At first i was a little off this... i mean i just had to log in to Wot win a game and the Christmas tank was mine muhhahahaha.... but for the wows Christmas ship omg i got to work for it omg bahumbug.

 

BUT i really enjoyed the progression for unlocking this free ship. Well done WGing was fun

I was of the opinion that the missions were needless and did not contribute at all to my excitement or festive spirit. Plus, they were not interesting at all, just some arbitrary deal 300k damage, set 20 ships on fire, kill 10 ships. All of which one can do at once, but no, they had to be staged one after the other just to prolong it even more.

Only did the first 2 missions so far but am greatly enjoying it. They're lengthy enough to feel like an achievement but simple enough to be made by someone who works for a living. Also the reward behind an historically remarkable ship is very satisfying. WG can do this again

Yeah, they are coming, but I saw someone posted on forum a Q&A (on russian) and he said that they said German BBs will come in August...

With the Emden mission, having a goal has picked up my play.

 

I had got a little lackadaisical - ok, I sucked. But give me a target and things always get better. my average damage picked up, kills picked up, quality of play .... well, it didnt suck as much.

 

Thinking WG did better with this than they have for a while. A simple giveaway generates nothing except complaints (just look at WoTs recent giveaways) but the Emden has real history behind it with people actually working to gain the ship. I'll give WG a B+ on this.

I'm not a BB player, but love cruisers. I am also looking forward to Russian cruisers. I've been enjoying the German cruisers (on Nürnberg at the moment) and the Russian DDs (just bought Kiev yesterday).

 

So, yes, I would enthusiastically welcome German BBs and Russian cruisers. However, I would EVEN MORE ENTHUSIASTICALLY welcome some Italian/French/British/Other nations ships. 

 

ON TOPIC: I enjoyed the Emden Challenge. It is very achievable for the moderate player (i.e. ME!) in a couple of days play. Yet, there is still a sense of achievement in gaining the ship and extra rewards. I kept the Dresden because it is a fun ship to play when you are having a bad run. Just take Dresden out in a low tier game and get rid of your frustrations by firing away at all the Red ships! Now I can do this with the Emden as well - for a better XP/Silver bonus.

 

I hope that WG do more of this sort of challenge.

Well I personally was hyped for the Emden, but after I did these missions (took me a while) I couldnt get myself to play it. It may be my mentality that views these missions as "work" though, instead of a bonus.

I've actually done it twice, as I keep two accounts.

 

Super easy to do with cruisers, but not so much if you only have battleships: it's hard to set fires in battleships. % of fire for HE is much higher than in a cruiser shell (30% in  New Mexico, 25% in Fuso or Kongo), but for some reason I don't know, you do damage, you destroy AA or secondary turrets, but it's hard to start fires.

 

For future missions, I'd only ask for a large amount of damage done. Asking for kills promotes kill stealing, and fire is too RNG dependant.

Kills were a pain but damage and Fire was easy! 1 game in independence (elited it) so next game in Ranger got me over 25 fires

I liked it, encouraged me to play more, then try to firestart in cruisers which I dont normally. Was fun!

 

Now I have to get it on my other account* too (!)

 

*and by other I mean my partner's, and not me playing on his account at all.

There wasn't a single part of it that I didn't like. For a couple evenings I played just for the damage and didn't care if our team lost or won, it was most enjoyable and the intermediate rewards were the cherry on top. Emden may not be a Terminator but she's a legendary ship and I was eager to have her in my collection.

Enjoyed the missions. Mainly played with my new Blyskawica and my old Murmansk, oh and ground my Konigsburg as well. Looked up after getting the lil ship and discovered I had ground 5million silver and 12,000 free XP without noticing. More of the same please.

First 2 was easy, but setting fires seems to take a lot of time, lol

Setting fires is always the thing which I find comes easiest, my Phoenix did 12 fires in a single match but doing 300k damage and killing 10 ships took a few matches.

 

The event finally managed to get me out of the Wyoming though so something useful (as well as the Emden) has come out of it for me.  Really surprised how little lag the game had though while being played on mobile internet :/
