Boring thread Nothing to argue about!!! some indication that your ship is in a smoke screen would defiantly be nice whether you were the one that dropped it or just using it! be it dropped by friendly or enemy ship. 

 

Another option would be something like washed out colours or even Black or white while in the cloud

Isn't that the opposite to the awareness-skill (that every DD should have)?

If you are spotted, you are outside of the smoke-area, or someone is 2km (or about 7km for cruisers with sonar) close to you. So I don't really see the reason for this icon.

What would be better? let us see borders of the smoke-clouds more clearly, so we avoid sailing out of them.

How do you envision clearly visible smoke edges taking into account different graphics settings of different players? Dark pink glowing edge? Would make the game look like a MLP episode :hiding:

perma Coughing crew = you are still in smoke..  no? fine.

 

 

While i would prefer to see the border of the smokescreen on the water, i think the chances to get an icon implemented are way better.

It would be enough to create a kind of soft "smokering", so the fog at the borders would be thicker, maybe more white compared to the center (without changing the ship-visibility in the center of course)

I don't think glowing smoke would be necessary.

@ Myrmix!!! its to late if you are spotted the hole reason people want  it is so you know when you will stay hidden.

@MTM78 and idea i suggested is washed-out colours or Black and white when in smoke cloud! But as you said defiantly no border mark on the screen

You play at high/max settings right? Turn it down to minimum and look at the smoke. Do you think you can make 'smokering' edges? There are often times when you're in and out of bino view and you can't even see the smoke around you let alone the edges. The icon would work for everyone with all graphics settings, and is also much easier and therefore more likely to be implemented. 

 

edit: black and white in smoke might sound good until you play a gunboat DD which spends a lot of time in smoke clouds. If you want to play B/W  games well you would find some retro gaming system I think :)

the smoke circles can be displayed on the minimap, i think this would be enough.

 

I would like this, even more if there would be a counter showing when it will dissipate. But will be a lot off info in small screen area ( I already have minimap which shows detection range for ships and planes ). But not in place of the icon, as minimap is not where you're paying attention to usually while inside a smoke screen ( main part of screen as you're shooting/targeting enemy, we don't use smoke to hide right :D ).
