Hi all,

This is really "friendly" topic so please no flaming/bashing etc. ... :)

What is the Tier ceiling of play for players that only do "Play for Free" (i.e. no "Premium" ever)?

Any experience? Any suggestions?

I am one of such players (I spend few doubloons, about 10+ Euros, only on redistributing my Captain skills) and I play excursively "Play for Free" without "Premium" account and without converting "Free Experience" with Doubloons 1:25 ...

I made money (and trained my captains) with III "St Louis" / "South Carolina", V "Omaha" / "New York" and VI "Cleveland".

I think that I will barely be able to break even with Tier VII and that anything above will have to be heavily financed through my money making Tiers...

What do guys think?

If you're good, you can still make money at tier 8. Not much, but you won't go negative.

Above that you will probably lose money in most battles, especially if you use premium consumables.

Tight Wad! If you like the game then invest something in it like the rest of us do !

Its all about how fast you earn cash, so you can play any tier.

Hi all,

Playing Tier V / VI is plenty of fun - thank you very much (even Tier III can be good sometimes)! :)

As for spending money - I think that with all the different options that exists nowadays I spend enough on "World of Warships" (and I will surely spend more but that will all be in the realm of 5-10-15 Euros)...

P.S.

IMHO, "World of Warships" is good, fun and enjoyable and I wholeheartedly recommended it to all my hard core flight sim friends (I am old old flight simmer that was involved in development and ALPHA/BETA testing of most older best flight sims) and my strategic wargaming buddies as well!

For me it is tier 7. Up until this tier I was able to progress on all my lines simultaneously, there was enough silver to buy unlocked ships right away. When going up to tier 8, I probably will have to chose a select few.

I am making money in t10 ships , not much, sometimes it is 15k , sometimes 50k, once in a while 200k. Yes of course i lose even in good battle i can get -5k , from time to time -150k . Overall i am still making money in t10 without premium, and t8 ships i use to make my money

If you're good, you can still make money at tier 8. Not much, but you won't go negative.

Ah and i run on every t8+ ship premium consumables , damage control on all , smoke and repair party :p

Tier 8 I make a few credits, at tier 9 I'm having to support myself with lower tier games (not got many upgrades on tier 9 yet though so that should help).

Tier 8 ships should be no problem for above average players. They easily can play them without having to play tier 4-7's for their  money.

For me it's seven.

8 would probably be on a small plus overall in my case, but it's not comfortable already, so i rarely show there, as i don't like losing progress (yes, it was also the reason i don't play EVE)

9 would be throwing credits to a dumpster, especially on "awesome" ships like Izumo.

im free played and i stopped at 9. (i purchased some duleons for module demounting) At 9, when you play well, you will maintain a positive balance, at least im managing in my Iowa. But comfortable is T7 or T6. depends on what kind of ships you want to be driving.

T10, but that assumes you do not play t10 exclusively...

In all WG games, the higher the tier, the less chance of making credits, even with premium, so you need to keep credit making vehicles at lower tiers, whether they be premium ship or regular.

It is entirely feasible to maintain T10 ships without a premium account, you will just need to play games at T5-7 to make cash.

Okay, so you may need to play ALOT of games at T5-7 for each T10 game, but that's the model.

WG are not here for the free to play players, they are here for the paying public.  No-one said it should be easy to play for free, if it was, they would not make any money, and the game would die, if it was even developed.

Put your hand in your pocket and support the game you play rather than moan about pay to play, The cost of a premium account is relatively low, all things considered.  How much do cigarettes cost?  Beer?  The cinema?  Other games (Battlefront etc)  No one moans about spending money on them.

If you enjoy the game, support it, if not don't...simples....

No, I'm not a WG fanboi, just someone that supports the game, honest...

Currently I am playing without premium. I used to when I was grinding ships, but now I play just for the sake of it.

So I am playing tier VIII right now. I never go into negative and I don't really care about credits. I think that tier is a limit for playing without premium if you are good and don't want to worry about credits.

Tier X as Samurai said.

There are people who made 100 Million with playing Tier V. That should be enough to get to Tier X and stay there for a time.

Nah I don't like the way they try and force you to pay (captain retraining, re-skilling, module demounting), so I keep my spend to the bare minimum (captain retraining).

The last free to play game I was into was planetside 2, spending money there was entirely voluntary (I don't know if that's changed in any way in the 2 years since I played) so I was happy to throw money at premium time as well as cosmetics.

