Remove the ocean map NOW!

First of all, if you're gonna have a game where all the ships, classes, weapons, roles and whatnot is chosen prior to which map you are playing on. There is no way around it, you're gonna need excellent map design. So that a skilled player can use the map to play on the strength of his ship, and compensate for the downsides of his ship.

 

The Des Moines for example is useless vs a competent Zao player at 15KM. On most maps, i can avoid getting in a direct long range firefight with an enemy Zao, Hindenburg or any Battleships who effectiveness completely outclasses the Des Moines at extreme ranges. Where i want to be is at 6-10KM, close enough so that i can reliably with my guns, but far enough away so that i can dodge torpedoes. For this reason, my commander skills and upgrades focus on stealth. So that when i am spotted, i am already at a comfortable range. Sometimes a Destroyer or a Carrier spots me pre-maturely but that is sometimes, the enemy made a conscious decision to scout an area an enemy may be in. There is sort of a risk reward going on, at least on the few well balanced maps. I can take the short route, risk exposure or i can take the long route, but that takes time my team may not have.

 

How does this work on the Ocean map? It doesn't. There is literally nothing on the map. No mountains, no hills, no sandbanks... nothing. In a perfect world, i could call on friendly destroyers to put down a smoke screen so that the short range ships could have a chance to close in. In a perfect world. The reality however is the fact that a large portion of the player base are useless idiots, and the only team coordination you can even hope for is that some ships agree who to shoot first.

 

This post is also criticism of your random spawn positions with little or no thought put into them. Wargaming said themselves:

''Bad advice: All cruisers are the same, so you can play one just like you'd play another.''

''Cruisers are the most varied class in World of Warships.''

 

Yet the spawn system treats all cruisers as cruisers and nothing more than only cruisers. And it treats Destroyers and Destroyers and only as Destroyers. The Kiev destroyer wants to go where the is allot of cover, and the Shimakaze wants to go long rang sniping with his 20KM torpedoes. Yet ships are just spawned, with but a single consideration.

Hu, Ocean is one of the best maps.

 

Stick to the BB and don't rush forward on this map, as in, you know, do your job as CA. That's btw not killing BBs. But escorting them.

I hate it how on Ocean all team always lemmingtrains on one side and completly ignores enemy destroyers getting on cap. But you can hardly blame map on that. 

 

Once I came back alone in a BB to defend cap, on my way there I killed Kongo, on cap two destroyers and I left German cruiser on barely few hp before I died from torpedoes. Our carrier finished cruiser and my team told in chat... "GJ defending cap, carrier". I`m highly alergic to this map since then. :(

I dont even bother reading, probably some nonsense anyways. Keep that map, its my favorite, actually I would like to play on it more often. I enjoy playing it in any class.

When i get this map in the New Mexico, i set engine to full power, set a course, leave the computer and go for a cigarette. When i return, the first enemies get into guns range.

I really dislike it. 

 

And while we are on the subject reduce the size of all other maps by 25%.

Map is fine, in a Des Moines, yes annoying but still fine. Maybe try to play DD support more. Especially if you have camo skill, you can follow friendly dd's and wreck enemy DD's when spotted. If you survive that then you can continue to wreck BB and other CA when enemy dd's are dead.

Stop blaming the map on bad game play.

Isn't this the one map that most relies on the team playing as a team? You know, scouting, identifying locations/forces and attacking. Unfortunately because many teams just don't play as 'one', this map can be disasterous for some. However I think it's a map that presents a nice change to the island ones. :honoring:

I still want a water-only map... Learn to play in it, just as in any other map.

The Ocean Map is a response of WG on the many complaints it got about to many islands on the various maps.

 

With every map you have people who likes and dislikes it. I like the Ocean map. As I have ships acros all tiers I don't play it to often.

I remember that, too. Then WG decided to implement it in CBT to test, if this would actually work. Apparently it did, so the map stayed.

 

I don't mind it. Sure sometimes I curse when I'm in a ship that has a harder time excelling without cover, but I curse just as much, when I'm in a map full of islands and cover when driving around in a BB.

Oh boy. Nice to actually see a Cleveland "safe behind his wall HE-spammer" on the forum! I think this map is awesome: it punishes bad teamplay unforgiving. Working together as a group is essential here. The already uncompehensible tactic of cruisers rushing blindly forwards in order to get sunk first and the rest after that doesn't work at all on the ocean. Indeed: stick with the BB's and push ahead as a group and this map is the most fun one to play. I would also advice the DD's to stay in the rearguard in the opening fase of the match. There's no point in rushing forward and scout! You already know where the enemie's whereabouts are. Let the battle unfold and sneek at the weakest flank to torp them to oblivion. I would also recommend even the CV's to join the fleet. You'll have the planes near the ship and you won't get caught with your pants down sailing alone on the border.

Problem is that THER IS NO TEAMPLAY in random games.

´The map is so bad in my opinion that i just quit whenever i get it. (Yea hate me if you want)

Problem is that in anything that isnt a BB and that cant shoot or torpedo from stealth you cant do anything.

You dont get rewarded for spotting or laying smoke to cover your allies so with my american DDs i walk out with 200XP or less most of the time.
