is in shell travel trajectory, in shell damage, in torpedo damage etc, just remove detonation.

It happened in real life, so... (HMS Hood, Queen Mary, Indefagitable,...). It's not that it happens that frequently, I've endured it once, and made it happen twice.

When i run out of them i detonate. I kid you not - as soon as i run out i detonate within 4 - 5 games maximum 10. Last game i detonated at beginning of the game and i just used alt+f4 and cursed for a long time. That is just idiotic.

You detonate 5 games out of every 10?  So you are saying you detonate every time you don't run with a signal to prevent it? I seriously doubt your estimations.

Have been detonated have detonated people, it happens get on with it

If you are being detonated that often then you are doing something seriously wrong, 

sailing slow / stopped with your broadside exposed to the enemy ?

are you sure you are being detonated every time and not simply devastating strike'd

You know what guys, no matter how many IDIOTIC and NONSENSICAL things WG implement majority on this forum still will defend them. So be it - keep blowing up for no reason whatsoever from random RNG blessed shot and call it good game.

I ran some numbers and i get detonated approx 1 in 55 games played. And i play alot of DD's.

Checked your stats and your numbers are 1 in 58 games played.

Surely that isn't often enough to shout about it being removed? Chin up mate!

Sigh... MOST OF THOSE GAMES I AM PLAYING WITH FLAGS SO I CANT BLOW U FOR NO REASON !!!!! Remove from those 58 games about 50 and enjoy.

In ANY CASE blowing up just because RNG decided is IDIOTIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why cant you see this???????????????

No, it happens so rarely. Besides you are "safe" from detonations for 10 games afterwards if you use the flags you get for being detonated.

 

I have 2793 battles(about 1/3 in DD) and 30 detonations = not a problem.

 

Oh, and you do not detonate purely by RNG the shell or torpedo has to hit your magazine.

Torpedo detonation will be mostly luck, but shells are aimed and if a good player knows where your magazine are and

you are sailing broadside on he/she will aim for the magazine in hope of getting a detonation then you have the RNG, armour thickness, angle and dispersion.

I guess I'm lucky with my 1 detonation per 74 games played. I don't think I run the flag that much.

 

Most embarrasing detonation: taking a torpedo on the bow with a wyoming. I figured I'd better not take one on the side, and decided I might as well just ram the torpedo head first. Big mistake :D

The big problem I have with detonation is that it is not a fun mechanic that adds anything to the gameplay.

As it is implemented right now it just flips the balance of a game wildly based on RNG more than anything else.

get rid of detonation get rid of stealth get rid of torps get rid of everything but st louis everybody pew pew cannon fire 

 

ps: i have almost 3k matches and except destroyers only 1 time my ca got detonated and 1 time my fuso detonated by single torp... i am fine with it even it would be more i wouldnt care like a cryboy it is a spice to the game and i am strictly against its removal

What is the gameplay benefit?

What is the skill involved?

 

I will tell you, the answer is 'nothing' in all three cases.

 

Historically ships had their rudders knocked out permanently and engines got knocked out for hours on end (and often were reduced power until a port could be made). Surprisingly these things have been reduced to a 2 minute temporary feature. Why? Because having the engines knocked out permanently would suck so utterly. So obviously historical or 'realistic' features are not always a great idea. Given that Detonation doesn't add anything positive to the game, why are people so intent on defending it? Because it is rare? Is that really a good defence of a poor mechanic? Would you defend permanent destruction of rudders and engines if they were just rare enough?

 

Rare events are not less crappy than common events, because when they happen, they are equally destructive to the game.

I say no, leave detonation in the game. It is rare and funny. And yes, it happened to me more than just once.

The game server also crashes very rarely. I propose that we make that feature happen more often so that everybody can agree that it is a good feature because it happens so rarely.

 

No seriously, that a bad game design happens rarely is in no way a good excuse to keep it. Nor does it bring anything to the game except cheap kills and frustration. Compared to WoT, you cannot actually see when your ammo rack/magazine is about to blow up, nor can you reliably aim for that "module". had it 10 times and I have the awards to prove it. single 155mm(ish) rounds have detted my konigsberg and my minekaze is sucker for one 105mm round on the stern and BOOM.

 

... and I still dont have a problem with detonation. Perhaps happening a little less to me (I now fly no det flags on my minekaze all the time) but its still a valid part of the game.

just remember Admiral Beatties comment at Jutland ... "There seems to be something wrong with our bloody ships today", after two of his ships exploded.

What a bad comparison. As if a server crash was a programmable feature. It may be bad because you are showing others constantly your juicy sides. If it happens to you that often you should think about what you might do wrong while playing.

Btw, there are flags that prevent detonation. If you get detonated that much you should have a lot of them.

If it really wasn't clear enough, the fact that "it doesn't happen often" is not a good argument as to why detonations are needed. There is literally no other reasons why it happens except "it is cool" or "it happened in reality", both which are irrelevant to the gameplay. You know what else is cool and realistic? Flooding that cannot be fixed until it has taken X % of your health. There could also be added a listing effect, for extra coolness.

 

As for my performance, feel free to look up how many detonations I've had and observe how your comment is both non-constructive and irrelevant to the topic at hand.

 first of all calm down.

There are lots of things which RNG decides. I want my all of my shells to travel exact location i aimed for but no it doesnt happen. 3 or 4 our of 9 shells dont go to exact location. So shall we also remove that? We all get detonation. You are complaining about getting detonation as a DD. In last few days i got detonated couple times with my BB to a single torpedo. Its annoying but there are bigger issues than this one.