I play mostly 7 (love my myoko) but when I do play 8 I'm yet to lose credits, normally +50k-100k

I'm yet to put any real cash into the game, not because I'm tight or skint but because as of yet I havent felt the need or want to buy anything. I'd buy some prem ships if the price wasnt crazy, I dont suffer from the "I must have a that shiney new ship syndrome" so dont get sucked into spending such silly prices for 1's & 0's I dont actually own.

if you play good, tier 8 will not be a problem. It also depends a lot of the class, for example it's easier in an IJN DD if you are good at not getting spotted (no dmg -> no repair fees).

The sweetspot is tier 7, but they are many bad ships at that tier, so stick to 6 or 8.

Anyway lower tiers are fun too. Also game has good rewards especially this time. I have no trouble running my tier 8s. I guess I would do fine tier 9-10. Make money lower tiers and play higher. Game is about fun not grind.

You can play far, just depends on the time you invest.

I don't use premium and I think I play since September with some weeks break. Atm I have Nagato T7, 3xT6 (Nürnberg, Cleveland, Ryujo) and since the new year i started the US DD-line up to T4.

So I think if you only play 1 line you could get to T10 in about 1 month without premium, if you don't play something else.

It is true that the credits will be your biggest problem, but you can play your best ship at t5-6 for a while (i got lucky and won the murmansk)

You should be able to play without premium just like you were in World of Tanks. All you ever need is a huge load of slots and a single barrack upgrade. When you go up the tiers, you monitor the income the ships generate. Most likely on tier 5 or tier 6 you'll have the greatest revenue, before repairs costs exceed the income of ships on the high tiers. You just keep the best ships as moneymakers and put new crews on them while you let your primary crews ascend the tiers. Due to constant balancing it can of course occur that your beloved moneymaker gets nerfed, accordingly you need to adopt to the situation and exchange these ships sometimes.

I'd also recommend to focus on 1 nation only, still being able to do multiple branches here. Without premium the grind takes much longer, so you need to focus.

You see, this is something i think the Devs (talking in general) don't get. Well, the Devs that choose this particular Cash Shop, meaning a non-cosmetic one, one that also provides things that bring the game to the borders of p2w. Here, it is not as many Premium ships are equal or even bad. An example is The Sims, compared to Mahan, same tier, Sims has better stats. That would make it p2w if it was applied in every Premium ship, it is not though. I digress though, point is, a good game, with depth, quality, does not need anything more than a shop with cosmetics. There's not a single gamer that would not buy cosmetics, and for many reasons. First off, it's all about the charcter customization. Think MMO's! Really, people (me included) spend hrs in customization screen. It's all about making a character you like. Same with anything. I think most ppl would agree there. Then, if it's a game you like, ofc you want to support it, and the Devs. Cosmetics are more than enough.

Why am i saying all this...because the issue presented by the OP is tied by this business model. The So-called Co-Op is treated like practice, lowest rewards a gamer could think, yet PvE is the juice of keeping you interested from the time PC gaming started 20 years ago, or so. Anyway, this is one reason why these games lose in quality and depth imo. Endless grind that many times does not worth the aggravation. Again, think MMO's, everything you do there rewards you, even junk is valuable. They have to re-think the whole concept imo, change the mindset, stop thinking "milking cow" and make games as a gamer would....The profits will come from a quality game too. Cheers and gl with evolution..

I get a positive net in a tier X without premium, but barely. You can't really save up for anything like that, so you have to play lower tiers if you want to build some wealth. But tier X is definitely playable even without premium.

Don't have a premium account at the moment and I seem to still be making money at T7 quite reliably. I don't have any higher tier non premium ship yet but I expect once I do hit T8, the "overhead" credits will be taking a nosedive, much like in WoT.

Let me tell you my program about playing high tiers and maintenance. While i am playing tier 7 (Colorado and Myoko) I am capable not to lose credits, even in good games i earn  some so in total my credits balance increases but slowly. When i play North Carolina (tier 8) i don't earn any credits and slightly losing them but i still am playing un-upgraded ship. When i want relaxed game with possibility earning credits i play tier 6 Fuso or minekaze. But most important thing is when i know that i will have lots of free time on certain days i buy 1 day of premium (250 doubloons) only for that day and i try to use it to the maximum to make credits. I would buy Murnamansk for that purpose as the best solution confirmed by many, but i don't have suitable visa card. I buy doubloons via SMS mobile and these purchase are much more expensive then via bank card.
