The past day or so I've had terrible lag with ping from 35 to 200-300 range and the game is unplayable. Vigin insist that the signal is ok and speedtest shows 54mps with ping at time of tests between 30 and 50, no other apps are running on pc to slow it down. I've just tried two other internet games that I play now and then and they have pings in the 40-60 range. Is anyone else having problems as it seems to be only this game with bad lag. It even took me ages to sign into this forum which is also a new problem. Is there such a thing as a ping monitor that checks only ping as speedtest just tests ping briefly and I want to see if Virgin are telling me the truth. I don't really understand all this tech stuff so any help or advice would be most welcome.

I'm also with Virgin in the UK. I have had occasional terrible lag with ping going up to 1000.

Same problem here. Been like it in the evening since last Monday 30Nov and getting worse. I'm with VM too. Interesting.

It's now unplayable.

Think WG have server / internet problems, but are not admitting to it. I believe that WoW is on EU2 for WoT [not sure].

Sounds more and more like VirginMedia and not WG [sorry WG]

Confusing as hell. Pings below suggest both could be to blame. see message from Phroco

Having run Pingplotter:

login.p1.worldoftanks.eu gives good results

login.p2.worldoftanks.eu has packet loss

How can you say that WG have problems? You are all on virgin, that is a good enough reason from my experience. I got rid of it and all was good....and still is.

If you haven't already done it, download pingplotter free edition

http://www.pingplotter.com/dl_pingplotter.html?Version=4.00.2

enter in the target location  >  login.worldofwarships.eu       and you will see where your problems are and at which stage your signal goes tits up.

At the moment i am getting a bit of packet loss on the second hop (not much) and that's before it even gets to London!!!

Yup with VM and been getting horrid packet loss. Today has been the worst spiking ovrr 1k. Have reset my modem so many times now.

No idea what the issue is but never had problems like this before. And it only seems to be in WoWs although I maybe wrong.

Do the above, you will be able to see where the problem starts.

There seems to be a pattern developing. :)

Writing "virgin media ping" to Google gives curious suggestions... and results for suggested searches.

I posted about this last week I think on another thread (on the old forum). This is a graph of my ping times to WG over the last couple of days. As you can see, ping times to WG servers go horrible in the evenings whereas the BBC and Google DNS are fine. I'm also on on Virgin Media but previously when I have tracerouted to the WG server, the problem definitely lies with WG, it's just that VM routes slightly differently to other ISPs and seems to arrive on a WG gateway that has network issues.

Anytime I have issues with a WG game it's the Telia hops to blame.

Just used pingplotter and the telia hops were getting 60% packet loss spikes.

Just to follow-up, here are the traceroutes from home and another server I have.

Home (via VM)

 7  * * *
 8  * * *
 9  teln-ic-2-ae1-0.network.virginmedia.net (212.250.14.146)  20.714 ms  20.674 ms  20.710 ms
10  ve1011.r1.lon1.uk.atrato.net (80.94.66.28)  20.729 ms  20.718 ms  20.699 ms

18  ed-sl-c49.worldoftanks.eu (92.223.24.49)  109.921 ms !X * *

and from the other server

 4  * * *
 5  linx2.ixreach.com (195.66.236.217)  0.937 ms  1.169 ms  1.064 ms
 6  r1.tc2.ams.ixreach.com (91.196.184.138)  8.822 ms  8.529 ms  8.459 ms

 9  ed-sl-c49.worldoftanks.eu (92.223.24.49)  14.481 ms !X  14.462 ms !X  14.250 ms !X

Apart from the fact that VM seem to have an insane number of hops, the actual lag doesn't occur until the WG server just before the game server, which coming from VM is ed-n56128-fe-4-vl244.wargaming.net (92.223.112.190). From the other server the entry point is ed-n56128-fe-3-vl241.wargaming.net (92.223.112.165) which doesn't appear to suffer from the problem.

Also, the issue isn't just long ping times, but actual packet loss at peak times. I have the graphs for that if anyone is interested :)

I would also add that all this packet loss has only started happening recently.

I am sure it was after a patch or update.

Never had any lag problems before that and still stream films etc with no issues.

Hope a solution is found soon as the stutter makes play a pain and starts giving me headaches.

Just been onto VM website and many people have complained about speed drops and outages, no official response from them yet but the gossip has it that our new upgrade to 100 mbs that is being carried out all over the place may have something to do with it. Strange that for me it only effects WoWS and no one else at the moment. Virgin say they will email me within 48 hrs.

I also have this problem certainly yesterday and today and I'm on Virgin Media in the UK too.  It's not affecting any of my other games as of yet either.  Maybe I should contact Virgin Media too.  @Antony1953 Did you submit something on their forum or email them?  I'm not sure how to describe the problem to them as it's only World of Warships it's affecting. Last time I rang Virgin Media a few years ago the guy didn't understand what a ping was! Hope they fix it soon cause I just bought Premium.

I rang 150  and got a manager from " far off lands" to ask Virgin tech support to email me, he said it would be within 48 hrs, at least I think that's what he said. Nice man. Anyway if you go onto Virgin Media Community then Broadband  then Gaming you'll see a lot of people having lots of problems with ping rates and speed and not just with WoWS.
