Is Murmansk too strong for its tier?

I dont have Murnmansk, but i played against it with various ships from my tier 5 and 6 collection and I seen its stats.  This is truly over powered ship for tier V, no wonder i see Murmansk so many in the battles these days. Strong range, amazingly strong citadel, strong AP damage and fast reload, also solid torps and high ship speed. I am rather new player and never bought any ship but i think this is true credit maker, maybe some people who own it can tell how they do with it.

It's like the omaha's C hull with better torps... I also don't get how you think it has "amazingly strong citadel". Omaha is one of the easiest ships to citadel in the game.

It is not overpowered but indeed very strong for a premium (to be honest World of Warships has quite a lot of excellent premium vessels - Murmansk, Tirpitz, Atago) and it does make a lot of credits. I like the best in my Murmansk the high HE fire chance and the excellent torpedos.

Murmansk is a fully upgraded Omaha with Socialist red paint, different torpedoes and a different plane. She is strong but also Omaha is since the guns(the main damage dealers) are exactly the same.

Many high tier players use the Murmansk to farm for gold. So most of the time its good players using it (I´m the exception! :D) which contributes a lot I think.

It is the same with omaha and lol i have never thought that anyone would ever call the Murmansks citadel "very strong".  Its really easy to citadel. I guess you are doing something wrong.

Also, like in WoT, I m afraid you will not see any bad Russian ship in this game, even if they did not really have a navy.

I think the reason why you see the Murmansk as often as you do is the fact that...

A. It has a reputation of being an excellent ship

B. It is a premium ship, meaning extra credits and captain training.

C. Of all the premium ships in the shop, the Murmansk can be purchased at an "affordable" price without a bundle. You can even use dubloons if you want to.

The combination of all these reasons make it so popular I think.

As for the quality of the ship, I think the Murmansk is pushing what would be acceptable in a premium ship. It is indeed an Omaha with a C hull, fitted with different, longer-ranged torpedoes, a spotter instead of a fighter plane and a significantly superior rudder shift time. I am told it also has ammunition with superior penetration.

Cheers, M

If played well any of the T5 Cruisers are dangerous ships, Furytaco can dish out nasty damage with the 203mm and has very capable torps, Omaha is just as capable as Murmansk and Konisburger has a lethal rate of fire. Played badly all of these ships are easy to citadel.

Why wouldn't you favor Murmansk when it'll play as well as any of these and make you a ton of silver?

Makes sense what you said. I am using Furutaka for farming, i cant complain much but thus i run into Murnmansk often. I check team results in the end of battle and i notice Murnmansk players almost always have top results among cruisers. I think i might buy this thing soon until i set up some things, dont want to use my salary bank card for online purchase. :)

The combination of all these reasons make it so popular I think.

Which also means not every Murmansk is driven by highly skilled skipper.

In last match had one keep going in straight line and instead of turning into torps he tried turning away from them giving me devastating strike without need for finishing him slowly with guns.

Which was friendly of him, First Blood, Confederate and High Caliber would have been little lonely without one Devastating Strike...

You are right but you can gain even more credits with murmansk. (premium ship)

I personally have better results with a Kongo.

Better range, better firepower, better survivability, mobility is decent enough. No torps, but who cares, you can score 10k citadel hits. at the torps' max range rather easily.

It's definitely a very strong ship, but I wouldn't call it overpowered since it's based on the Omaha C-Hull which is weaker than its B-Hull and I much prefer the fighter plane over the spotter plane.

I never bother utilizing the spotter plane because the Murmansk has an awful shell trajectory and travel time which makes hitting things quite hard at long ranges even without using one.

It's great for clubbing seals that like to sail in a straight line because of its high damage per minute, but when it comes to fighting good players that know how to dodge I would take the Furutaka over it any day.

Only time I ever used my spotter on murmansk is to hit CVs that dont move or move slowly or to hit BBs over islands.

That is certainly true, I have seen Murmansk captains do the silliest things. Sometimes that silly captain was me ;)

On the whole though, the Murmansk is an extremely competative ship. I wonder if the Marblehead is as competative as well.

Cheers, M

Marblehead is not as good. By the way, recently tried my Murmansk after having not played it for 2 months. Was so apalled by the damage that this thing deals now I sold it.

Let future players browse my statistics and wonder to whom i sold my soul to do as much average damage as I did.

The usual WG WoT tactic of ninja-nerfing old premiums before introducing new ones?

Only way you can call that a "ninja" nerf was if you take into consideration that a ninja can backstab you and cripple you for life.

HE damage and credit income for that ship were sliced in half.

Seeing as low caliber HE shells were reduced in effectiveness versus heavier armor you could say that the Murmansk got an indirect nerf, I mean how could it not.

It's still the most cost efficient premium credit grinder in the game, especially if you don't run a premium account.

There was no slicing in half of anything. You just remembered wrong or got worse.

Could be, but Im damn sure of my memories that this ship used to gain more credits than that. Could be an indirect result of its crapdamage, but it definetly does not earn as much as before.
